The Marriot Group never disappoint. There was an initial hiccups when checking in but was resolved quickly. Staff are generally friendly and professional, reservation for spa and restaurants is seamless and fast.

Room is clean and comfy with comprehensive amenities. Love the space and the view from my room. Of course, the key difference is that everything else in the room is clearly priced and charged, lacking that touch vs some of the boutique local hotels. Well.. not a big deal for me though. A good view from the lounge showcasing the night and full view of Potala Palace.

Good spread of breakfast with a good mix of international options. This is a + point vs some of the local hotels that serves mainly chinese food.

The only slight disappointment is that the food served at Yan Ting Tibet is not as fantastic vs that served in Singapore. But nonetheless, a pretty good experience.

My wife and I finished a 16 day private tour of Tibet going all the way West, then up North and back East to Lhasa.
It was a welcome respite getting back to a truly great property and with 5 star service.
The Front Manager, Stanley Tenzint, was so on top of everything. The small pool was being repaired so he offered to have a car take us to a nearby hotel where we could swim and exercise! Being Titanium with Bonvoy, they also bumped us up to an amazing suite that had to be at least 80 square meters and fit for royalty! Every day, we saw Stanley moving around and ready to assist in anything.

Glen Zhou was another great Manager during breakfast. He was always attentive and runs a tight ship in the breakfast area.

The staff in housekeeping, the breakfast area and everywhere I encountered anyone was just great.

On the negative side, the only thing I can think of is that there is no physical fitness area (gym), nor is there a pool for swimming laps. The grounds are huge and magnificent so they should build in a pool/gym. As we use those facilities, I may try the one other 5 star hotel in Lhasa if we go back. But if a pool and gym is not a necessity, the St. Regis is the place to go!!

Overall, our stay here was fantastic. We were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a suite, which had a spacious layout and offered a lovely view, excellent amenities, including an oxygen machine and humidifier. We thoroughly enjoyed the semi-buffet breakfast, which catered to both us and our international friends with its wide variety of options. The Chinese restaurant also impressed us with its delicious food. In the evening, the bar provided a unique view of the palace. However, it seemed that the staff were a bit short-handed, possibly due to Tibetan New Year. It was challenging to reach the front desk and our butler, and we found the restaurant space to be a bit small. We would suggest improving the hotel's ventilation, as the closed windows exacerbated our altitude sickness, causing noticeable discomfort upon returning to the hotel after being out.

We bought a package with afternoon tea to stay in last week with expectation. However, far below our expectations.
1. We look forward to a delicate afternoon tea, while we see other guest got the same one showed on the package advertisement, we got a shrunk one after 20 minutes of the order. The answer to this is: we provide shrunk one for the package. Ok, if so, why not mentioned in the advertisement? We booked 2 rooms for this, and the compensation provided is: only 1 dinner buffet, do you think we are beggars? for sure, we refused.
2. The temperature of the hot water is far below comfortable, I can describe as cold, should this be a problem for a luxury hotel like Regis? I doubt.
3. Welcome fruit is in bad condition.
4. After I wrote a review, the reply is, we are sorry, we will improve, well, by reading other reviews, I know this will never happen.
5. since the room is quite near the street, traffic noise stays the whole night.

Decorations are nice, the only thing I feel satisfied with.

So, my comments are: never stay at this hotel, they will never expect you will return, so they will never treat you well.

I booked the hotel via Marriott and the cancelling policy is 24 hours in advance.
Later the hotel has modified my reservation to a 21-day in advance cancellation policy without my permission.

The hotel had asked a direct wire to the hotel's account instead of authorization despite a valid card is stored in my Marriott account, and threatens me had I not wired the money, which is non-refundable 21 days in advance, they will cancel my reservation on their own.

I received a call from the hotel and the manager shouted at me that He does not need to explain why the hotel's policy is against group's policy and I do not need to know.

A complaint has been sent to Marriot and waiting for their judgement.

And this is the hotel you are going to stay in. I would strongly recommend your second thoughts.

Response from Carol Xu, General Manager at The St. Regis Lhasa Resort
Responded 2 Aug 2022
We are sorry that this guest was not able to stay at our hotel. We would advise this guest to provide a valid credit card when making a hotel reservation in the future. If a guest provided an invalid credit card on reservation, we would always make every effort to contact the guest to provide another form of payment, such as a credit card, or a bank transfer for a deposit. Unfortunately, when this customer refused to provide a valid form of payment, we would indeed be forced to cancel of the reservation. We at the St. Regis Lhasa Resort devotes our utmost attention to give our esteemed guests the best possible service, even at the reservation stage. Our results speak for themselves and we know that honest feedbacks from our valued guests are the best form of validation. We hope the best for this guest going forward. Sincerely, Carol Xu, General Manager

This was one of the worst experiences I had ever encountered in staying with a hotel, especially with a hotel of this status. The service we have received was terrible right from the hotel entry point. The concierge staff was impolite towards our luggage and there was rooms types mixed up upon check in. When confronted with these issues, the hotel staff simply told us to 'sort it out ourselves'. We are a party mainly consist of elderly, to ask them to carry their own luggage up a flight of stairs at 3900m altitude should not happen at any hotel. Furthermore, electrical defects were found in the rooms. When confronted with the staff initially, staff showed indifferent attitudes towards our issues and insist they had done no wrong. This is simply not the customer service any hotel should give, especially with a 5 star luxury hotel. At the end, we have decided not to stay at this hotel.

We stayed at the St Regis ten years ago for our wedding anniversary, and we decided to return with our teenage children. The hotel has been maintained well, public areas looked welcoming and lovely, though the rooms showed a bit of age in their furniture and carpeting. Perhaps the biggest complaint I had was the smell of cigarette smoke in my kids’ room, which housekeeping tried to address multiple times but to no avail. But other than that we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights there. Breakfast buffet was something to look forward to with great selection of Chinese and western choices. We ate at the Chinese restaurant one evening and thought the food was really good, though a little on the pricey side. The spa was serene and relaxing. Concierge service was friendly and efficient. We just hope it won’t take another ten years to return to this wonderful property.

This was a very nice hotel. Old style and beautiful building. The front desk was limited on speaking English, but someone would show up and help with language. The restaurant manager was great, very kind and was always making sure I had everything I needed and he spoke English very well. I enjoyed speaking with the Chef Dony, excellent food and he spoke English very well. I think it was Stanley who was helpful touring the hotel and room.

Had a great stay, from seamless check-in to the spacious rooms, great dining options and general friendliness of every staff member. Breakfast and also buffet for dinner was plentiful, with local and Western options alike. Attentive service, and we also tried the bars on 6th floor with incredible views of the Potala Palace and mountains. You can also walk to Old Town from the hotel and explore if you have time before departure day. Clean rooms and good wifi as well, we stayed 3 nights total and highly recommend!

My wife and I were part of a National Geographic “Around the World” tour this past December/January. On our stop in Tibet, January 10th and 11th, we stayed at the St. Regis Lhasa Resort. During our visit, a gentleman named Tuk Gurung was our server both days. Although we enjoyed our entire experience at the St. Regis, we were especially impressed by Tuk’s attention to detail, anticipation of our needs, and the unwavering politeness that he offered us and the entire group. I hope this review finds its way back to Tuk as an encouragement and thank you for his outstanding work ethic and professionalism.
