We stayed at the Kigongoni Lodge during our safari and really enjoyed its quiet, lovely vistas. The cabins are spacious and located throughout a hilled rainforest with attractive valley views. The staff were very helpful and the meals were delicious. Many locals come to the lodge to get away from the bustle of Arusha. The lodge also is about halfway to the Mt. Kilamanjaro airport which saves some transit time.

The hotel location is ok, the food was so so delicious but somehow expensive good value for money. A great thing is the rooms have mosquito net's, nice road getting to the hotel. It is a great stop over for pre and post safari

This was our first experience after a 12 hour flight from Amsterdam so I do have to say that the hotel is quite nice. The rooms were very clean and extremely new. I think the staff, food and over all experience was excellent and compaired to many other high end hotels this hotel is right on par with the best hotels in Tanzania.

We went on a walk around the coffee plantation in the morning with a Masaii security guard and he spent an hour showing us the entire grounds. I would also recommend visiting the sibusiso school for children and see what an excellent operation they have. Overall a great value and great experience. The only downside to this resort is that it is about 15 minutes outside of town but well worth it since Arusha isn't the nicest place to stay but worth a visit.

We stayed at Kigongoni Lodge for one night in March 2011. We thought this place was average, and would consider checking out another spot if we travel in the region again.

PROS
- food was good
- rooms were clean and nice
- smooth check in and welcome

CONS
- the one major con was that we were over-charged for our meal at check-out the next morning...and I really felt the over-charge was intentional. After spending some time trying to resolve the error, then we paid, but the lady at the counter didn't give me the $20 change owed to me. I was bothered by the whole checkout process....felt like a money grab.
- dinner service was quite slow

In our planning my brother and I visited this Lodge a year ago and asked to see the Cottages. We found them lovely on viewing. A year later on the 5th September 2010 my husband and I stayed there with my brother for one night. This was the start to our much planned 10 day safari. We were given the family Cottage. From the moment I walked in I was disappointed and looking back should have asked to be moved. There were many things wrong but mostly it was dirty and the main sitting room looked like the furniture had been robbed! A dirty towel remained from the last guest hidden under the basins, toilets did not work correctly or moved dangerously while sat on them and constantly dripped all night. Plugs were missing from sinks and light bulbs didn’t exist in some rooms. The hot water really only served one bathroom. We could not get onto the veranda as the key was missing and no one in reception could find it. On viewing the veranda the next day I could see why, one would have fallen through the decking it was so very dangerous. The service at dinner was so slow we had to go and remind them we hadn’t got our food – they were reading a newspaper! The wine was good however. The same staff were on duty at breakfast so needless to say that was slow. The table linen looked shabby. Monkeys continually stole from the tables (not very hygenic) and the way the staff dealt with this was to feed the left over toast to the monkeys. The porridge was awful.

My brother who lives in Kenya has emailed and written to the Management about our stay and to date no reply. My advice is to anyone thinking of staying that it is very a nice setting don't be fooled by the web page but I wouldn’t waste my money staying there again. It seems there is a management problem. I will also be letting our tour company know that this lodge should be down graded or even better removed from their listings. Maybe we hit on a bad cottage and a shortage of staff but the no response from management to our complaint has now prompted me to post this review.

We spent a night here in December 2007. There must be changes as we found the lodge quite well kept and the staff responsive. We had Christmas dinner here and the food was good and fresh. We met the owners son, who is managing the place and he was on site and available to address questions and make us feel at home. The room was quite large, overlooking MT. Kili during sunset, very clean with a large bathroom with lots of hot water.
Overall the place was nice, food and service good. Would recommend. As I noted, the management is on site so there must be changes from previous reviews.
PS it also serves a good cause so it gave me some personal satisfaction that some of the profits are going to help the community.
Would recommend.

We have stayed at Kigongoni many times. The location is great, between Arusha and Usa River, with wonderful views (even of Mt Kilimanjaro when the clouds lift), rooms with lots of personality, and a great staff. A good place to overcome jet lag and get ready for your Tanzania adventure.

The lodge is on a a hill (Kigongoni in Swahili means on top of a hill/mountain as per our guide) in a secluded area with a clear view of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The green space is well maintained with monkeys, goats, birds.... The lodges/huts are decorated in authentic Africian style with comfortable and spacious bathrooms, nice warm water and even bath tub.

The staff there are brilliant. Francis checked us in very late in the evening and gave us warm welcome, arranged delicious warm dinner for us. The next day (his day off), he toured us around Arusha city center and took us to 2 stations to ensure we got right bus tickets. He has been extremely helpful in getting us e-visa printed. Thank you Francis!

Although it is a bit far from Arusha city center (about 10-15k), but many local mini bus could take you there with only 1000 shillings.

This is a very beautiful and comfortable lodge. Located on an old coffee plantation, the grounds are covered in greenery and monkeys visit from time to time. The rooms/cottages are spacious and decorated very nicely. The shower was the best - very hot water from a rainfall-style shower head. The food is delicious and the portion sizes are closer to European expectations than American. No television here. Wifi is free but limited to the bar/restaurant area. The staff is incredibly helpful, polite, and courteous. I would definitely recommend Kigongoni and return for another stay.

In early September, 2016, our family of three adult couples stayed at the Kigongoni Lodge the first two nights of our month-long trip to Africa based on "Rough Guides" and Trip Advisor recommendations. It was as quiet, lovely, peaceful and relaxing as other reviewers have said. The friendly staff welcomed us as we arrived late in the evening, and made sure we had whatever meal or drinks we might like, as the restaurant and bar stay open until all their guests for the day are settled. Breakfasts were delicious and lunch out on the patio was beautiful. Our rooms were large and comfortable and the staff was always ready to help. The Lodge provided us with a local guide to tour the central markets in Arusha and we were grateful for his calm efficiency as we made our way through countless shops and food stands. What really stood out for us was that the Lodge also funds and runs the nearby Sibusiso Foundation, which helps local physically and mentally challenged young children. Sander, the Lodge manager, drove us to the school, where we dropped off a large bag of donated shoes we brought with us from the US, and gave us a tour of their wonderful facility. They are helping many, many disabled children and what family they have and we were quite moved to be a part of this wonderful effort. Thank you, Sander and your family, for the work you do for the children, and for the lovely Kigongoni Lodge.

I agree with Elizabeth. It is not posh but for me it was awesome. If you are looking for posh I suggest Acacia Farm Lodge.
