During this difficult time, trying to find different things to do whilst keeping safe is challenging. We are actually at Mara River Safari lodge at the moment and I think it’s awesome. The staff are really welcoming and helpful. The rooms are clean and of a good standard for Bali, quite large, ensuite, fridge, ac, tv etc. View from balcony on upper level we saw zebras, rhinoceros and wilderbeast. But their biggest attraction must be the restaurant (electric buggy courtesy from room). I am well travelled but have never seen active healthy lions in close proximity, even from the toilets 😂 I would definitely recommend this hotel for a totally different experience and especially with reduced prices during COVID if you are in Bali 😊

First time stay at hotel inside of Zoo. So amazing when we heard the voices of many animals also saw their activities just from our room. Excellent service from all hotel staff and we also enjoy all Safari activities (Safari journey, many animals show etc). In the morning we could breakfast with the lion.

Stayed here one night with my partner, the hotel side of it is so unique, the pool overlooking the Safari is beautiful and was so peaceful! The rooms aren’t close enough to the zebras so they give you carrots for feeding however you can’t feed them at all so I ended up throwing mine so they could eat them at some point. The rooms have an African feel to them but do let bugs in! The zoo was very poor in my opinion, not a lot going on unless you wanted to pay for photos of feeding! The lion restaurant was nice to eat in, good food but a more expensive meal in Bali obviously as there’s nothing else you could have! Wouldn’t return but glad we tried it.

Wild animals are not supposed to be hand fed and patted or caged yet this seems to be viewed as okay, when really these should be left alone. This is super important as they already have an imbalance in their numbers and domesticating can only cause further problems. Tourism should not be supporting such captivity.

Response from Hotel M, Manajer at Mara River Safari Lodge

Dear Safiah H, Warmest Greetings From Mara River Safari lodge - Gianyar Bali,, Thank you for visit and stay at Mara River Safari Lodge. we appreciated your review upon the park, thank you for your concern about our animals. as you might see when you went around the park, we keep our animal in an exhibit that was designed as close as their natural habitat and there is plenty of space to them to wonder. you might tell that, unlike conventional zoos where they are kept in cages for display, here at the park we have exhibits where visitors not only will see the animals but also get a better idea of how their natural habitat looks like. please be advised our park is honoured to be accredited by SEAZA in animals welfare in 2019. This is an acknowledgement that all our animals are being given the best husbandry and veterinary care and supported by a team of dedicated professionals. once again we sorry that you did not enjoy the our park and hope one day you could come back and give us the chance to change your mind Thank You & Best Regards Made Suesnawa Hotel Manager
