We’re here for two nights to explore Otaru! We got the view of Otaru canal - it was very beautiful view ever. Location was great! Convenience store : only 1 min walking distance / around the hotel so many restaurants Restaurant of the hotel itself was very nice both Breakfast buffet and also very fine dinner. Reception was very helpful and very fast action while during the night we heard sth strange! The receptionist came to the room very quickly. Can’t wait for the covid19 to be gone ... then we could go back again

Thank you for staying at our hotel this time. I think I'm so happy to get complimented reviews from you. Currently, Otaru has become a very quiet street under the influence of COVID-19. When COVID-19 is over, please visit Otaru again and stay at our hotel. We wish you always healthy. Hotel Sonia Otaru Kim

Great location - 10 min walk from JR station and opposite the canal. Room was small but clean and comfortable with canal view. Restaurant was good but needed to order by 9pm. Decent onsen also has view of canal.

The hotel was across the street from the canal...you could see the lighted candles in and along the canal for the winter light festival from the hotel. It was also a short walk to Sacaimachi shopping street and to the Otaru train station. The room was large, unusual for Japan. The door to the room was short...had to be careful not to bump my head going in. The bathroom was a bit off. It was clean but the sink and mirror were set low...not optimal for taller western guests. The price is reasonable and I would definitely stay there again.

Room is small ( common for Japanese standard) , comfortable, clean and has a little European vibe. We had lunch at their restaurant which serves mostly Japanese food. It was really good and price is very affordable. Otaru canal is just 1 minute walk from the hotel! It has a public bath area but too bad we didn’t manage to use it. Will be back for sure!!!

The hotel has a spacious lobby with European decor and furniture including a fake fire place, but the room is very dated (we probably got the room in the old wing) with a very old chest of drawers cupboard. The pillows are also very small and hard, not comfortable at all to sleep on. The saving grace is we have booked a canal view room which overlooks the beautiful canal in snowy winter. The heating in the room is also a welcome refuge from the harsh cold winter air outside. This hotel has an in-house onsen and charges 150 yen per adult regardless whether you use the onsen or not. The price is very reasonable and it's really a pleasure soaking in the heated large onsen pool after a day's out in the freezing cold winter. Even though the hotel is walking distance to the Otaru JR station, it's still a good 15-20 minutes walk and it is not easy having to lug luggage on the slippery icy floor. But the famous Otaru Canal and some nearby eateries are a stone's throw away. Also be prepared that the hotel staff can't really converse well in English so was hard to communicate our needs. They also go by the book and do not allow us to check in earlier even though we arrived early in the morning from the airport and were having jet lag.

About 10mins walk from JR Otaru Station, dragging luggages on uneven walk paths. Booked twin-bedded, canal facing room B with Agoda. Room is spacious for 2 but view of canal is blocked by balcony which is not accessible. DHC skincare packs(very good) can be collected at lobby. Shampoo/conditioner/bath soap is Pola(personally dislike). Folding desk mirror and hair-dryer in room. Windows can be open. Room is furnished with dark furniture and fitted with yellow lightings which make it very dim even with all lights on. Must be very careful when you step out of toilet area because the curb is very high. Close to shopping street and restaurants we wanted to visit. Overall a comfortable stay.

Located right next to the canal and a 10 minute walk from the JR Otaru station, you couldn’t ask for a better location. The hotel is a bit old and the rooms are small, but overall still comfortable. The bathhouse facility is really nice and great to use.

Stayed here for one night. We have 2A and 2C staying in the room, the bed was like a Super single bed, good for 1A and 1C. Very new and clean room. Their breakfast was good! Parking was right Infront of the hotel cafe next door, probably about 5 -10 cars only. However, pls note there is some extra charges for 1. parking fee , I.e 1200yen per night and 2. 300 yen per person (if I rmbr correctly) for public bath (regardless if you use it or not), hence, the room price is more than what you paid initially.

Walking distance to many famous restaurants and places: Naruto Honten, famous fried chicken place; Otaru Denuki-koji with various restaurants and snacks; Ippo Ramen; Otaru Dining No name with special curry dishes; Sankaku Market with yummy seafood dishes; and the Canal Cruise. The staffs were very friendly. Only problem in Otaru, all stores closed like 5pm. Therefore, you should plan all your itineraries early in the day. Luckily, this hotel has hot springs with a great in house restaurant. They have great tasting menus. I prefer spent little longer here for future reference. They also have some parking spaces at the back of the hotel. Yen 1,800 from check in to check out. Yen 600 for off check in time, which I think it's great. It's easy to find public parking every where. However, time parked costed too. Therefore, it's good to get a parking spot from hotel and just drive in and out.

Thank you for staying at our hotel this time. I think your good reviews will be helpful before other guests book our hotel. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to Otaru Station and major sightseeing spots. The parking lot is smaller than the rooms, so it is a first-come, first-served basis and is charged. We look forward to seeing you again next time. Thank you. Hotel Sonia Otaru Kim

Only stayed there 2 nights. Clean and cozy. Most importantly very bright when lights were on in the room. (I personally do not prefer the dim setting of most hotel rooms.) You can do onsen as well. Near some eateries. The room I stayed faces the canal. Good.
