It was a 3 person room with 3 single beds. Good thing was very spacious comparatively speaking in HK standard. Decoration and facilities were old and needed renovation. But after renovation, the price may shoot up. So give and take here.
Moderate (at least 15 min) distance walk to Prince Edward MTR or Mong Kok East MTR. Same as 15 min walk to major bus stops (cross harbour bus). No direct public transit from airport. Better to take taxi door to door from airport which cost about HKD 250-300; ok if share by 3 people. Nice upper middle class neighbourhood. Right behind St. Thersa Church. Good for daily mass for devoted Catholics. Flower market and bird garden on the way to Prince Edward MTR.

Caritas Lodge was excellent value for money. Our room was spacious enough by Hong Kong standards, and contained a safe as well as a fridge and television (local channels only, including two English ones). The breakfast was good, with a number of choices, and it was a buffet on Saturday and Sunday. There was a library on the premises where we could use the internet, and the room had a window that could be opened - a big plus for us. The free newspaper, The Standard, was available in the lobby - generally hard to find in Kowloon. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The location is not particularly interesting, but there are bus stops nearby with regular buses to other areas, and there is a large mall within close walking distance.

When we paid the bill the expected 10% service charge was not added on, which was a significant saving.

We stayed at two hotels in Hong Kong and this was definitely the better of the two and at about two thirds the price. We will definitely stay here when we return to Hong Kong.

This is a small, clean and friendly hostel in Kowloon Tong, an area known to locals for its low rise homes and wealthy residents - who included film star Bruce Lee. Away from the main hotspots of the territory the area nevertheless has some fascinating sights including Yau Yat Chuen, the Bird Market and the Flower Market all within a few minutes walk. Access to downtown is most easily gained by the number 104 bus next to the hotel and which runs an express service to Wanchai and Central.

Rooms are clean and cable internet is free. The cafe is worth a particular mention as it offers what must be some of the best value meals in the city with soup and main dish combos a delicious bargain at around $US5. Nearby on Boundary Road two gas stations contain convenience stores for snacks and drinks while nearby Prince Edward Road ( with the MTR) offers dozens of local eating and shopping opportunities. A different side of Hong Kong with a more local flvour and well worth trying out.

We were in this hotel in April/2011, Oct/2011 and Dec /2012. stayed their in triple room paid weekly rate as HK$3750.00 per week. I had wrote one review about this hotel dated July/2012 strongly recommended for this hotel my heading was "Comfortable reasonable & affordable hotel with fresh air in residential area".

But since after this hotel shoot up their price; they are no longer offer weekly & monthly rate. Price for small room is HK$800.00 & up per night & triple room is HK$1000.00 & Up per night; due to their high price; I would not recommend this hotel anymore.

I would recommend Cosmo Hotel located in Nathan Rd and Benito Hotel in Tsim Sha sui with the same price for convenience shopping and dining..

Provided you are not expecting five star luxury, and you're happy to use the very convenient buses or walk ten minutes to the nearest MTR, then Caritas Lodge must be the best value in Hong Kong! It cost us just £50 per night for the two of us, including breakfast.

The rooms are not large, but neither are they too small. The staff are absolutely excellent. For example, one evening we happened to mention to the restaurant manager that our room overlooking Boundary Street was rather noisy; immediately, of his own volition, he phoned reception to see if there was a room free on the other side of the building. There was and we were moved immediately. Then, on our last evening, when we asked what time breakfast starts, as we had to leave the hotel at 06.30, they said that was too early for breakfast but they arranged a packed breakfast for us to take to the airport.

Just across the road is a bus stop which is very convenient indeed, and just around the corner on Prince Edward Road there is a bus that goes down Nathan Road as far as the Star Ferry. The bus services are excellent.

Although breakfast is rather limited (we didn't mind as we don't eat a large breakfast) the evening meals are surprisingly good, and typically cost only HK$60 (or five pounds) for a soup, a main course and tea or coffee; highly recommended!

There laundry service is superb! They go on weight, 5 kilos of washing only costing HK$30, or £2.50, which must be the best value laundry I've ever experienced in any hotel. In the 'posh' hotels in Kowloon you can't even get one shirt washed for that!

The hotel is linked to the Church. The policy is to offer jobs to those in need, emotionally or financially, or who have some other problems. To me this adds to the charm of the place, knowing the hotel is doing good in the community.

It is such good value, and the staff are so pleasant and helpful, I can recommend this hotel 100%! But do ask for a room at the rear of the building! When we left we rather missed the Caritas!

