While everyone's accommodation needs are different when traveling, mine was simple. I wanted a clean, well-appointed hotel with breakfast included. Tryp checked all of those boxes for me. I was accommodated with the early check-in request, which I really appreciated. My room was on the 8th floor. There wasn't much of a view from my room but that wasn't important for me. The downside is that they seemed to have been doing some construction work on that floor, which made it noisy and a bit dirty at times. The room itself was clean and Housekeeping was on point, ensuring that the rooms were always made.Breakfast on the first day was pretty good but not so great on the others. This is a four-star hotel with a 3.5 star rating. It really is wonderful. The breakfast here is excellent, the people are excellent, and although it is not super fancy 5-star, it is a very solid 4 for an excellent price. Here is a detailed review of the room and the pool and the breakfast. I have to say that it was a rocky start. Check in: When we arrived around 2:45 our room was not ready. And I thought it was a problem, until I realized that we arrived early. The front desk person (there are only 2) said that we could go to the pool and leave our luggage right there in the lobby. That made me feel a little bit uncomfortable, as I’m accustomed to other hotels putting little tags on your bags and having a special luggage room while you wait, but this was just a different situation and we needed to trust it. The front desk person was very nice. We asked for an upgraded room floor, and he started to research that and then he said the type of room we required (which featured bunkbeds) was only available on a certain floor. Fortunately it was high up enough to have a little bit of a view. Since the room was not ready and we were going to go to the pool, we also grabbed a drink at the bar. The room itself was also a bit of a disappointment at first, because although we had a view, I knew there were better views from other parts of the hotel, but it was functional. It had bunkbeds, one of them squeaked a little, and there were marks on the wall; unfortunately they picked a creamy white wall color, which was probably pretty conducive to having marks on it, especially with the type of room that would have a bunkbed and young kids. Perhaps they should consider repainting in a neutral color with a scrubbable finish instead of a matte finish. I was really happy with the toiletries and the bath was clean (there is no tub, just a shower). And the bathroom was modern. In giving the room a second look, it was totally fine, I was just viewing it from a five -star lens. it really was just aesthetically a few marks on the walls here and there and although the bunkbed squeaked, that was mostly because I had a restless 18-year-old boy sleeping in it. We stay in lot of 5-star hotels, so I expect a 5-star room, but I kept having to remind myself that this was not a 5-star hotel and not expect perfection. The real star of the show is the rooftop pool. Keep in mind that the hot tub is not hot. I don’t know if it is supposed to be hot. I don’t know if I would even want it to be hot. I think perhaps maybe it is not supposed to be hot, but it is wonderful and the bubbles are really soothing and it is the same temperature as the pool. We stayed in the pool for hours admiring the view, and then we ordered drinks from the pool bar. They were so friendly, and the happy hour lasted for 5 hours! Vibe of the clientele: Very international. We saw some couples and a lot of families traveling with older children. Families with teenagers, not a lot of little kids running around. We saw a guest being really rude to a person at the front desk. They were spelling out their name really slowly as if the attendant was not capable of understanding what they were saying. It was an entitled 20 something-year-old boy, and it broke my heart to watch him treat the front desk person this way. The attendant handled him with dignity and did not raise his voice. Check out was easy. Neighborhood felt a little sketchy at night but not unsafe. Just be aware you are in a city. Use your city attitude and have city awareness. We walked a few blocks to dinner. A few stores were also open. Although they normally charged for breakfast, the concierge was able to comp it for us. It was a buffet. The juices were really great and everything seemed hot and fresh, not warmed over like it had been sitting there for days. In addition to breads and cereals and yogurt, there were sautéed potatoes, and stewed meat and other offerings. Lots of great fresh fruit options as well. A nice surprise! Would stay here again. This was our first visit to Panama and a great one. Check in was easy and the staff was accommodating and friendly. The rooms and the hotel are extremely clean. The cleaning staff clean every day and do a great job. Breakfast was good and meals at the restaurant were inexpensive. A plus for the hotel is the arrangement of transportation with Fernando, which was always on time. All of his drivers despite not speaking English were pleasant. I rated the hotel a 4 because I think that the staff needed to be able to understand and communicate in English better since the hotel said there was English speaking staff. Overall I’m pleased with my stay at Tryp. I certainly will be staying again and recommending the hotel to others.

This is a nice hotel, well appointed and convenient. Clean and comfortable with a small rooftop pool and friendly and helpful staff. The bedroom was large with a good sized shower in the bathroom. Good WiFi.

Got told to “piss off” by reception staff. Absolutely mortified. Asked for management by two separate departments and told nothing is available until tomorrow. Took the name of the man at reception who said those words (Alejandro) even though he did his best to hide his name badge. Never in my life have I had such a terrible experience at a hotel. Service took 3/4 of an hour at the roof top bar. Everything about this hotel scream’s disaster. Save yourself whilst you can and book somewhere else.

We are sorry and surprised that you had such an unpleasant experience because of front desk staff Alejandro who actually has being put on hold for further investigation since this is not our regular standard of operations. It seems that your response was not finished but we do appreciate the information you provided. We will address this with our team to know more about what happened, but we understand that the main issue was that your credit card was declined 3 times and that probably the lack of communication with our Bar staff couldn't make your visit comfortable . We'd like to note that this is not the norm for TRYP Hotel and we truly hope for another opportunity to serve you better in the future.

The Hot tub was not functioning (had same temp as the pool), that was disappointing as this was the amenity that made me choose this hotel. They had and ongoing construction in the fitness area saunas, only one was open for use, I made sure to use it a couple of times and that was nice. The restaurant's food was good in the morning and at noon but it was not good for dinner, the food at dinner time tasted old & dry the seafood soup tasted bad and the hot chick wings were very dry, stale and the hot sauce was missing. So we avoided to eat dinner at the hotel. The hotel it's a not smoking hotel however our room smelled like smoke most nights, looks like the smoke was coming into our floor from guest smoking at the pool area from a broken window on my floor (top floor) that was directly under the pool area. My phone was not working upon check in so I had to go get a working phone at the front desk. The staff was friendly the AC worked good, overall the hotel needs a little TLC.…

Well, after email confirmation and notes taken at the hotel about our late arrival, they cancelled my booking the night of at about 10:00 pm and gave the room to someone else. When I saw an email stating the rez had been cancelled, I called before boarding the plane to PTY. The night mgr just repeated the fact the room was gone and none will be available upon arrival. Wow. We did arrive and Gaby was at the front desk. She was the earlier email/notes confirmer. Gaby apologized and got us in the first available room a few hours later with, so far, no charge.
