The Atlas Donezk is still the most interesting hotel in town, to understand the current conflict, and to spend time with interesting local people. However the hotel starts to feel a bit worn down. The Terrace Bar remains the place to be, with excellent food. Relatively many of the staff speak English.

We have been visiting Donetsk regularly over the past 8 years working on environmental projects in the region. Over the past two years have been staying in hotels rather than project flats so have got to know a number of hotels in Donetsk.

We've stayed in the Atlas about three times now and in our opinion it is the best reasonably priced hotel in Donetsk. It is modern with good, spacious rooms quite nicely, if basically, furnished, with a number of different grades of room. Even the basic rooms are very pleasant with comfortable beds, bath/shower.

The hotel is nicely situated very near the Kalmius river, and is about 20 - 25 minutes - mostly uphill! - walk from the centre (Lenin Square), so while not absolutely central, not far either, with the benefit of being in quite a peaceful area.

The buffet breakfast is exceptionally good compared with other experiences in Ukraine, with a very wide choice of cooked food, cereals, fruit salad, fresh fruit, juice, tea and coffee, served in a very relaxing setting. In our experience staff are very friendly and mostly speak at least some English. The bar is very nice also with very wide range of quality drinks, juices, teas and coffee.

Can definitely recommend this hotel - we perhaps have advantage of local colleagues booking rooms and confirming details in advance (noting the problem experienced by previous reviewer!), but would guess it should be possible to avoid the problemes/misunderstandings they experienced.

The hotel is very comfortable as well the staff. The bar is running out of drinks and that is very strange. My friends had to wait for 40 minutes and the cocktail was not good.
Apart from that, the room is nice, the wifi works very well, the parking area is ok and we didn't have problems with taxis.

Dear Guest, We are grateful to you for taking the time in writing your constructive feedback and for staying at Ramada Donetsk hotel. Pleased that you loved the rooms, parking, wifi and good service from the staff. Accept our apologies for the cocktail offering is not according to your liking. I would like to assure you that delay in delivering food and drinks is not our standard and our Food & Beverage Manager is checking why this could happen to avoid such poor situations in future. Once again, thank you very much for your review and we hope to welcome you back in the not so distant future. Best regards Kateryna Prokhorova General Manager Ramada Donetsk hotel

Good hotel, refurbished 2004, clean, tidy, good housekeeping. Lot of European, Arabian and Asian business users. Would rate as good 3 star
hotel.

Rooms used were refurbished to the usual standard i.e. beige walls, white ceilings, picture over bed, TV (at least one Italian, Turkish, German and English language programme), shower in bath, tiled bathroom etc. Good housekeeping, money left on table as a test was not touched. Inadequate number of coat hangers, but housekeeping supplied extra within minutes of asking. 220 volt European plugs/
sockets.

Reception prompt, polite, courteous and friendly. English speaking. Arranged everything we requested. Security gaurded lifts at all times. Invoice is only available in Russian.

Adequate breakfast buffet, usual warm food, cold meat and cheese, cereals, fresh fruit salad, milk, joghurt, croissants, bread, jams etc. Hot tea and coffee. Restricted number of tables, so sometimes full.

Expedia reservation stated room price was without breakfast, but hotel reception advised all room prices included breakfast. Nice surprise.

Double room same price as single room (as in the US, but not in Europe) so excellent value for two people.

Front rooms overlook lake, rear rooms overlook ancient apartment blocks.

Hotel bar used more by young locals than hotel geusts. Plays very loud music, but has no dance floor. Offers usual snacks, cocktails etc.

No Internet facility ("Business Centre" has an Internet computer, but no Messenger) and is expensive. Internet Cafe 5 minutes up the hill and very cheap. Even better Internet Cafe in the town center.

Currency exchange only available between 19:00 and 20:00 hours, but local bank only two doors away.

Uphill walk to town center, but taxi only costs approx. Euro 1,50 (1 GBP, 1.30 USD). The bus is even cheaper and stops outside the hotel.

Town has much to offer. Very good Opera and ballet. Best seats only cost 7,- Euros, unbelievable value for money. Lots of good restaurants including fish restaurant overlooking the lake near the hotel.

This hotel used to better but now first thing that greets upon arrival is people with weapons sitting around the lobby. Apart from that, unstable, slow internet in the rooms and terrible Soviet-style service. Feels like I'm back in 1981 when nobody cared about anything. Employees of this hotel made me wash a towel that they claimed was spoiled after I wiped some mud from my clothes with it (Donetsk is a very muddy town). I stay in hotels an average 300 days per year and have never been addressed like that. Pretty amazing. The towel washed great and is whiter than it had been. But they are still trying to claim "the damage"! This place is managed by lunatics. Stay away at all costs. There are much better hotels around here.

Dear Mr Galustov, After our long correspondence with you by letters and email, here on Tripadvisor.com I just want to thank you for the fact that you have expressed your opinion about the hotel and the policy of levying fees for property damage in particular. Unfortunately, our views in this question are not the same. In spite of this, I hope to welcome you at the hotel Ramada Donetsk again. Best regards, Eugenia Abakumova

My wife and I checked in here for a two nights and were pleasantly surprised during our stay here by the extremely clean and modern room and one of the best beds either of us had slept in. Amazing! We had a wonderful sound rest, The rooms are small however nicely appointed and modern. Very clean with terrific internet which is often a problem in Ukraine where ever you stay.

We had a terrific breakfast at the Terrace restaurant in the morning. We tried to have a drink the night before however the cigarette and cigar smoke was overwhelming as it appears to be a meeting place after work for the local in crowd.

The fine dining restaurant on the second level is what set this wonderful hotel apart from others we have stayed in while in Dontesk. The menu and selection of international cuisines is extensively inviting not to mention the head Chef and his staff's ability to prepare these delectable dishes. We had dinner here two nights in row and would say it is on par with the Donbass's two restaurants because of the great service , the menu's variety of faire, along with quality presentation and great execution.

The other amenities of the hotel are equally excellent which include sporting a tremendous gym for guest and locals.

This hotel delivers a great experience and tremendous value. We look forward to staying here again and highly recommend it for business travellers or while on vacation.

My wife and I stayed here for a couple of nights at Euro 2012. The hotel and staff are simply fantastic. It was a great place to stay and the staff were exceptional. We ate in the hotel and the standard of food and service was exemplary. We were in Donetst for Euro 2012. The hotel is a 20 minute stroll from the stadiium. If you are visiting Donetsk you must stay here. You will not be dissapointed. The hotel is 10 minutes from the city centre and Artema Street. If you are here for any football game give yourself a treat and stay at this hotel.

Very nice stay at the Ramada, it was either built or renovated last year for the euros so is very modern. Staff are excellent and english is superb. Restaurant and bar very goood too.

On arrival I was asked if I was a wyndham rewards programme member, and as I was I got a small goodie bag with water, chocolate and some other bits.

Very professional and nice hotel. Rooms very nicely decorated and the bed was very comfy

Good 1 night stop for me
