The Salisbury - YMCA of Hong Kong comes highly recommended by many for its value and prime location, offering easy access to local attractions and public transport. Guests have called out the clean rooms with picturesque harbor views and the variety of amenities, including a satisfying breakfast buffet. However, some travelers have noted that the service and cleanliness can be hit-or-miss, pointing out the need for more thorough housekeeping and more attentive staff. While the hotel boasts a welcoming atmosphere and spacious rooms, a few reviewers caution that certain areas appear dated.

This hotel is in prime touristy location with many attractions nearby eg Space Museum, Arts Museum, Avenue of Stars, Heritage 1881, star ferry, Harbour City Mall, iSquare Mall etc.

We booked a harbour view room of special discount via Agoda which is only HKD460. Wow! Excellent value for money! I think it used to be much more than a thousand dollar pre-Covid era. The harbour view day and night is gorgeous and mesmeric 😵. The renounced Peninsula Hotel right next shares the same views. Each night right before 8pm, we returned to our room to watch the Symphony of Lights laser show on both sides of the harbour. Wow! Wow! 🤩

The room has been recently renovated I believe, maintained in a very tidy and clean state. This hotel was established decades ago but the common areas, room interior look very nice and not aged. Room spacious with everything needed. Just two things not too good: TV set rather small and towels not look very clean with stains (unwashable stain).

The pool looks nice. It's not exclusive to hotel guests but members who have joined YMCA as well. The staff at the pool reception are not that professional as we were told the quota for swimmers was already full and rejected entry (2 mins ago when I called them at my room I was told there're few swimmers and far from full). After some conversations, the reception staff actually meant only the kids pool was full not the adult pool so we were then allowed entry 🙄. There's a mother lodging complaint against the staff right at the reception when we're there.

The staff at lobby counter is ok.

We didn't eat in the hotel although the restaurant looks good. Too many choices in the neighbourhood outside. I-Square mall is just 4 mins away on foot.

Overall a wonderful stay. My nephew already said before checkout that we should come next week for staycation again, ha! I think this hotel deserves 4 rating but as we got a wonderful harbour room at such an unbelievably low price, I gave it 5 rating.

This hotel beat my expectations. Based on the price range I was not expecting much but the location and property were perfect for a busy “tourist schedule “. The rooms were a good size, especially when compared to other properties in this price range. The location is perfect. It is adjacent to another famous five star property so you get a five star view for a much lower price range. It is a very short walk to two of the MRT lines. The restaurants in the neighborhood were all excellent some would have lines of local patrons stretching down the block so you know they are good! The hotel is currently under renovation but this actually made it easier to find.

We recently booked an overnight staycation at the hotel. The great impression when checking in, fast and prompt. We were located and upgraded to a harbor view room. Nice surprise made by the hotel to celebrate a special occasion which is appreciated. The room is spotlessly clean, fitted with a queen-size bed. All the amenities are present. Nice bathtub, on the other hand, better and brighter lights are recommended as well as a shaving mirror. Unfortunately, the windows are not cleaned for a while, hence obstructing the fantastic view. The room was booked for another reason as the hotel pool is opened again. Great pool layout, but take into consideration, that you share the areas with YMCA paid fitness club members. We had afternoon tea at the Mall Cafe, included in the booking, is a nice experience, yet oddly if you wish to order a cappuccino coffee, you have to pay extra. The following day, we had breakfast at The Haven on the 4th floor, and of course, because of the pandemic, breakfast is to order a la carte. Food isn't that one expects and rather plain and not tasty. Again the restaurant offers stunning views of the harbor and Hong Kong, yet the windows are not cleaned. A real pity. Overall we did enjoy our stay and do compliment all the employees for their courtesies and professionalism extended to us. On a final note and this is worthwhile to mention, the package gives you a stay of 28 hours, meaning you can remain in your room till 6 PM on the check-out date, be a big plus.

Just had a very simple one-night stay as I needed somewhere to work while child had a lesson at the Y, so turned the whole day into a staycation although didn’t get to try any facilities.

The room was basic but clean and had a view overlooking the roof play area/half harbour. I took the eco option. The shower gel is shower gel/shampoo on the label; no conditioner.

Check-in staff was not very understanding of the western way of names. I made the booking without my middle name and she said she couldn’t find my booking, and when she finally found it she said it didn’t match my ID. True, but not all people actually use their middle names. Other than that, the Y is a nice place to stay. There were no sounds that could be heard from other rooms.

We’re stayed here on 6-7 Sept, for my birthday celebration with my hubby, they gave me harbour view suite @ upper floor, the hotel is amazing, we feel heart-fully welcomed especially the bedroom with “Happy Birthday“ spotlight decoration.
The room is spacious about 530sq.ft., clean and neat. The best part is the view from the room is Victoria Harbour & Hong Kong Island, it really is a sight to behold a drink at the night while looking at the panorama harbour is the best! Appreciate Ms. Iris Lam pay all the efforts to arrange and make me feel surprise!
We are having the combo high tea @ Mall Cafe, the tea sets are tasty and the staff are attentive, the assistant manager also offer me a birthday cake.
The next day morning also included the breakfast at The Haven, food and drinks are delicious and you can view of 1881 Heritage and the new renovation of HK Art Centre, HK Cultural Center, Space Museum and also K11 Musea from the restaurant window.
I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends for them to visit and experience how warm will their stay is!

