Quick Summary: - we spent 3 nights at Ubud first before coming to Ayana Villas for 4 nights - our stay at Ubud was phenomenal, one fo the most memorable trips - we are 3 adults and 2 kids (3 and infant) - we had booked a 2 bedroom oceanfront Villa at Ayana For those who are not familiar Ayana is a massive resort campus with 3 hotels inside. The campus itself is nicely done and has a calming sense. Check in process: We checked in early so that we could dine while the villa was being prepared. At 3pm we were advised that the villa is ready and the butler was coming to pick us up. So we want to the waiting area at stand waiting for the butler/buggy. Finally the pick up happened at 3:45 pm after multiple chasers! Later the butler told us that they are short staffed and hence these buggys will be delayed in general. Why did they ask us to wait if they were not going to be ready for 45 min? Villas: They are grand, approx 400sqm and well appointed. However they are quite dated and could use refurbishment. We had a major hiccup - the air conditioning in one of the 2 bedrooms did not work. The bigger issue was that during day 1, we felt that they were not even sincere in attempting to solving the issue. Day 2 we had to make some noise and the duty manager came over. The options were to move to 2 single bedroom villas for one night and then move to another identical villa the following day or stay out for 1 more day and then relocate. We chose the latter as it’s tough to manage with 2 small kids. So imagine wing charged for a two room villa so that the family has to wheeze together in one smaller bedroom and the living room. There were some problems or the other during our stay - like door knob broken, drain not working, phones not working. Service: This was a serious issue. The typical response time was 30min to 1 hour and in many cases unresolved. Was request required follow ups for it to be resolved. Once we asked for extra plates for food. They told us it would be a IDR50k extra charge which we were ok with but after 2 follow ups the plates came 1hr 40 min later once the food was done. We paid money for inconvenience and no thanks! They still charged us! For villas as they are spaced out, you would need buggy service from time. It typically takes 30-50 min to get a buggy and you need to chase at least 1-2 times to get one else they will likely miss the request. Restaurants / food I really liked the Indonesian restaurant Padi was nice and they accommodated our request. This was the all day dining + Asian restaurant They gave us a nice table at Rock bar - it was a good experience Italian was a bit sub par, but service was excellent In general restaurant service was unlike the hotel service and we quite liked it.…
The ocean view villas are exceptional; spacious, tranquil, and thoughtfully prepared (the rose petal bath on the first evening was pretty special). It is hard not to appreciate the magic of such a beautiful space that boasts unimpeded views of the water, lovely landscaping, a private pool, and an array of small touches that make everything so easy and comfortable. Sunset drinks at The Rock Bar are a must. There are lovely walking trails around the grounds and a spa that offers fantastic massages. The AYANA staff were patient, helpful and kind. You can't go wrong if you stay in an ocean view villa.
I'm supposed to stay at Rimba, because they had renovations. They're upgrading our room to The Villas at Ayana Resort. It was a really great experience, the bathroom is superb, you have 24hours butler service, excellent food and such an amazing view from our villa. I wish I can stay longer here.
The Villas at Ayana are like heaven on earth for us. we come back every year to the same Villa. And we have the same amazing butlers who take such good care of us - Bagus, Agus, Wira and Surya. they even help with unpacking. at the gym there is Dewa Oka with his amazing team who do incredible stretching exercises for us. the Villas themselves are beautiful with marble floors and bathroom finishes, comfortable bed, a living room and a bale, outside room which looks over the Indian Ocean. This is a reward for us and we highly recommend it.
We had an amazing time at Ayana. We had the luck to be upgraded to a villa and it was amazing! - villas are great, clean, well maintained - Great to benefit from a butler service, although it was more just a buggy driver than a real concierge butler, as the answer to most request was “i am not sure, let me check and call you back”. - pools are beautiful, clean, well maintained - service is kind and helpful but quite slow to react, especially for low season. - Food is excellent, but overpriced - the hotel beach is not clean. Unfortunately the sea is polluted by plastics. The hotel should remove trash from the beach. I remember seeing a slipper, plastic bag of candy, toothpaste cap and several plastics parts on the sand.
