Le Méridien Panama garners praise for its prime location with scenic views and suitability for business, while the staff's friendly and professional demeanor significantly enhances guest experiences. The hotel's chic atmosphere, characterized by a modern and inviting design, is consistently celebrated, as is the overall cleanliness of the well-maintained rooms. While the value is appreciated by many for the range of amenities and services provided, some guests feel improvements could be made in areas such as the restaurant and pool facilities.

Some people may think this hotel is a little dated, but the price, location, value, service and breakfast made it a very enjoyable stay. I saw some reviewers didn't like the gold suite while others loved the gold suite. The reason for that is there are a number of gold suites, not just one. Our room was great with a living room with a big screen TV, a large closet and a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi. The bed was comfortable and we slept well.
The breakfast had an omelet station, a large selection of items like a beef with vegetables dish, poached eggs in tomato sauce, lots of different fruits, spicy pastrami and the usual scrambled eggs with bacon and excellent coffee, The service was very good at breakfast and desk staff were very helpful.
The location was central and it was only two blocks from the Gaucho Restaurant where we enjoyed a steak dinner. Because the location is so central Uber rates were cheap to go places. We went to the Kava Restaurant for dinner and the Uber was about $5 to get there during rush hour and $2.78 to return to the hotel.
The cleaning staff were thorough and pleasant. We have no complaints about the service.
It was reasonably priced, much cheaper than the Hilton or other hotels in the same class, so we got good value. We would definitely stay here again.

We would have two stays at this property one week apart and found the location excellent and the ocean views of old city from the Platinum Suite a bonus.

The hotel is somewhat dated and has been refurbished, although unfortunately bed side plugs and USB charging ports were not part of the last refurb!

Staffs here are mostly awesome and of particular note is Monica at the front desk who always greeted us and went above and beyond to help us with presenting issues!

Although rooms are still being advertised and sold as Club floor rooms, the club floor lounge is still not open and no one knows when it will open again. However as Bonvoy Platinum members we were offered buffet breakfast in the Saril restaurant as well as happy hour drinks and snacks in the same restaurant!

Housekeeping was always a hit and miss – some days the room sparkled and other days we had to call as the coffee, soap and toilet paper were not replaced along with dirty cups and coffee machine!

The most annoying aspect was the conferences on the sixth floor that at break and lunch spilled out onto the very small pool area. Conference attendees would mill about completely oblivious to guests lying in the sun and begin conversations standing on either side of us.

One attendee tossed a heavy bag unto my legs when I was lying in the lounger in her pursuit to get into a selfie with her fellow attendees – Hotel staffs made no effort to apologize or even control conference guests interfering with hotel guests!

Overall the property offers decent value for the price and being a smaller property it provides a more intimate personalized style of service that the larger assembly line properties cannot maintain!

Le Meridien Marriott Hotel made an offer too good to refuse.

We needed to spend the weekend in Panama City. Unfortunately, our usual choices of hotels were all very expensive for the time of our visit.

The surprise was the unbelievably low rate at the Le Meridien Hotel.

We had a high floor, ocean view room. Very large and spacious. The bathroom had two sinks, a huge shower, and a Jacuzzi bathtub.

The two-room suite allowed me to be on the computer working while my wife could relax and sleep peacefully in the adjoining room. We appreciate having the separate living room, from the bedroom, as it offers a more "homelike" feel to the hotel room.

The staff was friendly and efficient. Housekeeping was a new "in training" person, who did an excellent job of cleaning our room.

The hotel is conveniently located on Balboa Ave. Cintas Costera is easily accessible for those who would enjoy a healthy walk along the Bay of Panama.

Plenty of great restaurants are within easy walking distance from the hotel as are most of the major banks.

The Iglesia del Carmen subway station is less than a fifteen-minute walk from the hotel.

There is free on-site parking available.

The hotel has a Spa but we did not use this service this trip.

