I travel to Hong Kong on business twice a year, staying for over a week each time, so a regular traveller. I stayed regularly at the Apple because its charm outweighed its downmarket provision and location in Chungking Mansions. The staff stayed for years and always seemed pleased to see me. They were always helpful, going out of their way to make my stay good. While basic there were some really good facilities, like a freezer and microwave access. Rooms were cleaned daily and bedding changed routinely on alternate days. I also got a great room rate as a regular. In short my custom was appreciated I won't be back. There are new owners. They don't seem to value building a relationship with regulars. On my last stay I was put in one room for one night then moved to a room which had the corner of the bed and mattress cut off so the door could be opened. I had to ask for clean bedding after six days and if my room was ever cleaned in my ten day stay I was not aware of it. Swatted cockroaches stayed where they fell. They asked when I was leaving when I was back home. I didn't expect them to fawn and suck up but I felt completely taken for a sucker. What a shame…

Sadly the Apple Hostel has now got a new owner and it has changed. Before it was possible to overlook the flaws for the sake of cheapness and the charm of the staff, but now the staff have gone and it's no longer cheap either. I had to ask for housekeeping and for my bedding to be changed every time and I'm not entirely sure my room was cleaned at all. Staff were scarce and brisk, Not friendly, helpful, engaged and welcoming as before. They didn't even notice I had left for more than 24 hours. No preferential treatment for a long stay or regular customer now. (I'd been staying there two weeks twice a year for more than five years.) I no longer recommend

Lived here for over 6 months and it was the best decision. Very cost friendly, most awesome friends, 2 min away from MTR and 10 min walk away from beautiful park. This is the most underrated spot in the center of everywhere you need to go. Authentic, local, and best value of money in HK

Had a good experience before with a similar sized room (Sydney Hostel) in Chungking Mansions, I thought I’d try this one out. My oh my, wasn’t this a big mistake. The staff was helpful, and the room looked clean when I checked in, but had an emanating cooked food smell. Then minutes later, a first sighting of a baby cockroach. At first I thought, no worries. Just squish it and done. A few minutes later I saw another one, this time slightly bigger. And then another one in the bathroom. Squish, squish, and left the room to look for a bug spray. Found one by the corner and sprayed the entire room floor, then left for a walk round the city. Came back hours later, and saw a few dead baby roaches, and a couple more running around. Clearly they were coming from the very old drainage system in the bathroom and also likely from the aircon vents. Had a very uncomfortable sleep that night. Woke up in the morning and again saw a few more by my luggage, shoes n wall. Didn’t even bother to shower that morning and left ASAP.…

Apple hostel is a good choice if you want a budget place to stay in TST. Receptionists were all nice and friendly. Room is clean and towels are provided daily. Room price is okay and the location is good, near MTR station, restaurants and shopping area. We will definitely go back.

The building where the Hostel is situated is centrally located and for the price you pay it is extremely good value for money. You have to keep in mind that for the price there are no views, little in the way of amenities but it does a great job if you are just looking for somewhere to lay your head and refresh. The building actually has a lot of different types of cheap food on the ground floor especially Indian and Asian which is a massive bonus. Although you have to walk through a few hawkers each night and the lifts do get very busy so you may have to wait, you will not find a better location for the price and the people who run the Hostel and super friendly. All in all I found the hostel to be perfect for my visit and would go back again!

Apple Hostel is centrally located on Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui close to the MRT and plenty of shops/conveniences. I found the staff friendly and helpful. My room was small, basic but comfortable and clean. I paid about $A50 per night, reasonable for Hong Kong. I was pleased to see the police providing visible security in the area. Recommended.

Having researched the hostel online, I was not expecting anything fancy. Just a small, clean room to use a base whilst exploring the city. However the room itself was not very comfortable. Size aside, the bed was about 4ft off the floor, VERY squeaky, the AC did not work, the room was old and needed some work doing and our room was right next to reception. Being next to reception was a nightmare: we could constantly hear people coming and going, as well as people ringing the bell all hours in the morning to check in. The staff were okay, but not overly friendly. The shared bathrooms were not in the best shape: I would advise taking flip flops to wear in the shower. Rusty fixtures and a cramped room provided to be difficult to clean in. One bathroom did not even have a holder for the shower head or a door lock that worked. The hotel itself was not easy to find: you have a use a lift for Block B in Chunking Mansions (often having to queue for age to get the lift up). Despite this, the hotel is in a good location close to the airport express bus, the Star Ferry terminal and also the Tsim Tshui metro station. There are plenty of places to eat in the area, as well as do some shopping. The room itself was slightly cramped (to be expected), however the state on the walls/ ceiling was something else. Mould was spread across the ceiling and paint peeling off the walls onto the bed. It is probably worth spending a little more and staying somewhere with slightly cleaner facilities.…

Stayed in a single bed room in December 16. Room has a single bed with enough space for your luggage and own bathroom. Room has a small TV and water heater. Was so lucky to have Nica and her Mom (Filipinas) on duty! Thay are so helpful! There is a shared refrigerator and microwave oven you can use.
