While waiting for check-in, we enjoyed tea and relaxing in the garden. Our triple bedroom is spacious with 3 huge single beds ensuite and balcony. We ordered ala carte for dinner at hotel. Next morning breakfast is served buffet style. Food is good and delicious. All of us had a good one night sleep before the start of safari trip. Would recommend to stay here.
Considering what you pay for this place (£26 a night) it's pretty great! Nice grounds, really friendly staff, good WiFi, clean, good restaurant and nice comfy rooms. Really good value all round and ideal place to base yourself for safari trips and kilimanjaro. They are happy to keep any bags after check out whilst you are away on safari etc for a few days at no extra cost. Only negative is location. A bit outside of town but we were always out really early and back late after trips so wasn't really an issue. Also wouldn't recommend walking around the area, especially at night - get a tuk tuk or taxi if you want to get around.
My wife and I and our teenage daughter stayed at the Charity Hotel for 2 one-night stays on either end of a safari. This hotel was booked for us by our safari tour operator, at my request based on the hotel website. Out of respect for the outstanding service our tour operator provided I am submitting this stand alone review of this hotel. The hotel grounds and outside seating area for the restaurant are lovely and our room the first night (room 204) had a lovely view of Mount Meru from the spacious balcony). The staff provided a warm welcome and even toweled off our luggage that had gotten dusty during travel to the hotel. Unfortunately, that’s the end of my positive comments. The corridors of this hotel offer better acoustics than most concert halls, so if you’re keen to guess how much change someone has in their pockets as they walk past your room, you’ll have a good audio cue to go on. If they talk or roll luggage, it’ll be a complete symphony. None of us are light sleepers. The rooms are well appointed with an aggressive cleaning solution, likely to hide the smell of mildew, which is evident from the numerous and extensive water stains. At one time I’m sure the tiled bathrooms were lovely but they have been retrofit with exhaust fans, punched through the wall with such refinement that the gaps would easily allow my fist to pass through the exterior wall. The shower in our first room leaked so extensively we had to mop a 1/2” of water from the floor with the one towel provided (for the three of us). Bedding was adequate except for the pillows which were slabs with the forgiveness of packed sawdust. Food at the restaurant for dinner was fine, but breakfast was abominable. Terrible pancakes and liver in some kind of sauce. Good juice though. Finally, while the grounds are lovely, once you’re there it’s likely you’ll stay put as the immediate neighborhood is not inviting for exploration. I am not inclined to provide bad reviews but I’m this case it was earned.…
This hotel was booked for me before and after my Kili trek with Kili Slope Tours. The first night the hotel was decent enough, although the rooms are a bit run down, the bathroom mirror is rusty. A hot water bottle in the bed is also a nice touch. The second night (after the Kili trek) the room I was given had no shower curtain and there was no hot water. On both nights, they also refused/unable to wash clothes. I am sure there are better options out there. Although the building looks nice from the outside, the rooms are lacking and just above a hostel in quality.
Starting with the highlight from the Charity: the staff! I've been travelling for over 6 weeks in Tanzania/Kenya and they were the most adorable staff I've met. They will guide you through do/don't in Tanzania/Arusha/Moshi and support you during your stay. I was at the Charity inbetween mountain trips and they said it was not problem to leave some luggage during my mountain trek (Meru/Kili). Breakfast and food is great (although waiting time is quite long for food - but everything is freshly made). The rooms are big and comfortable, although not particularly fancy - but clean enough. It's a very calm place with a beautiful garden and competitive price. However the hotel is located a bit outside of town. If you decide to walk in the neighborhood, make sure not to get too much attention (jewelry, money, clothes) as it's in a poor area.…
This is an hotel which is mainly a hotel that is primarily frequented by tourists leaving in or arriving from safari. I was however on a business trip and I stayed there for 2 weeks and half. The room was clean and the bathroom very ok. The staff is nice and helpful. There is a garden to enjoy. I liked the breakfast (a full meal actually) and guests can order food during the day - some dishes are very nice. Overall a very good experience.
There was hot water, room service was 24- hours , the food was always fresh and delicious - cooked on order. The friendly staff were always at beck and call and had the attitude to go with it always smiling and willing to support regardless. A very understanding team and always ready to cater to your needs. loved it! The only downside was the access to channels which were zero to none, so when you decide to stay in there isn't much to watch on TV unless you only want to sleep.
Totally friendly staff, helpful, good food in the restaurant, rooms are big and clean, shower doesn’t have too much water pressure but it is fine, the location is not in the center but you can walk up to the streets for 2 minutes and from there there are plenty of motorbikes that take you there, 5‘ drive
A very nice hotel with great view, happy and attentive personnel, delicious food, calm atmosphere and good location. We had our honeymoon there and everyone was so nice to us, special thanks to all staff who made this holiday most special. Definitely will visit again and highly recommended!
Great price value, I got a nice suite with a huge bathroom and balcony for a very good price. The garden is just as beautiful as it is in the pictures and it's very well maintained. The rooms look better in real life than in the pictures. The breakfast is served from 5:00 am and it is complex and delicious, you get quite a few cocked meals and even soup. Their a la carte restaurant is very nice, good priced, the food is good and the juices are just out of this world. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I could not buy a Tanzanian telephone card because the fingerprint recognition system was down, my rooming went out and I had to talk to Air Tanzania because of a reservation I made online, the girl from the front desk was more than happy to help me out, and I managed to solve my problem. I really recommend this hotel for anybody who needs a place to relax before and after their safari, I stayed here 1 night before we went on our trip and 1 night after we got back, they have luggage storage and it is free of charge for their clients. There is AC, but Arusha is quite cold so you won't be needing it. The bathroom could use a renovation, the AC only blew cold air and at night in Arusha it gets to 14-15 degrees, the serving at the restaurant was a little bit slow and the balcony did not have outdoor furniture, a table and and 2 chairs would have been nice.…