The pictures of this hotel are misleading, it’s actually very dated with severe water damage throughout, and the rooms are similarly dated and worn. It’s also very dark. The pool was non functional with a huge layer of dirt in the bottom, and there are all kinds of minor issues that add up: no towels in the workout or pool area, nothing to wipe machines down, no access to coffee, lukewarm water in the bathroom with limited pressure, and if you are an “elite” member with club lounge privileges, you’ll again find no coffee, very limited and begrudging access to water, and not much else. I would not have stayed here if I’d known what to expect. The staff were okay, some were nice, but we also never got our room cleaned during our stay.

The pictures the have on the website are totally misleading. This is NOT a five star or a four star hotel it’s more like a two star.

When checking they tried charging me again and I had already prepaid the room. If I had not prepaid I was have gone to another hotel! The people were kind, but the service is slow and awful. The place is understaffed and they don't pick up the phone when you call from the room to order something. I expect a five star international hotel to have a professional staff that includes speaking English. The bartender could not make a proper drink, because he didn’t know English. I after two tries and translating it to Spanish I just ordered wine.

Our upgraded room, I am a Gold Status Member, was a second floor ocean/parking lot view over a major thoroughfare and above valet parking. Extremely noise to say the least. We were able to purchase ear plugs at the Pharmacia. Our Deluxe Room, which we original booking, listed the amenities as a separate shower and tub. We didn’t see a tub!

There was no sheet on the bed. I waited in the lobby for 20 minutes to get pool towels and a sheet for the bed which we had to make ourselves. Then the next day housekeeping took the sheet off again and we had to order another sheet.

The place is in need of desperate repairs. And the ice maker does not work. No turndown service or international newspapers.

The photos are leading and it is a six story hotel that sits under a 30+ condo building. The pool is tiny and in the shade and the fitness room is a joke.

Additionally they were doing construction right outside the front door of the hotel which made for noise, a mess, and difficulty getting in and out of the hotel. We also received a notice that our water would be shut off one day.

Let me hit the highlights: Great A/C (Although no A/C on the elevators, 90+ degrees in March), clean rooms, and a smoke free hotel. They were also kind enough to make me a caesar chicken salad, which was very good, before lunch had stated because we had a tour to catch.

This hotel was booked as part of a tour that we took in Panama. I wasn’t aware that we would be staying in two hotels until a couple days before the trip - this was the hotel I didn’t know about.

Pros:

The staff was nice and the food was good. The hotel is centrally located. It was a $3 Uber ride to Old Town and a 10 minute walk to the mall, Little Caesar’s, Papa John’s and a grocery store. It was also really close to the casino.

Cons:

The hotel smelled bad on the room levels. Upon exiting the elevator, I was hit with a moldy/mildew smell and it penetrated the mask. The room smelled just as bad. I called my friends who were on another floor and asked if their rooms smelled and it did. I bought some air fresheners for the room and it helped some. When I took a shower on the first night, I believe there was mold/mildew in the stall. It was confusing because, at first, I thought it apart of the shower design, but in visiting my friend’s room I could tell that it was not. I wanted to change hotels to the Hilton down the street but with the curfew and tour activities, it was not feasible.

There’s a 10pm curfew in Panama due to Covid.

Hotel drinks and food are pricey, it’ll be cheaper, Uber included, to find a restaurant nearby.

Note: breakfast is a buffet, but you are required to wear gloves and masks while serving yourself. If you are wary of buffet, it does provide a little comfort but it negated by the fact that you can reuse the gloves (some people are with their gloves on).

Lastly, American Express I’m not widely accepted in Panama. The hotels take it but not the shops/restaurants. Some may take it but you have to let them know you’re using AMEX and they’ll get a different card reader.

I normally do not take the time to write a review of a lackluster or poor experience, however given my check in experience for a pre-cruise stay at Le Meridien I am making time today. In short, we arrived just before the check in time and were told that rooms were not ready yet, but we were being upgraded so we figured that would be a benefit. However after waiting an hour, having a couple of drinks, and watching others, who arrived after us, receiving their rooms, I became quite frustrated. The young lady at the front desk said she tried to talk to housekeeping but they would not give a ready time so there was nothing else she could do. I emphasized that we were now waiting for an upgraded room, that we didn't even ask for, while others are being checked right in. She offered free breakfast in the morning however only for one person. My response "My husband has been waiting with me, however only 1 person can eat for free?". Her response "Yes." to which I asked to speak to a manager.

