Booked a 3D2N between 29 and 31 July to celebrate three birthdays in one go. I was expecting this relatively ‘aging’ hotel to have outdated decor everywhere, but I was so wrong. The overall architecture and interior still stand the test of time, and everything that can be refurbished has been refurbished. The lobby was both grand and exotic, spacious and tropical-like at the same time. The coconut and palm trees in the surrounding make it feel very much like a Thai resort/hotel.
The Premier Seaview Room with Balcony is so roomy that it could fit at least four single bed, so there is room for even running round. The balcony is great for sunset appreciation. There was a slight problem with the bathtub drain stopper as it could not open to drain the water, but a spoon did the job. BTW, this is so far the only hotel I have visited that has a fridge that works properly.
Dinner buffet was a pleasant surprise. Apart from the usual seafood that most hotel buffets offer, Café Lagoon has many nostalgic local Hong Kong snacks and desserts. Fun is not a word that usually collocates with buffet, but it does at Café Lagoon. Food quality ranged from above-average to high. Weekend dinner buffet even serves suckling pigs!
Breakfast buffet at Café Lagoon also shows how logistics is carefully thought out. Other than the café itself, the nearby Chinese restaurant Yue and the lobby café area on the ground floor are also used to accommodate the patrons. Impressive! Staff were quick to clear used plates from tables and were always friendly.
On day 1, we were unlucky because we only had five minutes to enjoy the outdoor pool before the thunderstorm warning was issued, but the beach was just 10m away, and we settled for some beach time as backup. On day 2, we finally truly broke the curse and had the chance to enjoy some swimming pool time (had not been able to use any swimming pools for our last 4-5 hotel staycations due to, well, thunderstorm warnings). Kids enjoyed the water slides very much, and it was great that life-jackets were available in large numbers so that parents need not worry about not bringing their own. The only thing that needs to be improved is the long waiting time to scan LeaveHomeSafe QR code before entering the pool. Outside the pool, there are also many water fun sprinklers where young children can play together. In short, there are multiple options in case of bad weather.
There are also many in-hotel activities for hotel patrons. There is a children’s playroom (paid by the session with multiple keen staff safeguarding your children’s safety), a gym, some board games for free rental, large outdoor international chessboard, as well as free farm tours. There is also a large outdoor parking-meter car park right outside the hotel, the Gold Coast Piazza right beside the hotel with cafes, restaurants and a large supermarket. Simply put, one does not need to go far to gain access to everything needed.
Overall, our stay in this hotel resembles a real getaway experience.

The best place to celebrate a special occasion. Staycation in this time of restricted travel. Great atmosphere, polite staff and good food. Complimentary masks and sanitizers would have made up for the non availability of other amenities such as the gym or pool.

Living on HK island, Tuen Mun was far enough to feel like I’m traveling for a long weekend retreat. I stayed here for 3 nights.

This hotel reminds me of going back in time with its exteriors, maybe in the 70s and I can imagine how luxurious it was back in the day. Present day, it’s fairly well looked after but what I love about it is how environmentally conscious it is run. They have 2x water dispensers on each floor with glass pitcher in each room to avoid use of plastic bottles, sheets are changed every 2 days, roof and surrounding gardens, solar panels, and recycling initiatives. Overall, it’s quiet and it does have a resort feel to it.

Staff are all very friendly and polite. Due to COVID I didn’t get to enjoy the hotel facilities but there’s a running track along the beach if you want to stay active. Having a sea view room with balcony was lovely, you could hear birds chirping, sound of the waves from the beach, view of the sunset. The hotel food is OK only but it’s 5 mins walk from the Gold Coast Piazza with access to different restaurants, pharmacy, 7-11 and grocery.

Nice stay for a long weekend retreat, would’ve been perfect if the pool and beaches were open!

To the management: Be great if you could also put a “No Smoking” sign in the bathrooms as some guests seem to be smoking in there and it seeps through the vents into other rooms. They throw their cigarette butts on the balcony.

Thanks for an enjoyable and affordable stay.

