This will be a bit of a waffling review but I remember looking at other reviews before I went so will hopefully fill in the gaps of things I was uncertain about before we went!
We've been lucky enough to have visited Barut Lara twice before, Barut Kemer once, Sensatori Fethiye once in 2020 (which is directly next door to The Residence) and also Nana Golden Beach in Crete last year so have had a proper go at the all inclusive experience! The Residence is simply the best.
It is a little unfair to compare them all with The Residence as in the past we've had our children with us too but the whole experience is just better.
We booked with relatively short notice 2 months before we went for a 5 night stay. Literally the only rooms available when we booked were the Penthouse Suites so that's what we did.
Due to arriving around 01:30 a.m. we booked a transfer through the excellent DM transfers to get there quicker than the usual coach transfer and arrived in resort just after 02:00 a.m. As soon as we arrived in the lobby we were offered a glass of champagne and a silver tray of chocolates. We were escorted to the room by an excellent guy (sorry couldn't see your name badge at the time!) and the case was brought up too. The room itself was exceptional. There was a jacuzzi bath in the centre of the room and another one on the very private balcony outside. The room had twin sinks, a fixed shower with a handheld option for hair washing and pretty much everything you could need even including hair straighteners, hair dryer and an iron attached to the ironing board! Not that I used it.....! Bed was massive (I'm too tall and could still get lost on it), very comfortable and with a couple of different pillow options. UK plug sockets were right next to the beds as well as USB ports too. Lighting was all controlled by smart pads by the door and also by the beds. The minibar was exceptionally well stocked. Fanta, bottles of still water, cans of Coke, Schweppes Tonic water, juices, milk, chilled bottle of wine and bottles of Efes & Miller beer. Above the fridge were a bottle of red wine and 0.35 litre bottles of Smirnoff Vodka, Johnnie Walker whiskey and Gordon's Gin! Proper glasses for all were on a tray too and you can get ice from ice machines if required as well. Everything above is restocked daily without fail. There is also a snack draw with Doritos, pretzel sticks, biscuits and chewing gum which is restocked daily too.
We could have headed to the 24 hour lobby bar or the 24 hour restaurant for something to eat and drink but instead after a brief sleep we headed to breakfast at the Repertory. This is where things started to elevate above previous hotels. You get escorted to a table (inside or outside is your choice) and are given an excellent a la carte menu. Tea, coffee and orange juice are provided immediately. Anything you wish to be cooked from the menu is ordered and brought to your table. Over our stay we tried the French Toast, various large croissants stuffed with various goodies, pancakes and waffles. There were a lot of other options too (we're both vegetarian and never felt we didn't have choice) including omelettes etc. There is also a buffet section at breakfast for things like pain au chocolat, grilled sausages, cheese and fruit etc. You won't go hungry here...!! The a la carte style for most of it though gave it a much more relaxed vibe than guests getting constantly up and down like yoyos for the buffet.
After breakfast we went poolside. This is where one of the biggest surprises happened - sunbeds! Without fail there were sunbeds still available at any time of day. Whether it is the number of beds available, the lack of families as it is adults only, a lot of guests using the beds by their swim-up rooms/the beach/the shady garden areas or other reasons unknown it's refreshing to not see the usual madness! My wife is an early riser so was normally up at 06:15 a.m. to grab an iced coffee and get a couple of hours quiet reading in anyway but there's no need to for sunbed reserving! Most days we had a couple right next to the Cuphea bar. Easy access to the pool, bar and beach but still surprisingly quiet. During the day it felt so relaxed and felt it was about 25% capacity even though it clearly wasn't! The Cuphea bar was our port of call for drinks and I literally never had to wait to be served there. I discreetly went through the cocktail menu and in the sun would recommend the Aegean Sunset and even more so the Cherry Moscow Mule. Obviously apart from the signature menu you can ask for anything else too.
The pool itself is another asset - it meanders around almost like a linked river rather than the usual pool surrounded by lots of loungers crammed in. I can't swim but my wife enjoyed buzzing about! In between the beds there are also drink coolers with soft drinks and beers stacked with ice. Another nice touch.
First night we had a high quality cocktail upstairs at the Balkon restaurant before dinner downstairs in The Repertory. The options on the menu change each night and if needed there is also a separate vegetarian/vegan menu that can be asked for. In addition the "main menu" can be found on a QR code so if nothing appeals that is listed on a particular night there is always other options too.
