It’s a nice and clean place. Kind people from the hostel who help you, even in the evening with arranging transport to restaurants in Arusha. Nice roof top bar. Relax options at the pool. I would recommend.

I stayed at this hostel for 4 nights, two before climbing Kili and two after. The hostel is an excellent value, but had a number of power outages, and had out-of-date pricing information on its website. Good stuff: -The location felt very secure -the building has plenty of room and spots to relax - the price is excellent - free, though limited, breakfast - cheap, though limited dinners - onsite spa with massages (though limited hours) - rooftop bar - pool - hammocks Less than ideal stuff: - no air conditioning - confusing building layout (problematic when tired/jet lagged) - the area around the hostel is pretty noisy and keeping the windows open to cool the rooms can make it difficult to sleep at night if you are a light sleeper (bring ear plugs) -WiFi does not reach all rooms - frequent power outages - pricing information on website is not kept up to date. This is problematic since a QR code on the back of every room door sends you to that website. The first two nights I stayed were pretty smooth. The entrance is secure with large metal gates keeping everything out. Much of the second day the hostel was without power. They had a generator going but the power to the upper floors was turned off. To their credit, they did turn the power back on to my floor when I asked since I needed to charge my phone and send some messages. When I returned from my successful Kili ascent with the excellent guide company, Climbing Kilimanjaro, things did not go quite as well. The room they put me in was outside of the Wifi range. When I asked about it they recommend I go to one of the common areas to use the WiFi. In fairness, the website only states that they have free WiFi, not that there is WiFi in every room. However, when recuperating from my Kili hike I wanted to be in my room and have internet access. When I returned from a safari the next day I found the hall with my room to be without power. I was told it would be fixed soon. Once it got dark and I could no longer see in my room I went searching for a host to assist me but was unable to find one. I messaged the hostel manager requesting another room with power and within and acceptable amount of time the host came and offered me a different room (the one I had stayed in previously). This solved both the power problem and the WiFi problem as the previous room was close to a router. I asked about possibly doing a tour of Moshi and a waterfall for my last day. The price for this on the website is given per person, but what it doesn't mention is that a minimum of two people are required or the price nearly doubles. Since the trip was too expensive I said I would just take a transfer to the airport. This turned out to be $10 more than the website states. While I did have to check out by the posted check out time (10:00am) my last day, they were happy to let me hang out in a common area until my airport transfer at 5PM. The spa was open that day too and I got a great massage there while I waited.

I had a great stay at Nyumbani hostel prior to a Kilimanjaro climb. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the food was delicious and the hostel itself is really nice with comfy beds, lots of areas to chill out in and a nice pool area. It also felt very safe. The hostel organised a couple of day trips for me including a safari day which was awesome. I would definitely recommend to others!

Stayed for 3 nights as a solo traveller in a private double room (that had access to a balcony) after climbing the mountain. Nyumbani ("home" in Swahili) was an excellent option instead of the insanely expensive lodges my climbing buddies chose. It is a lovely, spacious house with a pool, an on-site spa (Elizabeth is amazing - I had a facial, foot massage and full body massage there!). The owners and manager (Tizia & Glory) were very helpful over email and whatsapp before and during the trip. All staff on site are friendly and helpful. The rooftop terrace with a bar (fully stocked), pool table, couches, games is a great place to hang. The room is definitely simple, but clean and comfortable. Remember water in Tanzania is scarce so an abundance of strong hot water for long showers is not something you should do in Africa! Meals are served family style and eaten either at the long dining table or patio by the pool. Breakfast is included and was simple like fruits, eggs, veggies and local bread / roti / dough. I needed breakfast early the morning I had a day trip safari and Maga got up an hour earlier to cook for me! Dinner is at a cost of USD 6 per night and we had burgers & chips, delicious stew, and a pasta the nights I was there. it suited me as it was a sociable eating time and I didn't have to venture out and figure out restaurants to eat at etc. Nyumbani provides unlimited free drinking water which is such a great touch when places do this!!! There is also a full kitchen if you want to cook. FYI everyone washes their own dishes after eating. There is also no on-site food available outside of breakfast and dinner, but I was out on day trips over lunch time so cannot comment on food availability nearby. Most of the guests were longer term stays of people volunteering in and around Arusha (staying 6-12 weeks) and most of them eat at the hostel each night as their long stay package includes dinner. So it was nice and sociable for a solo traveler. When I was there most were actually women ages 20-28 and a lot from Germany (owner is German) or other European cities. But I definitely found the vibe welcoming and social if you also make a small effort to say hi and start conversation. it seems like everyone knows each other (but they have only just met and the people staying there is constantly changing). I also did 3 day trips booked through the hostel. Lake Duluti half day, Chemka hotsprings day trip (it was fun but it is quite a far drive!) - both with Venance from Nyumbani as my driver / guide and both included delicious local lunch. I did a full-day safari to Tarangire (they booked me on Suricata Safari as the actual provider - who I highly recommend for any safari needs!) Highly recommend Nyumbani for anyone looking to stay in Arusha to explore / post or pre any climbs or safaris - it has the best of simpler and cheaper than a fancy lodge, but still has nice comfy beds, space, a pool, loungers, a spa, rooftop drinks at sunset, social and great staff on site creating a homely feel. It was the perfect place for me to go after my big mountain summit as a solo traveller. Asante Sana Nyumbani! PS. the pics on TA are reflective

Great Place to stay! We spent a few days and enjoyed the atmosphere and the amenities. A fun roof top patio and bar along with a pool. The room was comfortable and quiet! It’s just outside the busy area with access to restaurants, bars. The staff is friendly and helpful! If you’re looking for a safe place to stay, look no further. Also, if you’re interested in a Safari or activity; they have you covered and great prices as well! Thanks for the amazing stay!