The manager later came out and also apologized for our wait. She at least offered breakfast for 2 instead of just 1 of us and immediately looked for an available room on her laptop. At this point we had watched maybe 3 other couples arrive after us but be checked in. After asking the manager for any room at this point (at least the level of which we booked) she "found" one which, once we walked into it, appeared to be an upgraded room. Which had no soap and only one washcloth. Upon entering the space and putting my things down I immediately cancelled my post cruise stay and booked at the Waldorf around the corner (which had outstanding service, despite them also being fully booked).

I debate the motivation of the staff in having us wait so long vs exercising common sense in the moment. Most likely they gave our room to someone else and used an upgrade as a way to placate us to wait. Unfortunately it failed, especially given our long travel day, and watching others check in before us. I normally don't need to throw my hotel reward status and frequent Marriott usage around but I felt we were mistreated by the front desk staff and I'm still not sure if it were on purpose. I ensured to provide a similar review to Marriot as well because I expect more from such properties, and have experienced better service. Even the free breakfast buffet for 2 was lackluster and not worth the compensation.

Despite all this, those working in the restaurant and bar were kind and attentive. Unfortunately this didn't translate to that front desk, at least not for my husband and I. I appreciate the manager finally making things right, however it should have not needed to make it to her in the first place.

Good morning Mrs Yolanda D: Thank you for taking the time to detail your experiences during your stay at the hotel. Prior to your message, our FO Manager told us about your case so that it does not happen again. We understand that your priority was rest, not an upgrade. Thank you again and we hope you allow us to receive you again.

I’ve stayed at this hotel 4 times over the last 2 years, and every time I wonder if I would not be better off somewhere else. Invariably, I come to the same answer: I stay at this hotel simply because of its location right across from the boardwalk (“Cinta Costera”). It is an absolute delight to wake up every morning before sunrise and head out for a walk along the Cinta Costera toward the old town.

Even though the hotel is located on Avenida Balboa (one of the busiest roads in Panama City),
I’ve never had any issues with the street noise. The rooms are decently sized, with good desks, plenty of outlets and thick blackout curtains. The gym (located in a former guestroom, 201) is also reasonably sized, albeit with limited machines and free-weights.

Now, why do I wonder if I shouldn’t be staying somewhere else:
1) Service across the board (front desk, room service, restaurant) can be hit or miss, but lately more on the “miss” side. Slow, unfriendly and with plenty of room for improvement.
2) The breakfast offering is pretty limited, and the coffee served is particularly bad.
3) The menu at the restaurant is also fairly limited and not particularly interesting. Luckily, Azahar (an outstanding restaurant) is only 2 blocks away.
4) Lastly, the hotel is showing its age and could really do with a refurbishment. It is not a hip / trendy hotel and the rooftop swimming pool is just a tad bigger than a postage stamp.

Where will I stay next time I go to Panama? Probably Le Meridien.

We booked a 3 night stay through Booking.com. When we checked in, the front desk allowed us to add my husband's Marriott platinum number to the reservation. We were upgraded to a beautiful, spacious suite with a view of the bay. The front desk associate, Dahlia, offered additional assistance in terms of an amenity kit (lost bag at airport) and quick service on a dripping air conditioner unit. The concierge service assisted in hiring a skillful driver to take us to Gamboa Rainforest. (Panama traffic is frightening even by NYC standards; we were very glad to have Alexis behind the wheel). The hotel restaurant, Saril, offers a well crafted and diverse menu of beautifully presented dishes. Our server, Samuel, was professional, friendly, and very attentive. We were so happy with our first evening's meal, we decided to eat in this restaurant again another night. We were able to present our compliments to the chef, Alyssa. We enjoyed our experience at Le Meridien and would stay here again.

Hands down 5 stars. From the bell hop to the management, everyone was so kind and very helpful. Jennifer at the front desk helped us with everything we needed and Bryan the other front desk agent gave us info about the whole area and even guided us to a local restaurant because we could not find it. Everyone speaks English and everyone goes out of their way to make sure you have a great experience.