Stayed here a decade ago and happy to have stayed again. Still it's old school but somehow have the keeping up with the times feel to it. Location is one of the best points, the partial harbour room we had on the 13th floor was satisfying for what it's worth.

The room size was just right, enough space to move around even with a couple of luggages spread out. Lots of cabinets to keep your stuff. Quite surprised to see that they still use the old styled wall mounted hair dryers that somehow does it job. 32 inch TV we didn’t use. Furniture and overall design was simple and basic. Bed was comfortable though the duvet was separating inside the cover. Towels smelled a little too distinctly HK to me. Housekeeping on our floor was prompt on requests. We had pretty decent partial view of the harbor even if the room was facing inwards to the property.

The facilities for activities are shared with local members on another section of the hotel. With slightly heated indoor pool good for kids and elderly (also a larger one for competition swimming w/o heating). Wall climbing and gym facilities, among a few others. Best to visit during off hours.

Checkout was quick and didn’t even take a minute, and concierge guys were also always prompt when asking for assistance.

Overall, still a decent choice that is usually priced well enough if you book rather early especially if you’re after a harbor view that isn’t too pricey compared to others.

During my first visit in Nov 2022, I rated the hotel 5 stars for its convenient location, value, housekeeping and front desk service, which are the reasons I returned to stay in this hotel. Unfortunately, with the exception of good location, everything else was a big disappointment. Staff were abrupt and will cut you off mid sentence, and cannot be bothered to let you finish saying your request, assuming they already understood what you want to say, resulting in bedsheets not even changed once for the 3 nights we were there though it was stated that there will be one housekeeping service for stays of 3 nights. Complimentary tea and coffee were also not refilled at all! Really, for the price I paid for this stay, with so many promos going on now, I could have gotten way much better value at higher grade hotels which are way nicer and includes daily housekeeping.

We had an amazing experience at the YMCA hotel on Salisbury Rd. We actually arrived late in the evening due to long lines at the luggage carousel at the airport. The staff were friendly even though we were late in checking in. They even upgraded our rooms to a suite and gave us a complimentary breakfast buffet and drinks for 1 day.

The rooms were so clean and so was the bathroom. The room was spacious and had a great view of Victoria Harbour and the city. My child loved it so much, she didn't want to go home! Staff were easy to communicate with and whenever we requested something to the room, they obliged quickly. The location is also optimal since there is a nearby train station, a nearby mall, and nearby convenience stores around the area.

The beds we got were huge and very comfortable. The bathroom we had included a bathtub and the soap/shampoo/gel dispenser was refilled daily. I cannot say enough good things about our experience here in the YMCA hotel. If given the chance to go back to Hong Kong, I will definitely check back in the YMCA hotel again.

It’s absolutely ridiculous- despite leaving a clean my room sign someone came into the room replaced the towels but did not bother to clean the room when I called the reception I was told post Covid they don’t change the bedding which is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard considering they do everything else - sheer laziness and cost cutting.
Also there was no water kept in my room. I’ve lived here before and promise never to live here again. It’s the worst service possible and they are not even apologetic about their carelessness

This was a great choice for our first family vacation in Hong Kong. There is a little play area outside on the 4th floor (one of very few hotels in Hong Kong that have this), which was very nice for our toddler. There is so much to do in the Tsim Sha Tsui area of Hong Kong.

The most enjoyable part of staying at the hotel was using the rock climbing wall. You MUST book it at least 3 days in advance. The hotel is strict about that.

I arrived to the climbing wall by myself, because our baby was napping. They asked if I could come back later, and were as accommodating as possible, because they had somehow double booked. In fact, the timing worked out great for us, so that my wife and son could join too. We basically had a whole rock wall room to ourselves, along with a trainer who did an amazing job teaching us to climb. We were able to take turns climbing while the other watched after our son, who played with the giant safety mats.

It's $280 HKD total for a maximum of 3 people to get a 1-hour session with a trainer at the rock wall. There is no option to climb without the trainer. If you get the "Sportcation" promotion, you get the 1-hour session for free.

Anyway...do the rock climbing wall if possible, and make sure to call or email them to book it at least 3 days in advance. And they may or may not be flexible with the schedule (originally I was told that 3pm would be the only option).

The breakfast is fantastic. I'm sure lunch and dinner are great too, but they seemed expensive, so we enjoyed some local restaurants, and also used the mini fridge for our own groceries.

If you go swimming, you have to wear a swimming cap. I guess there's a hairy story behind that, though there are a lot of hotels in certain countries (e.g. China) that have that rule. But whatever. It's $68 HKD to buy the swimming cap at the pool.

I was very happy with the baby-friendly accommodations at the hotel restaurants and throughout the hotel in general. The baby cot was decent too. And our room had a bathtub, which he absolutely loved playing in.

And of course, ask for a room with a view of the Victoria Harbour, if possible. It's really lovely.