To be honest I'm boring myself a bit now so will wrap up the last couple of bits! As The Residence is next door to The Sensatori you can head there for anything you want (obviously not vice versa) bar or food wise. We went to the Sunset bar for lunch one day for quesadillas for example. We also went to the Neomans Lounge bar before dinner one night but became a bit Residence biased after!
The beach is a very short walk away and again loungers were plentiful here too.
If required a couple of minutes walk from the hotel there is a supermarket and a couple of clothing shops with the latest in erm, "designer but perhaps not actual designer" clothing. Worth a haggle anyway!
The lobby lounge is exceptional. Beautifully laid out and quite often a port of call in the afternoon after lunch for a coffee, dessert or ice cream. A special mention to the chocolate section too. The salted caramel truffles were probably the best chocolates I've ever tasted. I've tried many.... ;-) I often went here for a quiet drink as my wife got ready and we both normally returned for a cocktail or 2 after dinner too.
One other small thing to mention is when you get a drink with a mixer you get given the bottle of tonic water, can of Coke etc. to go with it. Silly thing but great as you can choose the strength of your drink depending how you like it.
The cleanliness, quiet relaxed vibe, quality of food, quality of staff and massively high standard of room meant our stay could hardly have been better.
The only possible improvements would possibly be to have a couple of more toilets near the pool area and a very small thing of having forks as well as spoons available at the breakfast buffet section to make it easier to eat melon! :-D
I wouldn't hesitate to return to here again and we are already calculating how we can!
Finally a big shout out to the staff, I'm more than likely to get their names wrong but please say special thanks to Ozlem for her brilliant friendly service at breakfast and lunch, Zeki in the Repertory at dinner, Orun/Olun and Zeynep at the Cuphea bar during the day and all the brilliant staff at the lobby bar too.
The beach is definitely not a beach lovers paradise, more a beach lovers nightmare with corse sand and large pebbles bordering stone’s.
The main lounge bar is lovely with fantastic friendly staff who all wear face and nose coverings all the time, there are signs on entry asking for guests to wear them when entering, the only person who never wears one is the manger who seems to set a very poor standard, I’ve never once seen her with a face covering on .
The restaurants are very good with great food and staff and are very COVID safe with your temperature taken on entrance and plastic gloves, face coverings as well hand gel all provided. Most meals are waiter service including breakfast . if you go up to the buffet part you have to wear gloves and face coverings
The rooms are very large with a large television, king size bed , whirlpool bath in the room and a separated large shower. These rooms are well stocked with all drinks and are replaced daily. However we did have to bring to the hotels attention that the cleaning was not what I thought adequate .
I would like to say that all the staff are very friendly even the ground staff and gardeners who do an amazing job to make it look fantastic.
Entertainment is low key but you do have the use of the sister hotel next door.
Watch this space as I’m still here at the hotel for one more week so will report on any changes.
I agree 100% with all the reviews regarding hygiene/cleanliness/food/meticulous attention to detail design/hospitality of staff who have a genuine warmth and desire to make guests happy.
We had a swim up room which was amazing. Very luxurious & mega high tech.
The only gripe we have is the fact that as we are definitely beach bums and prefer the beach to a pool we couldn’t have been more disappointed/gutted with the beach. The pictures give the impression it is a lovely sandy beach which sadly it isn’t. It has a small area of sand with sun beds and cabanas (extra cost) however it is a pebble beach which is very difficult to walk on and especially going in and out of the sea - would Recommend wearing your sliders. The water is dark & murky you cannot see what you are walking on or see beneath you when you are in it. Not at all the crystal blue/ green waters portrayed or expected.
Also we are shocked no one has mentioned the amount of locals who descend in droves to the beach everyday more so Friday to Sunday for the whole day. Whilst most head away from the initial hotel area some groups make fires to cook which are overwhelming and the smoke is very suffocating. They sit in the forest area at the back of the sunbeds. Listening to screaming children all day can be really annoying when you have paid to stay at an adults only resort expecting a more tranquilI atmosphere. It’s as though the hotel finds them invisible. The beach is very long so surely the guest area could be more segregated. It is definitely NOT a private beach! Some days it was like a moped fest! Very Noisy!
Sadly this put a dampener on our overall experience which is a shame as the hotel is faultless.
