A very nice, centrally-located hotel of five-star quality and service. We had a very spacious Imperial room with a comfortable king bed. Food at the hotel is excellent, with lots of western and Asian options. Coronavirus safety measures are in place. Friendly, helpful and attentive staff.

The Sunshine Hotel was just that … a little ray of sunshine in an otherwise, slightly grey city. We chose the Sunshine Hotel partially because of its central location to a range of shopping districts, in addition to its spacious room, king sized bed and excellent pricing for such a well-appointed hotel.

Yes, this is a hotel that has been around for a few years, but our room was very clean, beautifully appointed and had everything we needed for a relaxed comfortable stay. We had a Deluxe Room with front view that was serviced daily, with a king size bed and turn down service, a large flat screen television, coffee table and lounge chair, desk with chair to work on the laptop, a reasonable WiFi connection (be warned that Facebook is blocked), a compact yet spacious and practical marble bathroom complete with hair dryer, mood lighting throughout with switches everywhere, a basic mini bar, robes and slippers, a small safe, some magazines and of course, the all-important fire mask, which luckily we didn’t need.

The entrance to the hotel boasts a large well-kept garden area with waterfall that lights up nicely at night, showing off the fact that this hotel has space that many others would envy. There’s even a giant fortune cookie and a couple of lucky elephants to welcome you out front before you’re met by at least four doormen at the entrance. The foyer oozes luxury, with intricate marble floors and pillars, crystal chandeliers, circular stairs, waterfalls, massive flower arrangements, comfortable lounges and rather nice wine bar called the Moonlight Lounge.

The Oriental Delight buffet restaurant upstairs is magnificent, putting on an amazing show of foods from all around the world, every day for breakfast and again for dinner. We enjoyed breakfast every day in the buffet restaurant, with one of the many chefs cooking me up a personal omelette most mornings. Don’t worry, there’s both western and Asian food on offer every day. We also had several dinner meals in the Oriental Delight buffet restaurant and the food was truly world class. They even include some basic Beer and Wine choices in the all-inclusive dinner buffet pricing. The only complaint I had was the coffee from the automatic machine in the buffet … which to be honest, was pretty terrible. But that was honestly my only complaint and I am a tad fussy when it comes to coffee.

There’s another a la carte restaurant called the Imperial Executive Lounge on the floor above, which we never got the chance to try, partially because most of the menu items seemed to be looking at us in their colourful menu photos. This restaurant offers a far more traditional Chinese cuisine and atmosphere. Let’s just say, my wife doesn’t like eating anything that looks like it might strike up a conversation with her while eating.

There’s also a nice little coffee shop offering everything from a club sandwich to vodka lime and soda, where you can relax and enjoy a bit, a drink , some company or a combination of all these things after a long day shopping.

We were more interested in the local shopping, so we didn’t really try the vast range of facilities the hotel had to offer, but we did take a walk to see some of what was on offer. There was a beautiful indoor weatherproof swimming pool with Jacuzzi, indoor 9-hole putting green golf simulators, a gymnasium, table-tennis and snooker tables, tennis court, children’s playroom, a chess and card Room, luxurious sauna spa and professional massage is available too. They have conference and ball rooms, a business centre and even a banquet room. I’m sure I saw a miniature movie theatre in the hotel too somewhere, but you’d have to double check that one.

The staff were at all times welcoming, pleasant, helpful and the smiles are not hard to find. From calling a taxi, to waling us to a Chemist to help ensure we got the right headache tablets, nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff at the Sunshine Hotel Shenzhen. Our concierge “Vince” spoke good English and was always eager to help answer any questions and point us in the right direction.

If you’re staying in Shenzhen, Window of the World is a theme park worth visiting too, but allow more than a few hours if you want to see the whole park before the night show starts.

In closing, we were very happy with our choice of the Sunshine Hotel in Shenzhen and would have no hesitation in staying with them again, should we be fortunate enough to visit the city again.

Location is convenient, 5 min walk from the MRT station. Hotel appears to be tired and old, I had a city view room on the 8th floor, can hear the traffic noise even though it has a secondary window glazing!! Bathroom looks very tired but clean though. Carpet in room has a musty smell. The whole hotel is crying out for a complete refurb.

The bed is comfortable, linen is soft and silky.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised by the lobby. Already familiar with Shenzhen, we knew that the location was ideal, but we actually booked Sunshine based on TripAdvisor reviews.

Upon check-in, we were informed that our rooms were on a smoking floor. My reservation clearly indicated no smoking, yet they told me that they had no more standard rooms in a non-smoking area of the hotel.

It took about 20 minutes of VERY vigorous protest with several staff, and when I finally insisted on seeing a manager (clearly the only person empowered to make a decision,) we were given an upgrade to a superior floor without smoking.

In all honesty, that is really the only misstep we had during out 8 days at Sunshine over 2 days. As far as amenities go, everything was reasonably high standard for China.