Also the location in Kowloon Tong is excellent. This is a very upmarket residential area, with very few high rise buildings. Kowloon Tong used to be the smartest area in Kowloon with large individual houses. It is still very upmarket, and very different from the other areas in Hong Kong which have mushroomed with high rise. There is a good shopping centre called MoKo next to the Mon Kok East railway station, which is around 10 minutes walk away.

Husband & I had been stayed in Caritas Lodge 1 week in the month of April/2011 & 1 week in the month of Oct./2011 twice last years. We required & paid for the triple room instead of double room due to their triple room is much spacious. Triple room is very clean has 3 comfortable single beds plus living room with sofa, coffee table, TV, refrigerator & air conditioning plus lots of windows you could open if you want fresh air & also facing at the back less noisy. Furniture were dated but is well equipped. Bath room is small but clean has bath tub with shower head. Hotel is located in up scale residential area & wealth school district for elementary & high school. In the morning you will see a lots of school kids in the street but in the evening is very quiet. Their restaurant offered good tasty western & Chinese breakfast. As hotel guests you will have 20% off from their restaurant menu.

Prince Edward MRT & Mong Kok MRT is about 15 minutes walk. Prince Edward shopping mall is about 10 minutes walk, lots of restaurants & shops along Prince Edward Rd all the way to Nathan Rd. You will see lots of shops everywhere.

Take A1 bus in Prince Edward Rd, the bus will travel to Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei , Jordan & Tsim Sha Tsui, these 4 areas were the tourist areas very convenience for shopping.

We enjoyed staying in Cartias Lodge, husband & I had already booked the triple room for Dec/2012. Hong Kong hotel & hostel are very expenses, it is very hard to find any hotels & hostels will able to offer me comfortable clean room but affordable price in up scale residential area with fresh air.

This place has GOOD, OK & Ugly qualities. The place does not have a slum feel about it at all unlike some of the cheaper accommodations in Hong Kong! So let's begin with the Good, OK and finish with the ugly :-)

GOOD - The rooms were cleaned everyday.

Receptionists are friendly, smiley, helpful, speaks english & knowledgeable about their local surroundings ie. where to catch the bus, what route to walk, where is the trains etc.

Breakfast was good! It's not buffet style, they provide a set a-la-carte menu that you can choose from. The food in the Chinese & Noodle style breakfast that is available is fantastic - its better than or equivalent to some of the best foods I've tasted in dim sim restaurants in Australia.

OK - bathrooms are very very small, you need to be able to function in tiny areas. The green walls and low ceilings give it a not-so clean feel (they are cleaned everyday with the provision of fresh towels).

Ugly - get ready those walking shoes! The nearest MTR station (Prince Edward MTR) is about a good 20+mins walk (reasonable pace) away. You can stop along the shops to make the walk more pleasant! The nearest KCR/ subway (Mongkok East KCR) is about a 10mins walk.

Highly recommend that you take the longer walk to the MTR as its easier to change lines for train transfers. The KCR - train changes required; more complicated, time taken will be worst than the long walk to the MTR.

this is not about a room; it is about not being able to get a room! I have tried to book this hotel and no matter what dates I select, there is no availability - is this for real? the location is good and I have heard good things about the hotel, and am eager to try it out ,,,,,,,,,,if only I can book it!

It is a very peaceful place to stay when I enter to this mini-hotel. During the stay, everything is fine and the service is good as well. For the restaurant, it seems like a in house cha-chan-ting which can feeling with the real hong kong style that causal and fast speed. For the location is not really nice since need to walk around 10 minutes far from the metro station and that is very silent during the night time. In addition, as locating in the living area, there is not much shops for meal or convince store.

I was in Caritas Lodge for 7 nights in a single room during April 2014.
The hotel is clean, small Shower but was clean. Room has a safe.
Breakfast is NOT a buffet and waitress brings your order (from 3 options) to your table. Quiet minimum breakfast but enough to keep you for 2-3 hours until lunch.
Main problem with hotel is location which is out of center and needed 15-20 mins walk to the closest Metro station (HK has a GREAT Metro system!).
Personal in reception ALWAYS gave me answers to all question about the city and were very helpful.
I wish they had MTV channel (only news channels in English!).
One issue I had is while going one morning to breakfast and left "DO NOT DISTURB" sign to my door and returned back to room and it was cleaned and found the Samsung charger broken by the cleaning lady! Manager was very nice and got me new charger, As I told the manager, my issue wasn't the broken charger but the idea that even when you put "DO NOT DISTURB" sign they allow themselves to Disturb and go into the room!
