We are an American family living in China. In August we met our adult children and their families in Hong Kong. Looking for an apartment setting, we rented three apartments through Hong Kong Home. The three apartments were located on three different floors but all were similar configurations- about 55 square meters each with two bedrooms, one bath, and a small kitchen.

We live in China and have very low expectations and requirements when we travel, but the accomodations in these apartments were really not acceptable. They were absolutely filthy. When we got there we went immediately to the store to buy cleaning supplies. In the kitchen, I could not reach the upper portion of the wall so there was an obvious line with a white wall beneath and a dark gray brown wall above. The kitchen did have a refrigerator and a two burner propane type stove, which worked fine, but the apartment was very inadequately stocked with cookware, serving equipment, etc, and everything in it was dirty and had to be cleaned before use. The only good thing I can say about cleanliness is that the bedding was clean. However, I did have a lot of itchy bites at night and got up to check for bedbugs- though I saw none.

The apartments were also moldy, musty and dusty so if you have allergies as some of us do, you might want to avoid them.

The apartments are located near the bay on the Hong Kong Island side of Hong Kong. It was close to the subway, which was its best point. They were also inexpensive. We had six people stay in each room at night (the limit) and the units cost about 400 rmb a night ($58 U.S.) which is very cheap for HK. I guess if you need a long term stay in a cheap place, you could come in and give the place a good thorough cleaning (to thoroughly clean the places we stayed would have taken two whole days, in my estimation) and then you'd be ok. Keep in mind with the price that you must bring your own cooking and serving equipment, bring some towels as those supplied are inadequate, provide all your own paper goods, cleaning supplies, and so on so you can't compare the price with a hotel.

Though in Hong Kong, we were required to pay with Chinese renminbi. We paid a deposit up front and then met the landlord the day of check in to receive keys. She came the day we checked out and returned the deposit. At the time, I was mopping the apartment so as not to leave it so dirty for the next guest and she assured me that the cleaners would be right in to clean. I told her that the place was very very dirty when we arrived and she commented that people have different standards. That is assuredly true, so if you don't mind a bathroom that is very smelly and has dirt up the walls, a kitchen that has grease stuck onto everything, dishes with dead bugs in them, and floors that have layers of dirt- you might like this apartment better than we did.

So...while I would not recommend this Hong Kong Home, I will say that there ARE actual apartments and that the landlord gave us our deposit back. Both of those were good! The apartments in no way resemble the photographs on the web page. And while the web page says that the apartments are Ikea furnished, we saw only a few furnishings from Ikea.

And I am guessing that the other review was written by the owner. I can't imagine anyone who has been a guest there being so delighted with the accomodations!
