Joyce and her son Ray are both lovely people. As others have mentioned, the food Joyce makes is delicious and fresh from her garden. I am vegan and she was very happy to make something delicious for me (banana stew, which was my favorite, and vegetable curry). The view is amazing out onto the jungle. Ray also took us on a walk to the next town to see a coffee plantation at a locally run organization. The hot water pressure here was also some of the best we had on our trip. I am hoping to return with students.

This is a truly incredible place with a very tranquil setting. Joyce really took on the role of becoming our mom and made sure we were well fed with her incredible cooking and used organic ingredients grown in her garden! Thank you soooooo much to the Songota lodge team you really made us feel at home! We will definitely be back!

Thoroughly enjoyed our time here, Joyce was so hospitable and welcoming that I'm thinking of returning to Tanzania just for her food. It was exquisite! Organic avos, bananas, strawberries, custard apples amongst other deliciousness grown in her garden! The location is so peaceful and the silence of not hearing cars after Dar es salaam was a blessing.

Songota is a relaxing place in the green, but not far from town. Joyce, the owner and manager is the best cook in the entire region of Northern Tanzania. She loves to cook and that makes her dishes so delicious.

I have been to Songota lodge before but it was my girlfriend first time there and both we had great time. We got picked up from Kilimanjaro Airport by Mama Ray's son (Ray) and he took us to the lodge. Our room was great and just what we want and my girlfriend was happy and i was happy. Our room was also clean and bathroom was very clean. Our host mama Ray made sure we felt like this was our home away from home. The home cook meal was so good and a lot of food. Seating outside our room was so nice and felt so peaceful and fresh air. We watched the sky change color and sun set and you can see the villages from far away since the lodge is up the hill. Excellent place and excellent host and her son Ray. We went to Arusha town and also we went to the water falls. Our stay was just for two days but it was wonderful and we are looking forward to return again soon. By the way the dining room is outside with priceless view. Thank you Mama Ray and Ray for hosting us.
