Welcome to Moivaro Coffee Plantation Lodge & Estate, the lodge where you will stay in a charming atmosphere and enjoy every comfort you need. Moivaro Lodge is situated right in the heart of beautiful, natural scenery and yet is only 7 km from the town of Arusha: an ideal spot to enjoy the impressive flora and fauna of East Africa. At Moivaro Lodge we will ensure that you are looked after in a unique, friendly and peaceful manner, helping you to prepare for your safaris and cosseting you on your return in the evening. Our spacious thatched brick cottages are set in a lovely tropical garden, with private verandas ensuring every visitor all the privacy needed. Relax and enjoy the beautiful views of Mount Meru from the comfortable veranda, go for a stroll around the Moivaro property, or laze at the pool nestling in the midst of tropical trees and coffee plants. As a daily activity we arrange the Moivaro Village Walk. A unique opportunity to see everyday life in Tanzania and make closer contact with the local people. You can visit a local banana brewery and sample its beer; or hear the story of a local eccentric, and marvel at the tree house he fashioned for himself. A walk is typically 2 hours long and can involve a climb up Oldonyo Maas Hill for those looking for a more demanding experience.

For those reading this post, I want you to realize how the star system works. 5 stars in Africa is not the same as 5 stars in America. You have to realize that in Tanzania they do not necessarily have the same resources as wealthier nations do. I take this into account and gladly give Moivaro Lodge a 5 star rating. It's location is down a very rough road on the back end of Arusha but do not let that fool you. This is a beautiful lodge with very well appointed rooms. I was there on 2 separate occasions and there are units that are a little older that only offer a shower in the bathroom but some of the newer units also have a tub. There are no phones or tvs in the units but that was fine by me. The beds use a memory foam style mattress that is very comfortable. I happen to sell mattresses so I am particularly picky. There is a beautiful walking trail that circles the entire facility. They have a pool and sundeck area but it is just common. The restaurant area is all open air with a beautiful view of the front lawn and the monkey family that live there in the trees. They have a small lounge which serves every drink you can think of. The food is excellent. I must say that their food and their buffets rival many in North America that I have frequented. Don't forget the gift shop. It is kind of hidden but they have a really great selection of products at very reasonable prices. If I am not mistaken, some of their hand made items are created by and support the empowerment of local women. They have great security here as well. I challenge you to try to get to your room at any time during the night without a man escorting you with a flashlight. One last thing. They have excellent wifi in the lodge and depending on your chalet location, you may get it to work in your room as well.

Moivaro is excellent! We stayed here between climbing Kilimanjaro, safari, and a short trip to Zanzibar. It was nice to have a place we could leave gear and bags we didn't need for the various parts of our trip.

The staff is super nice and accomodating. The meals were top notch, and getting to watch monkeys play in the trees right outside our bungalow was awesome.

Highly recomend Moivaro!

We stayed at Moivaro Lodge for one night as a stopover on our way to Safari. The cabins were clean and pretty, in the middle of nature. The garden is super pretty and I immediately felt a very tranquil atmosphere when entering the lodge, so would definitely recommend if you feel like relaxing for a little bit. The dinner was lovely and it was the most extensive breakfast menu that we had on our trip.

On November 8, 2022, my two credit cards were taken out of my wallet while I was at the lodge and run for almost $40,000 to a company in Rwanda. I was traveling with a small group in Tanzania and when we checked in the manager was not available to put our valuables in his office. Our keys to our huts were the simple skeleton type and were on large wooden blocks. We could leave them at the front desk. There were many workers running around the grounds and the first night, I was awakened by someone with a flashlight and someone in the back of my hut. I didn't feel comfortable and put a "Do not Disturb" note on my door the next day. There were no safes in our rooms. The manager had simple boxes in his office with a simple key when he finally showed up. Checking out, I had accrued an extra room charge and the lady at the front desk had to take her credit card machine out to the lawn to run my card. One "didn't work" so we tried another. Internet was sketchy and I wasn't receiving alerts. I found all this out when I got home!!! On the positive, the staff was friendly, food yummy and the setting tropical. The lodge is in a compound(gated, etc.) and there is a walking path inside the grounds. The pool was not heated and full of debris from foliage around the perimeter.

Moivaro Lodge was the first stop on our two-week tour of Tanzania with Overseas Adventure Travel. Beautiful, comfortable, great service and excellent food. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. We were greeted with a choice of fruit juices.

This was our first stop in Tanzania before starting our safari in Tarangire. The staff were friendly and welcoming, but the hotel is a little bit tatty and the rooms were damp. Dinner and breakfast were good, and the lunchbox that was provided was fine too. The hotel was OK for a one night stay, but I wouldn't recommend it for longer.

Unreachable per phone, whatsapp or via booking. Therefore cancelled my booking on booking.com again, unfortunately.
Even asked a local to call them but no reaction whatsoever. Hoped to wake up with Arusha National Park view which was the reason why I booked.

Unless your tour group guide arranges something it is about 20 USD each way. It isn’t that far but too far and muddy to walk. Especially on way home with packages.
