Room is clean and comfy with comprehensive amenities. Love the space and the view from my room. Of course, the key difference is that everything else in the room is clearly priced and charged, lacking that touch vs some of the boutique local hotels. Well.. not a big deal for me though. A good view from the lounge showcasing the night and full view of Potala Palace.
Good spread of breakfast with a good mix of international options. This is a + point vs some of the local hotels that serves mainly chinese food.
The only slight disappointment is that the food served at Yan Ting Tibet is not as fantastic vs that served in Singapore. But nonetheless, a pretty good experience.
It was a welcome respite getting back to a truly great property and with 5 star service.
The Front Manager, Stanley Tenzint, was so on top of everything. The small pool was being repaired so he offered to have a car take us to a nearby hotel where we could swim and exercise! Being Titanium with Bonvoy, they also bumped us up to an amazing suite that had to be at least 80 square meters and fit for royalty! Every day, we saw Stanley moving around and ready to assist in anything.
Glen Zhou was another great Manager during breakfast. He was always attentive and runs a tight ship in the breakfast area.
The staff in housekeeping, the breakfast area and everywhere I encountered anyone was just great.
On the negative side, the only thing I can think of is that there is no physical fitness area (gym), nor is there a pool for swimming laps. The grounds are huge and magnificent so they should build in a pool/gym. As we use those facilities, I may try the one other 5 star hotel in Lhasa if we go back. But if a pool and gym is not a necessity, the St. Regis is the place to go!!
1. We look forward to a delicate afternoon tea, while we see other guest got the same one showed on the package advertisement, we got a shrunk one after 20 minutes of the order. The answer to this is: we provide shrunk one for the package. Ok, if so, why not mentioned in the advertisement? We booked 2 rooms for this, and the compensation provided is: only 1 dinner buffet, do you think we are beggars? for sure, we refused.
2. The temperature of the hot water is far below comfortable, I can describe as cold, should this be a problem for a luxury hotel like Regis? I doubt.
3. Welcome fruit is in bad condition.
4. After I wrote a review, the reply is, we are sorry, we will improve, well, by reading other reviews, I know this will never happen.
5. since the room is quite near the street, traffic noise stays the whole night.
Decorations are nice, the only thing I feel satisfied with.
So, my comments are: never stay at this hotel, they will never expect you will return, so they will never treat you well.
Later the hotel has modified my reservation to a 21-day in advance cancellation policy without my permission.
The hotel had asked a direct wire to the hotel's account instead of authorization despite a valid card is stored in my Marriott account, and threatens me had I not wired the money, which is non-refundable 21 days in advance, they will cancel my reservation on their own.
I received a call from the hotel and the manager shouted at me that He does not need to explain why the hotel's policy is against group's policy and I do not need to know.
A complaint has been sent to Marriot and waiting for their judgement.
And this is the hotel you are going to stay in. I would strongly recommend your second thoughts.
