First off, it's a budget accommodation so anybody who expects any hotel service will be disappointed.

Let's start with:
1.) Location - The location is excellent! From HKIA, we took the Airport express, got on the free shuttle (shuttle K3) then got off at the Hyatt or you can even get off at the Holiday Inn and it's a 3min. walk to this. MTR station is quite near and you can even walk to the star ferry and even the china ferry terminal to go to Macau is quite near (15min. walk). The promenade, the malls, avenue of the stars are literally quite easy to go to by just walking.

2.) Accommodations - I rated the place Excellent for a budget accommodation. Clean rooms, clean sheets, clean bathroom and very trendy rooms! The beds are kind of small and was a bit firmer than i'm used to. The only gripe i had are the small pillows but I still slept very soundly at night. The only thing if i have to nit pick are the soundproofing of the rooms but luckily all guests during our stay Nov. 28-30 and Dec. 1-3 were very polity and were quiet except for the occasional shuffling out of the room and their doors closing.

Don't forget to check out the common rooms and the veranda. They have a sort of vendo by the elevator and you can get your drinks and around 9-10 different kinds of beers.

3.) Price:- Price point for this is great. Excellent value proposition. Trendy rooms, excellent price, and location. Can't beat the price for a great location.

Would not hesitate recommending this to friends who are looking for a great place to stay / sleep in HK without paying a lot and are not expecting a hotel experience.

I stayed in a single room at the Hop Inn at Carnarvon Road early May for 10 nights. I travel to Hong Kong every year for about 2 weeks and stayed at different guest houses in Tsim Sha Tsui area, this was my first stay at Hop Inn.

Like most reviewers said, the location is perfect, the room and bathroom, although small, is very clean and newly decorated. I got to talk to 3 different reception staff and they were all nice and professional and responsive to my request/enquiry.

I had to switch room on day 3 because the wifi was not stable for my first room (need to reboot the router whenever I need to login). Had no problem with wifi after I changed room.

I have one complaint and that's a big one for me.... the short supply of hot water in the shower. When the shower was on, hot water disappeared before I could even rinse the shampoo off my hair. They use "storage" water heater in which you turn on the water heater, wait for 15 minutes (the staff said) for the water to heat up in the storage unit and then you can take a shower.

At first I thought it was an individual problem in my first room, but when I told the reception staff about it, I was surprised to hear that other guests complained about it and a technician was called to look at the problem (which he couldn't find a problem with the heating process). I am pretty sure it wasn't a malfunction of every unit, but rather the model they picked with a small size water tank that is the key problem.

When I switched room, I chatted with a house keeping lady and she agreed it was a common problem. She is the cleaning lady that cleans every room so she should know!

I don't want to write a bad review without any proof, and I was staying for 10 nights so I could do a little experiment. I brought my iPhone in the shower with me and used the stop watch to time how long the hot water would last. I also waited 15 mins, 30 mins, 1 hr, 2 hrs, half a day (just various duration) after I turned on the shower because I turned it on to see if that made any difference.

The shortest time the hot water "started" getting cold was 52 seconds, and it turned completely cold within 30 seconds after that.... a total of 1 min 22 seconds of hot water. And no, I doubt if anyone can finish a shower within that time frame (washing hair or not). The average time when hot water started to get cold was in the 2-minute range, and usually by the 3rd minutes hot water would be completely gone.

I ended up separating my shower and hair washing in two different occasions every day, and turned off the water altogether whenever I didn't need to rinse and only turned it back on when I rinsed. Luckily this May was exceptionally hot and I was able to tolerate this.

I would like future reviewers to also contribute comments in this aspect and maybe when it is more than just me (and the reception staff, the cleaning lady, and two separate rooms used), the owner will acknowledge and tackle this problem.

Oh one thing though, they advertise they use low flow shower head to be green, but that is not the problem... flow and water pressure has no problem...... just no hot water. I had stayed at other guest houses less nice and less cool and less clean.... but they had instant non-stop hot water supply.

I have to honestly say I really really like Hop Inn, except for this problem. But if this problem is not solved.... I don't think I will go back and stay there (unless it's the peak of the summer)!

I highly recommend this hostel, because #1. Cleanliness #2. Convenient location #3. Free wifi & #4. Free unlimited drinking water. For a hostel in Hong Kong, I find this place quite decent, each room has it's own bathroom, with clean white towels & shampoo/body wash are provided. Beddings are clean & white too. All the basics are in the room, what more can you ask for, for its lower price than a 3 star hotel can offer. I would rather stay in Hop Inn than in Ramada Hotel in Kowloon which I believe is a 3 star hotel. Next time you go to Hong Kong try this hostel, and by the way, they have branches in Hankow Road and Mody Road (which is their newest branch). I usually stay at their Carnarvon Road branch because the rooms are larger than Hankow Road branch, although Hankow's location is even better if you ask me, but I would rather have a little more space so I always book at Hop Inn at Carnarvon. This hostel is highly recommended, if you find the hotels in Hong Kong quite pricey.

Correspondence with Hop Inn was great. Check-in was OK. When you ask what you can visit or do at night since it's your first time, you get a map but no advice.
The place looks like a hostels for young hippies.
The bedroom? Oh well...it looks like a kid's room with paintings on walls full of damages that fortunately the paint covers. The room stinks like mildew because a smell comes from the pipes in the bathroom. I's terrible!
Regarding the bedding, the bed is 1,90 from wall to wall. I doubt that the sheets were fresh but if they were, the smell and stains didn't give me that impression.
The bathroom is "practical", the shower curtain is too short at the bottom and the floor gets wet everywhere. The fixtures are completely outdated and the shower head doesn't hang on the wall once you turn on the water.
Besides, at the time of check-in, I wasn't told to turn on the switch for the boiler.
Check-out time at 10am and no one at the reception.

