Well.... the Green Mountain is a two star place. Internet is poor. It's a "stop over" place on to your next place. We stayed overnight two/from Serengeti. The staff were mostly nice. Our first night though I was not at all impressed with one of the workers. I asked where to buy a couple of beers at a corner store. He said "just buy at restaurant". I asked where their supermarket was but neither him nor the girl wanted to tell me. They were not helpful and rather evasive with the truth. Then the guy kept hassling me to buy trinkets. I had to tell him to stop. Not pleasant. The internet was the super frustrating kind where you get a voucher, turn on your phone but as soon as you stop using it the internet connection is cancelled. This is not a vacation hotel by any means, its simply a means to an end, needs/must stop over place. The pool area is, I suppose, ok for kids, but not a place you would want to stay.

I will make this review as fair as possible and start by saying that this is a 3 star hotel at best and I’m used to staying at 5 star hotels. This hotel was arranged as part of our mid-range safari package. Pros: -Close proximity to Arusha airport, approx 30-40min drive (I think; I wasn’t paying too much attention) -The food in the restaurant is very tasty and affordable I had Kuku Paka and it was lovely, the chicken was well cooked and the sauce was very tasty; it is a mild sauce and wasn’t spicy at all, it cost 30,000 Tzs (approx £15). I also had the green mountain cocktail which was very nice and cost 15,000 Tzs (approx £5). The fresh juices are also very nice, we had pineapple juice and watermelon juice. -Breakfast was very nice and had a good selection of fruits, pastries, freshly cooked omelettes, sweet potato and baked beans, amongst other items. I was very well fed! -Staff are very friendly and helpful -We had been booked a standard room as part of our safari package and the hotel upgraded us to a deluxe room. The room was ok and pretty basic but had everything we needed for 1 night stay- comfy bed, TV (we didn’t use it as we had our iPad), spacious room, toiletries in bathroom, towels, safe in room (we didn’t use) -There is an outdoor swimming pool with some loungers around it, it looked pretty cosy and we saw people enjoying it but we didn’t make use of it. Cons: -The bathroom consisted of a sink, toilet and shower, however the shower didn’t have a cubicle/shower screen and was more like a wet room but as the shower was next to the toilet it meant the whole bathroom, including the toilet, got soaked after each shower. There is a hot water switch to provide hot water but I found the hot water only lasted a little while before running out. At first I thought it was because the switch wasn’t on for long enough before my first shower but the same thing happened the next morning after the switch had been on all night! The shower was scalding hot for a few mins then very lukewarm/cold. -We were in room 201, which was directly above reception and when I woke up during the night I could hear the telephone ringing (I woke up naturally rather than being woken up). I could also hear dogs barking at one point but it didn’t last long and I was already awake at this point -Tea and coffee is provided in the room but no kettle! I don’t drink tea and coffee anyway but this might be an issue if you do. I imagine they would provide one if you ask but I would expect it to be provided. -The fridge is quite noisy and can get a bit annoying but I got used to it after a while. I think the fan/motor switches on and off sporadically throughout the day/night. As I said, this is a lower standard of hotel than I’m used to staying at but it was very ok for what it was. If you’re used to 3 star hotels then this should be ok for you, if you’re used to 5 star hotels then manage your expectations, after all it would be unfair to compare apples to oranges! I would happily eat here again and again and may consider staying here if I only needed accommodation for 1 night.

Why the one star? In the end it's about a good night rest right? We specifically asked for a quiet room and the hotel confirmed our request. We hardly slept due to the continuously barking dogs (appearently from the neighbors). Even earplugs did not help. Things like a free upgrade are worth nothing if you simply don't sleep. On top of that, lunch and diner options in the restaurant will not make you smile. We are travelling the world for almost five months now and had one of the worst steaks here (seasoning is defenitely something else than just adding tons of salt. And de steak was more well done than i have ever seen). Totally don't understand why this place gets such good reviews.

We stayed 3 nights over the course of 10days and every time we were made to feel so welcome by all the staff! Each member of staff remembered us and treated our return like family! The food was fabulous! The rooms 405 and 411 are incredible spacious and well stocked. It’s a lovely treat to be able to relax by the pool after hiking/safari! Highly recommend this being a base in Arusha!

Jambo Rafiki! We stayed in the green mountain Hotel two nights before the Safari and a night after Safari. It was our first time in Tanzania. We really appreciate the welcome they showed us, to be in their country. Best start for our amazing trip in Tanzania! The Staff is super friendly. Alan wrote some important words down on a piece of paper that we need to learn in Swahili. So nice! 😊 The food was always tasty and fresh. Including the breakfast buffet in the morning! Chakula kitamu! It was our honeymoon as well so they prepared the bed nicely with roses and chocolate. We want to say thank you to the Green Mountain Hotel Staff for the lovely stay! Asante San a! See you soon!

We stayed here for 3 nights, 2 before our safari and then one after. Each time we were impressed by the helpfulness of the friendly staff, they were happy to print the health forms or Zanzibar and when I misplaced my wallet several helped me look for it, embarrassingly it was at the bottom of our suitcase. The restaurant has a good mix of food all was reasonably priced and tasty. The rooms were clean and as long as we remembered to flick the switch plenty of hot water. We also appreciated their efforts in getting our rooms ready for an early check in when we arrived pretty tired after the flight from the UK

The rooms were very clean with AC and warm showers. Additionally, the food was great! We would highly recommend the Green Mountain Hotel if you are staying in Arusha, Tanzania.

This is day one review. We just arrived today. We were received warmly and welcomed with a glass of juice for each of us. The porter helped us with our luggage to the rooms and gave us an overview of the room. The receptionist, Salma was warm , polite, friendly and welcoming. The rooms are very clean and neat. We got an upgrade from the standard rooms to the executive rooms which was really awesome as my teenage daughter and son could finally get separate beds in their room which is what works best for them. The room s have hot water for shower. The WiFi is weak as in all hotels in Arusha. That’s a global issue for the town. We hanged out at the pool for a bit before dinner. The ambiance and service is good. The beds in the rooms are comfortable and clean and the furnishing is tasteful. Overall we are happy with the first night. We are here for three days. Further updates to follow…

This hotel was so lovely to stay at after our Safari and week in Zanzibar before heading back t the UK. We had a suit for our family of four and the service was awesome. The staff provided us with a walk round and then we chilled for the afternoon enjoying their lovely menu and attentive service. Whether you are having a quick stay or a longer holiday at this hotel you will absolutely be made so welcome and relaxed at every moment. Thank you!