U can feel that the overall staff customer service is low compared to any other Hk hotels. Starting from check in customer service, the staff didn’t even provide any basic information such as breakfast location or facilities until we asked. Room has no provision of bottle water which u need to take the jar and go all the way to lift lobby to get. U can find dusts and stains everywhere in the room. In the morning, we went breakfast and were away from table for less than 5 mins, all our food (all plates filled with food and juices were full) were cleaned up and our personal belonging was thrown away to the bin, explanation was the staff is new. I feel totally shocking, what’s the point of having the sign on the table stating the table is in use? Not recommended to anyone has normal expectations to hotel, feel more like guesthouse service. We came here for the pool (with no food or beverage served) and kids facilities, but other than that not recommended to anyone to go as staycation price is very competitive now, you get get much better with this price around.

I stayed here for one night with my 8 year old and my husband. We did our research before we arrived and knew that we had to arrive early, register immediately for swimming pool sessions, and then we could relax and enjoy the resort.

The pool sessions are for 1h 45m each, playroom sessions are 45 minutes each and zip line sessions are 2 round trips per child. As an eight year old, my son had the most fun at the pool because the kids in the play room were mostly toddlers. The zip line is fun if you’ve never tried it but because it’s built for young children it wasn’t much of a thrill for my son but he still had fun. The slides in splash pads were unfortunately closed due to government regulations.

We had lunch at the Satay Inn which was good especially since in-house guests get 20% off. We arrived at breakfast at 8am next day and the restaurant was empty but by the time we left the restaurant was completely packed, nearly every table had toddlers or kids.

The hotel is located right next to a beautiful beach but we didn’t have time to visit the beach.

Service from the front desk, housekeeping, wait staff, swimming pool attendants, sports center employees were all very professional, friendly and polite. Although they were overwhelmed at times as it was a public holiday it seemed they were well prepared for the crowds.

We thought we had a good deal because the rooms were spacious, service was good and there were sufficient activities for eight-year-old during our stay.

Smooth check in with Orion who upgraded us to a premium room. I love room 604 with the yacht view from the balcony. Just too bad due to covid most of the kids facilities were closed as well as the pool.Clean rooms and really spacious bathroom. My kid enjoyed the big tub!We used to stay here long time ago and now glad to see that the hotel is more eco-friendly with bath and shampoo dispensers instead of individual packs PLUS great drinking water dispensers available on every floor for general use. They provide carafes for u to fill in and store water in the room. Probably need a bigger one though as not enough for a family of 3, had to make many trips to the dispensers near the lifts daily. The dispensers states how much bottle saved in every use. Really savig earth a lot. Im surprised guests do not have f&b discounts while buffet breakfast was only so so not much of a variety and no bircher muesli (sad) but this is just a minor flaw. We will be back soon in June for my husband’s bday so hoping to enjoy more.

With the virus issue would put us at ease if they do say somewhere in the room that things like remote controls/hones are well sanitized.

My family and I stayed here for two nights midweek for a staycation. We booked a balcony room so we could sit outside while our baby slept. The room was very large and pretty clean. There is a shower and a separate bath tub and basic toiletries were included.

The main draw of this hotel is the location and the resort-style pool. At the moment due to COVID-19 you need to book a pool slot each day but if they aren't busy they let you in if it isn't full. The children's Poole want open due to restrictions but the adult pool is very good for kids.

We had breakfast included in our booking and the selection was good with a mix of Asian and Western dishes. The staff at the breakfast were very accommodating and didn't mind that our daughter made a big mess. They even came over and played with her.

Overall the hotel is good value for money and it really feels like you are outside of Hong Kong. There are some restaurants and shops within walking distance and even a large beach across the street if you get tired of the pool

From the check in to checkout we had a wonderful 2 night 3 day stay stay at this hotel and would thoroughly recommend this to anyone with kids

The service was excellent, from the front desk team, facilities team to the staff in the restaurants and it truly felt like kids (and not just ours) were welcome and were having loads of fun throughout the hotel as there were many adventures for the kids to do around the hotel.

We booked one of the slightly larger rooms and though decor is simple, it is large, clean and the view is amazing. We also had a large balcony and were able to sit out there at night while the children slept and enjoy the view with a glass of wine. Peaceful and comfortable.

The bed was comfy and the room was big enough for us to bring a tent for our 4yo daughter to sleep in and have her own space which she LOVED (adorned with fairy lights too)

The bathroom had a bath and separate shower and the wife and I were able to shower and bath our children at the same time which was also helpful. There were also lots of power points and this allowed us to plug in our electronics easily. TV had kids channels (but most cartoons were in Cantonese) but alleviated by plugging in our Google TV.
The fridge is a little small but the staff were great at delivering ice when we needed.

