Asunaro Inn is a traditional style building made of 200-year-old materials brought from the historic Echigo area of Niigata Prefecture. I welcome foreign tourists to my inn with our warm hospitality and More homely atmosphere, and I would like them to learn about Japanese traditions, culture, and cuisine. Whenever you come to Takayama, please consider Asunaro Inn as your premier choice. Thank you very much. The building where the lobby is used to be an old landlord's house in the village on the mountain of Niigata prefecture and is built with thick Keyaki wood. This house was built without nails to withstand the high humidity and 4-5 meters of snow the area receives. Our lobby has a great reputation because it displays the consistency, simplicity, and serenity of the Japanese architecture style. We will preserve this cultural site. We are sure that all our guests will be pleased with the beauty of the old Japanese architecture. We promise you will feel relaxed and at home. Less

Highly recommend Ryokan Asunaro

I highly recommend Ryokan Asunaro.
1. Great location
About 10 minutes walk from the Takayama JR Station. Historical sites, such as Old Town, are within a pleasant walk.
2. Good size room and well equipped.

I am staying during the Autumn Festival (Matsuri) in October and I am interested in the breakfast and dinner option, can you tell me how much it costs and how long the dinner goes for? I am hoping to be able to venture out to see the evening festival after dinner.
Dinner lasted about 1 hour. All the food were on the table. Just need to start the fire and cook. Most of the items are ready to eat immediately while waiting for the soupy items and raw beef to be cook. Dinner came with hotel package.

I am a woman with tattoos that are too large to cover. I wish to be respectful. Would I be permitted to use the public baths?
Hello! I wanted to update this thread and mention that I got an official response from Ryokan Asunaro. They said it is not a problem for foreigners. They welcome foreigners with tattoos. :)

"Room 201 (delux)"
"We used both the onsen and the private bath, and we didn't miss having a private in-room shower at all."
"All should be ok. This Ryokan is at a reasonably quiet area of town."
"We had a car park view but just closed the blinds!"
"If you prefer a shower in your room, book early - but don't let it be a knock-out factor (not that inconvenient really)."