They had a miniature golf course which they charged a ridiculously high amount of money to play on. It was VERY simple: basically astroturf with holes drilled into it. We had assumed that playing would be free or for a nominal fee. During our entire time there we didn't see even one person playing miniature golf.

Room was very comfortable. Internet was more than adequate. And the staff was excellent. All in all a positive experience. Definitely my choice of hotel when I am back in Shenzhen.

We wanted to try a holiday soley based on internet info and bookings. Returned yesterday from a couple of weeks in Bangkok and China - loved it and can't wait to set off again. Tripadvisor info a great help and based on this advice, booked our hotels. Bangkok Pathumwan was amazing, after 7 days of that we landed in Guangzhou, the Tianlun Hotel. We stayed 2 days and decided it was a let down after Bangkok. Staff had difficulty with English language. People less friendly both on the street and staff in the hotel - taxi drivers decidedly unfriendly. Got back on to Tripadvisor and liked the look of Shangri-la and Sunshine Hotels in Shenzhen. We took the bullet train down and looked at them. Liked both, booked Sunshine as no problem with short notice booking and took a car down there the next day. No problems with cutting short our stay, no penalties.
Stayed Shenzhen 7 days and had a ball. According to the locals the Sunshine is one of the best in Shenzhen. Unfortunately we got a smoking floor, don't know if there is any non-smoking places there - hard to find anywhere where there isn't someone either smoking or where they had just finished smoking, eating places, shops, taxis etc., found it hard to get Western food. Love Asian food but started to long for a grill after a week or so. Ate at the Landmark Hotel - set out like an old English manor inside. Loved the feel of the place and would love to stay there next time. We also visited the Panglin (opposite the Sunshine), the food great, a new building and in our opinion both are better than the Sunshine. We booked a deluxe room, it was small, NO drawers in the entire room. The only place where we lived out of our suitcases as we took little that could be hung up. Rooms noisy. There is double glazing but not airtight, therefore morning and nights we couldn't see out of the windows with the condensation. Also the noise from the corridors was loud. We will not stay at the Sunshine again, but can't wait to return to Shenzhen. It will be a toss up between the Shangri-la, Landmark or Panglin. All close to shopping and train station.

WOW, when i booked this hotel online it had good reviews and the price was reasonable. When we turned up at the hotel I thought we were in the wrong place as it looked quite lavish. The staff behind the front desk were so polite and extremely helpful, we were checked in to our room rather quickly. When we got to our room we could not believe our eyes at how wondrous it was, compared to the hotels in Hong Kong this place was huge. We had a king size bed that was so comfortable i did not want to get out of bed and the bathroom was just lovely and of course rather large. If you're ever in Shenzhen this is definitely the plan to stay and if I am ever in Shenzhen again we will definitely base ourselves here again.

The best part of this hotel is its location and convenience to reach out many places within Shenzhen. The hotel rooms are pleasant however not to the 5 star standard. My stay here was comfortable but had real trouble with the food. Hotel is indeed a old structure and rooms and bathrooms give you sneak of dirty corners. Food and Entire hospitality is focused on local Chinese tourists or travelers and may not suitable for international tourists. there are many shopping malls and spots where you can try out varieties of items includes electronics, DVDs and other gadgets.

We stayed at the Sunshine Hotel in December of 2006 for 3 days. It was very well lit up, clean, big, and nothing short of a 5-star! After doing extensive research over the internet for a good quality hotel, we settled on the Sunshine, and were greatly impressed with the hotel.

It is centrally located, room sizes are excellent(ask for non-smoking room), and all the shopping is located at a 5-minute walk. It is also close to the station if you come in from Hong Kong - only a 5-minute ride. The hotel provides a free shuttle from and to the station, so use that. OR, if you take a taxi from Shenzhen station then do not pay more than 35Yuan!!

So go ahead, for a hassle free and safe stay in Shenzhen. Excellent lobby, with a cafe with Philipino girls singing light music every night. Classy stuff... Stay at the sunshine...You'd be only too impressed to return!!!

Staying in sunshine hotel was pleasent. Every morning house keeping deliver me the
copy of journal from internet of my country, and every body tries to assist me in all the way. They provide me the car to go to station anytime and the shopping area (dongmen) is 5 min walk. The exchange rate was beteer than the bank in town and you don't need to que up.(but they dont have foreign currency change, so don't go with big notes.)
The only thing I didint like very much is breakfast. I need big full cup of espresso every morning to wake up, but was included for only one demi espresso for free breakfast.
If you want more, you have to pay.
That's what I didnt like, but worth paying 805RMB a night.
NB:The spa area was closed when I stayed. If you need spa, you have to check with them!!

Very inexpensive buffet in 5-star hotel, they have various seafood selection.

The prawns, crabs, sashimi and raw oysters are really fresh, drinks including red wine, white wine. Other dishes are more South-eastern Asian style, tasty and safe to eat.