We booked the pool each day and it is a very kid friendly pool. Booking allows you and the family to stay at the pool for 1.5 hours which in our opinion was more than enough for our kids to burn off some energy. We also used the playroom which is bookable and was a lot of fun for our 4 and 1yo. We also went looking for the butterfly "park" but turns out it is more a butterfly inspired outdoor garden with certain plant species planted to attract butterflies. A nice idea, but no butterflies there during our visit.

There were multiple restaurant options and we ended up trying all of them on our 3 day stay. Satay Inn was excellent with wonderful Singaporean Cuisine, Cafe Lagoon did a great Buffet at night and this is also where breakfast was served each day and the lobby lounge was also good for a giant Chocolate sundae treat of the final day. Each restaurant had excellent variety, high quality food and the service was very good. Best of all all of these restaurants had options for kids!

The only room for improvement for me would be the following; the staff only gave us 2 towels for the family each day, but could see we were a family of 4. A bit weird but were happy to drop off 2 extra each day on request. Also the coffee at breakfast was a bit grim, but there is a very good coffee shop at the piazza (for the coffee snobs among us)

The Piazza also has a well stocked Marketplace, multiple restaurant options and is only a 10 min walk away.

We will certainly be back, and would highly recommend this hotel.

I went there to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday as a staycation over the weekend. I call a few weeks in advance to request for a quiet room and higher storey, the customer service said it depends on the availability on the day, fair enough. Then I ask if there’s any surprise gift for birthday like a complimentary drink, then she said it’s not available if you don’t book it on the official website, really?

So when I check in on the day, the whole experience was catastrophic. I was given a low storey room, with a view of the parking lot, wow, how romantic. We can spend our night watching cars driving in and out. Then, I went through the room and found out there’s no razor and bathing robe, I thought that’s some basic stuff to hand out in a hotel, but apparently not this one. So I called the customer service and it took them 2 hours for a razor. So I spent for $1000 for a 2 star service.

Checking out is a big bummer, when everyone check out at 12, it takes 10 minutes to go up to the topmost storey to the lobby. So all the elevators stops at every floor, so I have to go up to the top stoey, stopping every floor on the way up then stop every floor on the way down in order to check out. Great planning indeed.

In conclusion, whatever you want is either they don’t have it or they don’t provide it because they simply don’t care about your experience at the hotel.

I spent a weekend at the Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel for a staycation as I got a discount coupon from Amex. Here is my review of the stay.

>> Location (3): As the hotel is located at the sea side along Castle Peak Road, it is not a very convenient location and it needs a short walk to and from the nearest bus stop, or some HK$40 taxi ride to the MTR Tuen Mun Station. It is next to the Golden Beach so it is convenient for swimming and tanning. There was a small path for guests to walk to the nearby shopping and dining area, although there were only limited shops and food options.

>> Environment (5): The room faces the southeastern side, with a sea view and I can see the Pearl Island (which is a residential cluster). The hotel maintained a good environment such as the pool and gardens.

>> Service (2): The staff members were nice and friendly in general. The major issue that drove me nuts was queuing for minor issues which were so inefficient. Can't book the swimming pool at the concierge nor through the hotline. Lots of guests queued up for registration while mixing with those waiting for their swimming session at the pool counter. Many moms and kids waited for some 30-45 minutes under hot weather as they wished to register for the swimming sessions which was quite unpleasant. No eye-catching location for breakfast guests to queue up. No staff stationed to help. And then queued up again for getting the food - food picked up by staff during the breakfast buffet.

>> Cleanliness (5): The hotel environment and the room were quite clean. No litter observed at all.

>> Food (4): Food quality was fine, except that people queued up (again!) for omelets and noodles. It is better to distribute tags to guests so that they could get the food some minutes later.

>> Facilities (4): The pool, gym and kids facilities were good. Just that the lift to the swimming pool looked old.

The best things to do when staying in this hotel are either hiking to Tai Lam Chung Reservoir or having a seafood dinner at Sam Shing Estate. It is also quite a nice place for parents to bring the kids and spend a weekend. Kids would be happy when they get a pack of snacks (chips, chocolate and biscuits) when checking in.

I bet this hotel was a very nice place when it opened in the 1990s, but now it needs more attractions for the guests or else it lacks the competitive power against the new hotels in the city.
