2021 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
In 1979 UNESCO declared the colonial city of La Antigua Guatemala as a World Cultural Heritage Site turning it to a recognized treasure of exceptional value before the eyes of the world. In the XVII Century, the Convent of Santo Domingo was one of the largest in America and in 1773, the earthquake of Santa Marta almost totally destroyed it. In 1989, the project known as Casa Santo Domingo was developed with the primary objective of rescuing the vestiges of the Convent and Temple buried under tons of rubble. Hotel Museum Spa Casa Santo Domingo progressively emerged where each corner is a page lost in time that joins others to form a beautiful chapter of the great book of our history.

We stayed 5 nights in this hotel in two different suites with SPA access and we loved it ! All the rooms are different. Ours were huge with a comfy king-size bed, we had a private inside and outside jacuzzi and the direct access to the SPA was sooo practical. The hotel in an open sky museum, they have a chocolate factory, a pasta fabric as well as a candle shop and it's really worth the visit. They even have a few parrots totally free that they rescued from mistreatment. The food at the Refectorio was amazing, every dish that we ordered was tasty with a great presentation. Their Cook is really famous and there's no wonder why. You can even visit their museum as a visitor if you don't stay at their hotel. A great place to stay if you are visiting Antigua.

Each night I took a hot bath with a wood fire for the standard room price. This hotel was absolutely amazing. I work in healthcare and was volunteering at a school for students with disabilities and I am so happy I stayed here. My room was extremely clean, kept clean, had a wood burning fire, amazing staff, ruins on site, and an amazing restaurant staff for coffee and wine. The hotel is directly in Antigua and a quick walk to anything. I felt safe and at home. I can not wait to come back next year for work.

We stayed at the spa with my wife to celebrate our anniversary. The message therapists were excellent, the food was great, the pools and Jacuzzis did not feel crowded. We enjoyed walking around the City for a few hours and coming back to this oasis. We always enjoy touring the museums and walking around the grounds. We will continue to come back. We felt really relaxed and were able to recharge. We have stayed with our kids as well and they love it. Lastly, the staff is very nice! Cannot recommend enough.

Grounds in this hotel are breathtaking but the room are disgustingly filthy and moldy!!! The rooms at this hotel have clearly not been renovated in 2 or 3 decades!! The worst 5 star hotel I have ever seen!! Avoid this hotel at ALL costs!!!I have seen nicer rooms in hostels when I was a student!! I could not believe my eyes when I saw how terrible these rooms are. The pool is also only pone meter deep so very hard to swim in!!!Looks like a nice place to eat but I would not let me dog sleep in their rooms!!

The hotel is not staffed properly and service is poor. Blame it on COVID? I booked a room with breakfast included. But, since they have COVID regulations in place, they cannot serve all the guests. When you call to have room service, then they tell you that the breakfast included is not the same. So, in the interest of filling all rooms, other hotel services suffer. My suggestion is not to stay in this hotel during COVID. They still price it as a 5 star hotel, but service is 2 star.