This is the worst hostel of my life since I've travelled to 8 countries because I had to pay unreasonable 100 hkd penalty.

When I checked in, male staff took me to a bed in shared room and said this was my bed, so I put my bag on this bed and went out.

When I came back, I found my bag was put it on another bed. After a while, female staff came in and said “That is your bag right? You put bag on wrong bed when you checked in. Don’t change the bed by yourself” and ask me for 100 hkd penalty. I said, but male staff told me first time that bed was my bed. Female staff said that she had already asked to male staff. He didn't say that. What!

We argued for a while. Female staff said if I don’t pay the penalty, I have to get out of the 2-night accommodation that I booked. So I have to pay a 100 hkd even though it wasn't my fault. It's all of your fault who informed the wrong bed in the first time. It's all your sloppy and I won't step on this hostel again!

Jeremy, the front desk manager refused to refund my deposit when I was just under 9 hours past the free cancellation deadline. The reason I missed it was because I was in emergency surgery, so was unconscious and was not able to cancel the reservation in time. I informed him of this and he seemed completely unconcerned and unwilling to help.

I had to cancel because my flight got cancelled because of the corona virus. Booked for 3 nights. The hostel didn't do anything to help me, they only wanted my money, and I didn't get any refund, eventhough I cancelled 5 days after booking and more then a month before my stay. Worst service I ever got! Do not stay here, this place is only after your money!!

First the good points. Location is good. Next to a MTR Ststion and a 7Eleven which is very useful. Staff very helpful and friendly. It was easy to book. Very safe with round the clock reception. Rooms serviced well with clean bedding and towels daily if required. Common room with kettle, fridge and microwave . Terrace with table and chairs . Shower cubicle in room with toilet and washbasin. Very nice and the shower works well. Good supply of hot water.
BUT .. all the rooms have a less than standard sized bed (even by Adian standards) basically a three-quarter by UK measurements. (We were told this was the only size they could order at the time!) Even worse the duvet suze isn't sufficient even for this small bed . When we complained we were given a second duvet but this isn't really a solution! Try sleeping in a tiny bed with two duvets ...impossible! I am only 5ft 4 and weigh just 50k . My husband is under six foot and also thin. We found it really hard to get a good nights sleep. . A solid base under mattress didn't help either!
The room was appalling . Dirty walls. The painting .on the walls was unfinished ..still pencil lines. Cracked plaster. All rooms are quite small. Don't expect furniture. Just a tiny bedside table. You hand your clothes up on four coat hangers provided on the back of the door. There was just room to have our three cases next to each other on the floor.m There is air-con but it is extremely noisy.
The 'terrace' looks like it hasn't seen a thorough clean for ten years. Chairs and tables very worn. You don't really feel like sitting out there.

I stayed at the Hop Inn on Hankow Road at the end of March. I think it would be very useful for Trip Advisor to separate the two locations of Hop Inn as the other location is newer and it is the source of most of the great reviews.

The location of this hostel is great and that is the best I can say.

I booked in for 4 days and gave my credit card to hold the room. I was booked into a double for the first 2 nights and a single for the second two. I was quite concerned about possibly getting a room without a window but thought I could handle it if I were in the double room.
When I arrived I was given a very small double with a window. Before I paid for the 4 nights I asked about the last two nights. I knew I could never stay in an even smaller room with no air. The desk clerk checked and assured me I was in a single with a window for the second two days. On the basis of that assurance I proceeded to pay with my credit card for the 4 nights.

I like to pay in the local currency on my credit card as I then avoid the 3.5 percent surcharge. I was offered the choice and asked for local but the clerk 'inadvertently' put the charge into Canadian dollars. It meant I paid more but I signed off not to make a fuss.

Then the problems began. Next time I saw the clerk he said that a returning guest wanted the single with a window. I pointed out that they had committed to me but he said the room would go to the returner even though I had been promised.

I went to my room and found another room on Trip Advisor as by this time I had seen the room with no window and I did not want to stay there.

I went out to tell them I had found found an alternative for the last two days and asked for a refund on my credit card. I was told that no refund would be given for night 3 and only 90 % for night 4.
I am traveling on a tight budget and already this room was twice the price of most places I've been staying in Asia. I could not afford to pay both them and the new place so was held hostage by the fact they would not return my money!

I understand that when booking you are guaranteed a window and was prepared to move if that happened, but I was assured of the window before I paid. I asked the manager to call my mobile. He never did. Eventually I reached him on Facebook and asked to talk about my problem. He never spoke to me to hear what his staff had promised and just gave me the same pat answer.

Having no other choice, I stayed in the room. It was a nightmare with a tiny bed too short for me at only 5'6" and surrounded by walls at the top end on three sides. For much of the night I was touching walls on all four sides.
Then, worst of all, I woke on night two with a line of bites on my ankles. I've travelled enough to recognize bed bug bites when I see and feel them. I let the owner know on Facebook but he erased my post and put up more about their awards.

I have been traveling all this year on a sabbatical from my teaching. Without a doubt this was worst place I've stayed. Beware

There is a mosque (Kowloon Mosque and Islamic Centre) near the Tsim Sha Tsui Station/Haiphong Road which is more or less a 10-minute walk from Hop Inn. For the room, I think they now have large rooms in their Hankow branch but you should confirm this with them since large rooms are usually booked in advance.

At Hop Inn Hankow, cooking is not allowed as well. I suppose, even at Hop Inn Mody Road, they don't allow you to cook too.
