It's hard to summarize just how awesome Earth Lodge is, but I will give it my best shot!! First of all...yes, it is not the easiest place to get to, but that's what makes it part of the adventure!! Earth Lodge is an eco friendly hotel that is situated on the side of a mountain so that means walking up and down a path to get there. Uber can be hit and miss, but they do have their own (paid) shuttle, which we never had a problem with. Because it's slightly isolated, that means that it is SUPER quiet and peaceful. The staff are amazingly friendly, the food is so fresh and delicious and the rooms are all different and comfortable. We kept extending our stay, so moved to 3 different rooms. And the yoga studio!!! Seriously the most amazing yoga space I have ever seen. Huge windows look out to the volcanos, and the birds are chirping during your morning classes!! We took several classes and loved every one. We saw that they also offer massages, but weren't able to organize a time, as the masseuse was always booked. We wished we could've stayed longer, but had a flight out and had to go!! The hotel was able to organize a Covid test for us so we could return home, and the lab worker came straight up to the lodge so we didn't have to waste time going down to Antigua. Definitey would recommend for nature lovers, and those that are looking for a different, chill experience.…
We arrived via private transportation for a 2 night stay in Casa Del Encino. Reception is friendly and able to explain the services and fee structure (pay at the end for food/beverage and any room charges). We didn't mind the 300m hike down so much since we were expecting it. The Casa Del Encino is fine, the view is beautiful. There is only one working light and the outlet fits pretty loose. The bathroom is pretty rustic but the shower was nice and hot. Be prepared to be one with nature and see a few spider friends during your stay. We arranged the romantic package with a bottle of wine, flowers, and chocolate upon arrival to our room which was quite lovely. The food was freshly prepared with good ingredients - nothing incredibly authentic but tasty all the same. Same goes for the drinks. It was difficult to get picked up from the 300m point, in fact it never actually happened. Ubers will refuse to drive up there; however you can catch the Chicken bus into the center of Antigua for about 5Q/person. That pick up point is 1km away from the lodge and we were able to actually snag an Uber to the airport from that spot on the day of departure. In returning to the US, the current COVID policy requires a COVID test within a day. If you're traveling on the weekend there are no places that can do testing in Antigua; however, the Earth Lodge folks said someone can sometimes come by to do an antigen or PCR test at the lodge. We didn't get to do that since they weren't available. We instead planned on completing our COVID tests at the airport and arriving 3-4 hours before our departure, which meant leaving Earth Lodge at around 6:30am. We confirmed with reception that they would meet us at the 300m pickup point and closed our tab. We were at the pickup point early (6:20) and waited until 6:40 before deciding to walk to the 1km pickup point. We got there and still no transportation. We ended up negotiating with an Uber driver to pick us up there and take us to the airport for 200Q cash. During this time there was no one at Earth Lodge that we could contact and we weren't given any contact info for the transportation. Moral of this story - don't even attempt to get picked up at the 300m point. Be prepared to wait and be flexible with your travel plans.…
I've been at Earth Lodge few times, once to spend the weekend, once to spend the day outside Guatemala City, and last November I did a yoga retreat there. I loved the experience, the food, the people, the amazing morning view with the volcanoes, the temazcal (mayan sauna), the yoga instructors and the vibes in general.
Just wow. We spent a week here and were so sad to leave. The atmosphere, the views, the food, the cabin... it was all so magical. We stayed in Casa Aguacate, went to sleep every night with the view of fairyland and woke up to the dramatic views of the three volcanoes and the beautiful sky. The staff was sweet and accommodating and the food was delicious. Everything was super reasonably priced. We enjoyed yoga lessons, massages, the temazcal, the fireplace at night, along with eating and working on our laptops in the common area. Loved our stay and will be back for sure! I don’t have one bad word to say about it - it was perfect!
We visited with my fiance and loved the service and views and wonderful people all around. the grounds are very well kept and advocado farming is super intresting. The tree houses are very cool and unique. It was a great overnight stay, just a little ways from antigua. Perfect for a peaceful and relaxing evening/day.
