Travellers' Choice
We opened our doors in 1994 and were one of the first bed and breakfasts in Arusha. The main house was previously the home of Bernhard Grzimek, the German conservationist central to the creation of the Serengeti National Park. We are located in a leafy residential area, 20 minutes walk from the centre of Arusha. We have a beautiful garden and offer clean, safe accommodation which is unpretentious and excellent value for money. Facilities include a swimming pool, garden cafe, restaurant, laundry service, free wifi, free baggage storage, satellite TV and more. We are your home away from home in Tanzania and our staff look forward to welcoming you. Karibu Sana!

This location was the place we stayed for both our first night and our last night on Safari. I'd give it a "very good", by African standards. We liked the people. The rooms were nice and the beds were comfortable. The first night, we got in late and just went to bed--and were gone the next morning. The last night, we had some more time. Food was good (the coconut chicken with pasta was good and the beef samosas were even better)--bar service was friendly. Food portions were large. Coffee is really good. Wifi was ok in the restaurant area (you could get it in some rooms but not all). We did have an issue with a power outage on our return trip (and oddly enough had another one back home in the US the next weekend--it's not just Africa that has these issues). The staff did their best with that. Note that water pressure in showers, etc., is lower than in the US. That's due to the area being semi-arid, and water is at a premium. Always get bottled water, and don't trust the tap. I'd not hesitate to stay here again. It is a little noisy at times, even though we were away from the main road, as Arusha has grown to be a big city.

A perfect spot to gather oneself before or after a safari or business trip to northern Tanzania. Safe and secluded yet vibrant and close to all the amenities of downtown Arusha. Friendly and very helpful staff, together with absolutely excellent local management, adds to the pleasure and sense of security which one feels in this little oasis of lush greenery, and lasting values. So important these days, especially in a part of the old, old world that has begun ‘developing’ so very fast indeed. More than highly recommended!

This is a lovely lodge, close to downtown (20 minute walk), with a pool and restaurant on site. The rooms are spread out as you would expect in lodge, mostly on the ground floor with paths to the various doors. Stayed there 2 different nights and saw inside 5 rooms. All very nice. Only complaint were the showers. But at least they had hot water.

Such a lovely place! The rooms are big with comfy beds and also huge showers. The place has a pool, a really nice restaurant/bar, is surrounded by plants and trees but really the staff made our stay. They always have a smile on their face, love to make a short chat with you. Are interested in your journey and adventures and help you with whatever you need. When I left for a trip I forgot my camera so I called to see if I had left it. This was the case and they kept it aside until I was able to pick it up. All my Kilimanjaro memories were on this camera, so I am so thankful! 🙏 I would definitely come back to this place when I visit Arusha again. ❤️

Great hotel. Every room is different. Small bungalow type buildings surrounded by trees and plants. Beautiful setting. Breakfast buffet is excellent. Super friendly and helpful staff. Able to leave bags there if attempting Meru and/or Kilimanjaro. Would definitely recommend

The outpost lodge is a lovely place to stay in Arusha. The location is nice in a quiet street within walking distance of a few restaurants. There is a good restaurant and pool with nice places to sit and relax. They have laundry service and will organize taxis for you.

Spent two nights at Outpost Lodge as part of my Kilimanjaro trek. It is a lovely and simple, yet clean and welcoming lodge down a quiet street in Arusha. The pool is icy cold but nice for a dip. Delicious food on offer on the on-site restaurant menu - was very impressed by all my meals. Breakfast is provided, as well as pool towels. On-site staff very friendly and accommodating - including arranging the Airtel man to come to me at the Lodge to sort out a simcard - I didn't have to go into town to visit the store myself. Rooms were spacious. I would stay here again if in Arusha and looking for a nice lodge that that is reasonably priced and comfortable.

Excellent hotel with very friendly staff. The rooms offer everything you need and are spread out like separate lodges in the resort. Bar and swimming pool area is a nice to relax at. Menu in the restaurant is slightly limited but the food overall in excellent. Good choice of breakfast options.

Great property. My husband and I stayed here before and after our trip to the Serengeti. It is a great hotel with clean and comfortable rooms (the beds were perfect) and friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant provided delicious and reasonably priced meals. I would recommend this hotel.

If you are a naturalist, birder, ecologist or wildlife enthusiast who is passing through Arusha, yet only quite briefly, and you are on a relatively limited budget then I highly recommend staying at the Outpost Lodge. It’s in a quiet side-street, near to the centre of town. Actually a well-timbered avenue with plenty of trees and a quite few birds, listen in the morning, and not much extraneous noise. Arusha National Park: If you can stay nearer to Arusha National Park then I recommend one of the following three lodges, in increasing order of price: Kiboko Lodge, also for those independent travelers who are on a “sensible budget”, it’s near Ngurodoto village, on the park boundary, with extensive grounds and a small wetland which the highly considerate owner-managers (the Watoto “street-kids” foundation) are actively managing for wildlife; Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge, a middle price option, a very historic feel with sumptuous long established gardens, near to Usa River (it’s pronounced Oosa), there’s a lovely wild lake, and lots of tall trees harbouring Colobus and Blue monkeys, hornbills, kingfishers, mousebirds etc etc; Hatari Lodge, the most convenient for visiting the park, early and late, yet inevitably the most expensive. It’s within the national park, along the northern boundary and very close to Momella Gate. Also has a strong feeling for the C20 history and culture of the area.
