…though my Airbnb room had a lovely sea view from my balcony and the bed was very comfy. Still, as a ‘resort’, this place has obviously seen better days and there doesn’t seem to have been much maintenance or upkeep done on the buildings for years. Before staying here, I always thought it looked like a Brazilian favela from the other end of the beach…and that doesn’t seem too far off. For example, some of the railings separating my balcony from next door were resulted to the point of breaking and the lighting in the hallway was very patchy. There are much nicer options if you are looking to stay on Cheung Chau to be honest.

In Cheung Chau island,
Nice room in front of the sea but for 1000HKD, you do not have the right to have towels.
You are told to buy them because it is not really a hotel!
Even if you spend one night in a room, it is not a hotel....
They are not thieves, they refund if you are not happy... but use a loud voice, you have more chance to be understood.

If you like cockroachs then this your place. I stayed 10 weeks and found them in my bed a few times. They are all over the resort. The place is very noisy and rooms dirty but they work on refurbishing. The new rooms look ok but do not expect what they say on their website (luxury bla bla). During schools vacations young HK people come to Cheung Chau to have parties, especially on weekends. Then it is much better to sleep on a beach (if you do not mind mosquitos).

We stayed for four days. Thanks to Tripadvisor we had some idea what to expect.
Thus we did bring:
Air fresheners (very much needed in the toilet)
Towels (only FOR SALE)
Soap
Mosquito wall plug repellent
And we bought:
Paper cups at Park N Shop (Not a single cup or glass in the room, even when equipped with a kettle)
Well the room was as in any south East Asian backroad village. Possible to sleep.
They did have two beds, one too short (I’m 178cm) and one okay but totally worn out, but tall enough for not very tall me.
The fridge was cold.
The kettle worked for half of the stay but they changed it promptly.
The balcony may have had a great view if they didn’t tile up the view gap.
Many items in the room had price on them, like in China 20 years ago, great revenue for the hotel of you break or loose anything.
The sofa was terrible, totally worn out and smelly. It was a non go zone.
What to expect:
A roomy room on the beach, close to town and super close to the safety bun shop. Good small TV. Functional AC’s.
Friendly check on personell.
No soap, no towels (never had this anywhere), no real sea view, worn down beds and sofa.
Any thing you break or loose breaks your bank and refills theirs.
BTW the location is at infamous Bela Vista… location at Google Maps is not correct, “Front disk” is at Bela Vista Block 2.
Will we be back? Maybe for a day if we really can’t find another place as Cheng Chau is a lovely place but we stayed at the new hotel in Tung Chung at the same price at last week. Including super service and top level breakfast.

Let's start with the good. If you want a water view and smell sea air, then the Miami Resort has it.
Now, let's move on to why you should move on to a different property. The properties next door were remodeling with pneumatic drills. Reception never warned us about this fact. We should at least have been told when we were checking in. At least the excessively loud failing exhaust fan in the bathroom drowned out that noise. Walls are paper thin, and you will hear your neighbors. The bed was horrible, and it ruined the next day because we were so tired. The rooms have a nice view of the beach, but it is filled with garbage. (I realize that the beach is public land, but how about sending an employee down to fill up one garbage bag every day. It would do wonders for your biggest draw.) The room is "decorated" with signs explaining how much you will be charged if a particular item is broken. I certainly did not feel welcome. Considering the price charged, this should have been so much better. And it could be better. But it is not. The management acts like it does not care.

The poster signaling the "Miami Resort" has seen better days and one can barely imagine the imaginary once on it. The place offers sleeping. And probably you have a whole animal farm you share your room with. So, if you don't have to, don't do it.

Stayed here 3 nights and really enjoyed it . If you are looking for an alternative to Kowloon/ HK island this is the place. The resort is on the opposite side of the island to the ferry terminal. They have a booth at the terminal and if the staff member does not speak English they will give you a map with directions for the 5 minute walk. A staff member will speak English and show you a variety of rooms. This is a simple unpretentious place of a backpacker standard. Having said that it's still HK so prices even midweek are not rock bottom . For $HKD550 we got a comfortable room with 2 mattresses on a raised platform small table and chairs fridge AC small but adequate bathroom with shower over the toilet ,very small towels ,TV ,fridge and kettle. The room was right on the water with a lovely view across to Lamma island from a small balcony. Everything was very clean. For about $100 less a similar room was available in the building opposite without a view. The outside area is a bit of a mess ( renovations underway) but the room was fine. These rooms are a lot more expensive on weekends and do draw a young party crowd then as well so can either be extremely quiet with only the sound of the waves lapping below your room or as was the case on our last night noisy with lots of shouting and scraping of furniture until after midnight. Still really enjoyed our stay.

I stayed in the resort last year at the end of Summer. They are at the beginning but they try to build a high-standard accommodation from a scratch. There are plenty of different rooms in the resort and your experience depends solely upon what room you take. Cheung Chau is an excellent location and Miami Resort will sooner or later be a good choice for everyone. Currently it is a good value for a price, at least a long-term package was reasonable. I did not investigate per night or per weeks prices.
