Property's Favourite Review
I stayed here with my extended family including my elderly father. We had a good time and the food was delicious. The place is very spacious and has a good Home feeling. we really loved it. The owner was always there to attend to our specific needs and even gave an extra van to transport us around.

Place is away from busy and noisy city center, which is a great quality. And if you need to get to center, it is just a 10-15min daladala ride for 400 shillings. I never waited for a bus more than 20seconds literally.
Place is close to Njiro complex, where even is a cinema and lots of shopping places and restaurants around.
Hostel has lovely staff, very friendly and polite. Dorm room was spacious and clean. From balcony you could see mount Meru which is beautiful.
Breakfast was filling and dinner was also good.
On the negative side, shower pressure is nonexistent but can manage. Laundry service at 10$ plus drying for 15$ is definitely too expensive especially for backpackers. Wifi didn't work most of the time.
They also offer safaris at good rates and at good quality, as I heard from my roommates.
I definitely recommend staying there if you don't like the noisy city center. Was an enjoyable stay!

One of the best hostels I've been to! Had such a good stay at White House, I actually came back to stay after going on my safari. All the staff are so nice and welcoming, they have free breakfast, and offer dinner or lunch for $3. The food was ALWAYS delicious and something different everyday. The only thing is that you're not allowed to cook like you usually do in a hostel, but this is because they have their own chefs who cook delicious food so that's fair enough :) just don't go out and buy groceries if you intend to cook.
I stayed in 2 different rooms and both were spacious enough to store your luggage and had hot water, the rooms were cleaned everyday and everything was very well maintained. The beds are also very comfortable.
There is also the cutest house dog, so if you don't like dogs then they're happy to leave him in a room during your stay, but he's so friendly how can anyone not like him!
It's also very close to the centre, you can take a local bus for 400 shillings or the hostel also offer transportation. They also organise tours aswell so there's no need to book anything in advance if you can't find a tour company.
Overall I had a great stay and it really feels like home, and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a stay in Arusha!

compared to other options fo accomodation in arusha even in the close proximity the white house comes out worse than most in the same price range and quality of accomodation.
the hosue itself is very nice the common areas as well but when it comes to rooms it is not so good . beds are short,
breakfast was ok however we had to always ask for hot water for tea and coffee only one termose was available for 10 + people, dinner was simple (rice, spinach and some meat , beans every day we were there)
staff was ok although online communication could be better
location is ok as there are restaurants and grocery stores close by as well as public transport stop to arusha so there is not really a need to call a taxi
staff was nice juliette was always willing to talk to us and give us advice , the white house can even arrange various tours for you - but that is quite standard in all hotels and hostels in arusha

Hi there, Thank you for your review - we are always happy to receive feedback form our guests - both good and bad! We are very sorry that you didn't find our hostel to fulfill your expectations. Concerning the rooms, our rooms are of quite normal standard with a standard size bed - if you found it short, maybe its because you are accustomed with different standard - however, we are sorry to hear this! Regarding breakfast, we do serve a standard Tanzanian breakfast - of course, the norm is that there is always hot water available for drinks and we will strive to be more aware of this in the future - thank you for pointing this out. You mention that dinner was simple - in our accommodation, we offer a joined meal every evening - it's not a restaurant, where you can have your choice of dishes. And as far as the price goes, we serve our meals very cheap because they are in fact just simple Tanzanian meals. If this was not what you were looking for, there is plenty of restaurants close by where our guests can enjoy their meals - which you have even mentioned yourself. We have always served standard Tanzanian meals and usually our guests enjoy this! But if this was not for you, we are sorry that you choose to eat our meal. Again, we are very sorry to hear that you did not find our accommodation to be worth the price - we are very proud of our reputation and always strive to make the stay for our guests memorable. We will take your point into consideration and then we hope, that you will find accommodations in the future that will fit your need :) Thank you for your feedback and thank you for staying with us! Best wishes, Cathrine Mboje, White House Staff

The White House of Tanzania is a cheap and lovely hostel that kind of feels like a hotel, but with the feel of a hostels social availability.
They have dorms and private rooms with big bathrooms. And everything was nice and clean.
They offer African food, dinner and lunch, nothing too fancy, to a reasonable price.
The hostel seems to be quite far from the city center, but it's easy and totally safe to go there by either dala dala (bus) or taxi. The dala dala is way cheaper (and fun)!
All in all a really nice place to stay when in Arusha. Probably the best in this price range.

I stayed here for 2 weeks over Christmas and for half of it I was alone, however I never felt lonely. Julia and junior were so welcoming and friendly. The food is great and really cheap. The long dining table makes it really easy to make friends with the other guests. The rooms were clean and comfy and although the shower had low pressure it was always warm. This hostel really is a great place to stay and only a 10 minute walk from the main road where you can easily get a bus to the city centre.

The Stay at this hostel was amazing. Could’ve stayed for a much longer time than 4 nights!
The house itself is so nice, it’s very clean and there is a lot of space to hang out with the other people staying there.
The manager Juliet is super nice and fun, feels like you’re just staying at a friends house! :)
The hostel offers a lot of tours and tips to do while in Arusha, we booked our Safari through the hostel (Njema Safari Tour) which was so easy, one of the less expensive options and so much fun!
The breakfast is very good, too-you got a lot of options. I’d recommend trying dinner here to sometime, it’s very cheap and so delicious!
All in all, we’ll definitely be back :)
Oh and Albie the hostel-dog was definitely a huge plus, too!

I stayed at The White House for a week but wish I could've stayed for a month or longer. After staying in 20+ hostels over three months of backpacking through Africa, I can definitively say that The White House was by far the best—in terms of atmosphere, location, the people, services, food, everything!!! The rooms are clean, spacious, and comfortable, the home-cooked meals are delicious and the dining area provides a fantastic way to get to know the other guests. There's a nice lawn and plenty of spots to relax with a beer after a long safari or hike. Juliet is incredibly helpful and makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in.
I came to the White House by myself but left with friends and memories I will cherish forever!! :)

I’ve stayed in many hostels around the world but what makes this better is how it is family run. The house lives up to its reputation, it’s quite literally in the style of the White House from the exterior and inside the quality is always clean, always quiet and most importantly always a happy environment. Junior and Juliette (owners) are one of the highlights here, always helping you book excursions, helping you apply for volunteering or for any other personal needs.
This is the perfect blend of quiet and relaxing hostel with the opportunity for social events and drinking.

I originally didn't want to spend more than 1 night in Arusha, I ended up spending 4 nights and had an amazing time thanks to the staff at the white House of Tanzania. It's a perfect place to meet fellow travelers, to just chill in the garden and there is always cold beer in the fridge. The hosts Juliette and Junior are super welcoming (they helped me organising superlast minute safaris and bus rides for a very cheap price) and also they are always up for a chat over a card game and party! Definitely my favourite hostel in Tanzania!

Well David it depends on which bus station your talking about but the White House is not far from Clock tower.
We prefer English since our Spanish isn't very good, but the meals are included and you are more than welcome to stay with us!
