We only stayed in the Arusha Serena Hotel one night before we moved on to begin our Tanzania safari with Serena Hotels. Happy Ngaile was my contact with the hotel to coordinate the Tanzania 7 day safari. She is based in Arusha and stopped by to say hi at Dinner. She was very easy to work with and we loved the whole trip! The Arusha Serena is on a beautiful property, worth spending some time exploring more than we did. Our guide and driver for our entire trip also is based in Arusha, Olais. He was a fantastic!. He has been doing safari drives for a long time, and was never stumped with a question. He also likes to take photos, so he had a great eye for perfect pictures along the way.

This is a beautiful old coffee plantation estate turned into a hotel. The main building is the bar, reception, restaurant. The rooms are beautiful 'hut' dispersed around the property. We got there at midnight after traveling from Amsterdam and were surprised by a delicious hot meal! Our waiter, Zainab, cheerfully welcomed us to Arusha and Tanzania (karibu - welcome). All the meals were excellent, good selections of wine, all staff friendly and helpful. Grounds were beautiful with monkeys running around. One of the gardeners took us around to see their kitchen garden and 5 different kinds of bananas! Rooms beautifully appointed with mosquito netting, lots of hot water, beautiful view of the grounds. Wonderful place to recuperate from many plane rides.

A highlight of our stay at Arusha Serena was a very nice and knowledgeable young man named Praygod Mosses, who took us birding around the property. He is studying to become a birding guide, and is excellent at knowing the birds by sight and sound. Be sure to ask for him!!!

Arusha Serena Hotel Small enclaves of hotel rooms with a lovely dining area on a manicured campus, and portions of the grounds tier down to a small valley. Green everywhere. Nice, comfortable front area for relaxation with a libation. Substantial rooms on cement floors and the beds were comfortable and roomy. Attentive staff, respectful and efficient. Food was first cabin. We were guided by a young man who introduced us to an Arusha market, a scene that demands a local with experience. His name is Bill Patrick, now our new pen-pal.

We spent 2 nights here before heading off on safari. Rooms were great, decent food and amazing staff. Grounds were well kept and we had a walk around the gardens. Welcome drink on arrival. We didn’t go to the lake but could see in the distance, .

Beautiful hotel with a view of lake Duluti. This was the perfect place to relax after a tiresome overnight flight and to start our safari. We arrived a day earlier. It has the ambiance of an old coffee plantation; however, it has been recently renovated and as a matter of fact, they are currently renovating the second floor of the main building. Their personnel will carry the bags to and from the rooms. There is a running loop around the property, the grounds are so beautiful with amazing greenery and flowers everywhere. Few coffee plants remain. The cottage style rooms are ecofriendly, and the décor is beautifully Tanzanian with wood everywhere, a mosquito net and with a window facing the lake. Obviously, it is a property surrounded by nature, so there will be bugs and other animals (many trying to get inside the rooms) at night people should not be hanging around outside by themselves and keep door always closed. In our rounds during the day, we met friendly gardener PraiseGod (see picture) who show us around the farm where we encounter a Colobus monkey eating bananas and we also saw many birds. We enjoyed drinks in the garden and the food was plentiful. All the personnel was super friendly and attentive. The hotel offer tours to the lake and to trails around.

This place is a true paradise. It is a very elegant former plantation home. It felt more like Hawaii than Africa. The rooms are surrounded by lush greenery and plants. The rooms were very nice, spacious, and had everything we would need for our one night. The staff was friendly and the food exception. Only downside was one of our friends’ room was broken into and her bag stolen through a leauvered bathroom window.

Stayed one evening whilst on route for a game drive. Beautiful old building and magnificent inside. Food was very good as was the service. The ladies are positioned to the front of the main building. They are quite large and well furnished. Big comfortable bed and plenty of hot water. Gardens are lovely and worth a walk around.

Spent the day with guides Alan and Dixon exploring the flora and fauna of the lake. Alan and Dixon are knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about their work. We learned, laughed and challenged them to a race back to the departure point. We didn’t have a chance. They left us in their wake. 😁 We highly recommend this excursion and our favorite guides.