I also want to echo the comments regarding the pathetic British who can’t help themselves getting up at daft o’clock in the morning scurrying down to reserve what they believe is THEIR sunbeds! OMG! You need to get a grip! Really embarrassing lowering the standards to a cheap tacky 3* trait instead of a classy 5*. There is absolutely no need to do this as there are enough beds but sadly the sheep syndrome kicks in and others feel they need to follow suit. Seriously got no etiquette!!!
However If you are a Pool lover and want pure luxury and pampering then I can’t recommend The Residence highly enough! Definitely got the WOW factor!
Just not a positive beach experience.
Thank you to all the staff for the wonderful community spirit and positive vibe you create every day.
Asly the GM is an exceptional manager who seems to really care about her staff and guests and always gives her very special personal touch.
The rooms are lovely, modern and clean, mini bar plentiful but not replenished every day. 2 towel changes per day.
We had a ice machine directly outside of our door which was very noisy and kept us awake through the night.
Lovely large pool, not enough towel baskets for used towels so guests just leave them on the beds. My husband was advised by the Tui Rep to remove them himself if we required a bed. I find this unacceptable especially in the current covid situation.
Pool boys place towels on the beds first thing in the morning resulting in guest thinking the beds are reserved by other guests. This seems a strange thing to do when the pool towels are provided in a bag to prevent the spread of covid 19 so either you have to use it or remove it.
The food is another story from wrong orders, cold, undercooked meals and tasteless. On one occasion there was black grease on the base of my husbands pizza which was returned and the received another pizza which was not cooked thoroughly. The best one was the chef throwing my salad and smashing the bowl as it was sent back twice due to being the wrong order being submitted by the waiter and also being served mouldy bread. The quality of the food was certainly not of a 5 star standard. The waiter in the main restaurant would just wonder around the tables not knowing what to do and scratching his head in confusion and then go on to handle and serve other guests meals without washing his hands. It was a shame that a few members of staff let the others down with their bad service.
The only good meal of the day was the breakfast and some commendable staff always on hand.
Overall the service was hit and miss sometimes you would be served straight away and possibly get the correct order other times you could order and not receive it and occasionally the whole meal experience would go without any issues.
The tree area between the beach and grass area of the hotel is used by the locals adults/children and dogs. They have fires going throughout the day which means the amount of smoke is unbearable at times. Also the children run to and from the tree area to the sea (not what you want from a adult only holiday). On one occasion we saw a dog wondering around the sunbed/ grass area of the hotel urinating. There were security guards around this area but unable to move them on as it is not a private beach.
Many guests had the same issues as us and all found the Tui Rep useless and just tried to fob them off with meals in the a la carte restaurants as a compromise which some are free to use anyway.
We paid a lot of money for this holiday as many others did we certainly did not receive a 5 star+ quality and service experience.
The Hotel and our rooms are beautifully laid out. Pool area and grounds are immaculate. The staff are super friendly, courteous and attentive without being overbearing. We have a beautiful swim up room, sun most of the day shade in the afternoon. Plenty of sun & water beds available around the pool if we wanted more time in the sun., no need to leave towels out. The in room fridge and other room amenities are replenished daily we haven’t wanted/needed or had to ask for anything extra.
The meals we have had have all been lovely. We booked a couple of al la carte meals but food in the Reporty & CUPHEA has been equally amazing and definitely on a par. Masks & gloves are required to serve yourself at the breakfast buffet, absolutely no issues with this at all. Hubby uses gym/ sauna & steam room & said he can’t praIse staff & facilities there enough.
Attention to cleanliness & hygiene within the resort is second to none. As frontline NHS staff we have absolutely no concerns/qualms what so ever about this hotel and our stay here
As we said in the title this hotel is absolutely amazing and exactly the holiday we needed and it has exceeded all our expectations. All the staff we have dealt with are a credit to TUI/BARUT.
Thanks for a fantastic holiday.
We highly recommend this hotel⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Good
Check-in was easy and covid measures were explained clearly. Cleaning etc was constant and quite honestly c-19 did not have a major impact.
Rooms are very spacious and are equipped with everything you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Huge bed, lovely shower, safe, ironing board, well stocked minibar and a lovely balcony.
The pool is huge although it can be difficult obtaining a lounger. The beach area is clean and the sea is calm and shallow. Perfect for swimming.
The main restaurant is buffet for breakfast then switches to a la carte for evenings. There is also a theme for dinner each day. We did find the menu somewhat limited but there is 24 hour service so you won't go hungry.
You can use restaurants in Sensatori next door and I would especially recommend Tao and Basilico for lunch. All menus are via a QR code so unless you have a very good memory, take your phone everywhere!
Entertainment is fairly low key and most of the action takes place next door. There's a main theatre and a stage near the beach showing live bands. Special mention to Mucahit Aktas who is one of the hardest working waiters I've ever seen.
The Bad
The food really doesn't justify a 5 star rating. We had some lovely meals but too many were average/poor.
Service is mixed. Good in the lounge, poor in the main restaurant. Even after a week, sitting in the same area, we struggled to get the breakfast drinks as ordered.
The Ugly
Culphia restaurant in the evening offers a lovely location, great food and good service. Contrast this with daytime. A waiter who is only interested in filling his cutlery stand. Food is often cold. We saw others returning cold items and it happened to us twice. On the second occasion my partner was quite ill.
The lovely relaxed lounge offers 24 hour service. Unfortunately there were a few occasions when people seemed to think they needed to drink for the same period. The stereo typical drunken Brit is alive and well unfortunately. Embarrassing.
Overall this is a pleasant relaxing resort which let's itself down in a few key areas. Definitely not the best Sensatori out there.
This has to be one of THE BEST all inclusive/adults only hotels around and is certainly the first hotel that we have stayed in over the years that we are already organising our next stay in.
From start to finish the experience has been outstanding. Consistently friendly and helpful staff (from reception, housekeeping, restaurant teams and bar crew)
The room is delightful and is large, modern and comfortable. Room serviced every day with the ample mini bar and snacks being filled every day.
The restaurants offer a great variety of food that is well cooked, hot and tasty. There is a great selection to chose from.
Fantastic selection of drinks and cocktails and I was delighted to have some of my favourites made to order that weren’t on the menu.
Our room was a swim up room and occupied an enviable location where we enjoyed sunshine throughout the day.
Walking around in the day time we could appreciate the issues discussed about sun lounger availability.
Whilst here we have heard no negative comments from other guests regarding any aspect of the hotels performance.
Kerry the Tui rep is a delight and was exceptionally friendly, helpful and welcoming. Kerry gave us the low down on what to do in Fethiye as well as some handy hints on where to get a bargain. Kerry is a credit to Tui as are all the individual team members that work at The Residence, they deserve a massive amount of praise for providing an excellent level of hospitality, especially during this pandemic which must place an incredible strain an the team whilst they do a great job in keeping us lucky holiday makers safe.
The hotel is immaculate, the pools and pool areas pristine. We decided that as Barut kept their pools open for us we wouldn’t have 4 kids jumping and playing in pools in The Residence! So did the noble thing and still used their pools :)
Food is second to none! Absolutely delicious. Restaurant is open 24 hours a day, with a vast menu of choice. There are also themed nights where additional menus are available. Our children are very well behaved thankfully and so were other children we saw using the restaurant so I’m sure the Residence guests didn’t mind. We were all made to feel very welcome by the staff. We will 100% return to this hotel in the future as a couple without the kids. Thank you so much for welcoming and serving us in your beautiful hotel. Mr & Mrs Bangs - the last brits standing! :)
The rooms are amazing, we didnt have a swim up, just a basic but it was pure luxury. The bed was fantastic, it had a freestanding whirlpool bath, gorgeous shower, double sinks, fully stocked free minibar with additional bottles of free spirits, loads of storage space and we really couldnt fault it. Little touches such as USB chargers in the sockets next to the bed and smart switches made it even better.
The service was great everywhere, the food was as good as any expensive restaurant in all of the restaurants and the amount of snacks and alcohol on offer left nothing wanting. You could eat and drink top quality 24 hours a day if you wanted.
The hotel is about 3 miles outside Calis so we hired an electric scooter for the week which took us about 20 minutes to get there and back although a taxi only costs £5 each way.
The gym was fully fitted and state of the art if you're into working out, the Cabana's were the best we've ever used but at £50 for the day a bit expensive as was the paid for restaurant at £25 each and the food wasnt much better than the A La Carte free restaurants.
Our only gripes about the hotel which are pretty insignificant is the lack of toilets around the grounds and pools, the Wifi was quite temperamental on my phone but fine on my girlfriends phone and unfortunately the menu's could only be accessed on a phone.
