Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

The Cityview hotel garners appreciation for its impeccable cleanliness and strategic location, nestled in a quiet area yet close to public transit and dining venues. While many guests commend the tidy and well-maintained rooms, others point out that the accommodations can feel cramped and occasionally suffer from outdated elements. The hotel's amenities are recognized for their convenience; however, accessibility to certain features like water dispensers has room for improvement. Opinions on value are mixed, with some guests finding the pricing reasonable for the location, despite the smaller room sizes and additional cost for breakfast. Service at The Cityview is often highlighted as friendly and efficient, though a few guests have encountered issues with elevators and internet speed.

I have been staying at The Cityview for nearly 2 months now and have enjoyed my time here immensely. The staff are in general excellent: the cleaning staff are very thorough and courteous; maintenance staff are quick; the entrance staff are vigilant in ensuring all visitors have valid Covid passes and their presence is great in stopping random strangers don’t just pop in. I would like to particularly commend Vivian who is highly considerate, warm and willing to deal with my queries. She has been very welcoming to me, always recognises me even in the age of face masks and a real pleasure to talk with. As someone from the UK whose family has worked in the service industry for many years, I can certainly appreciate that it is staff like Vivian who set this hotel apart from the rest.

As for the facilities, my deluxe room is spacious with a very comfortable double bed, a office desk with plenty of drawer space, a modern TV and a wardrobe. The bathroom is very spacious with a rain shower and standard shower head depending on your preference. The lighting is quite nicely placed, providing adequate lighting throughout the room. My room is basically next to Waterloo Road, one of the busiest roads in Kowloon, so it does get noisy at times and the window glazing is not very effective at keeping out noise. It can be distracting during the day but I did not find this to be a significant problem even though I have been working from my room. Downstairs, the lobby is well lit with a great atmosphere, seating areas, a Thai restaurant and an in-house bakery. I enjoyed the refreshing contrasts in colours provided by the plants. I have also used their self-service laundry room charged at $40/wash and dry which is a great facility to have in a hotel. It would be even better if gym access was included.

If you are reading this review, you are probably already aware of its convenient location in Yau Ma Tei. MTR is literally staring at you in the face outside. Spoilt for choice with food options - warning, if you are someone who can’t resist temptation, your waistline will be at risk. Believe me, it is probably one of the most convenient locations in HK for dining, shopping, social activities or just about anything really. Often, I didn’t feel the need to go anywhere else because everything I needed was within walking distance.

A memorable stay all around, I do recommend it if you highly rate convenience and personable staff. That’s coming from someone who has stayed in about 10 different hotels in Hong Kong, and about 30 across Europe and mainland China.

Had a family vacation at City view and they were very accommodating given that the protests were happening. They were always quick to inform guests of the situation and how best to still be able to see parts of the city. Overall it was a great place to stay that is close to the MTR and other shopping areas.
I did find the cleaning staff a little annoying as we stated we didn't want the room clean on some days and they kept insisting to come by calling numerous times or knocking at our door. It was nice to know they are on top of things but if the guest says no then it is a no...

I have stayed in this hotel a few times in the past so I knew that some room sizes are really small. Therefore I decided to upgrade my room to executive floor with greater room size by paying a little bit extra. The executive room size is acceptable though not spacious. However this is normal by Hong Kong standard.
Good points: convenient location as it is within walking distance to Yaumati MTR station, most facilities are included including safety box, small fridge, small sitting area, both restaurants are serving good food.
Minus points: close to a fire station so it can be noisy at night.

Due to Covid, the price of the stay was really cheap (around £31 a night in a premiere room). I had originally booked for four nights but extended it to 7 nights in total. The room was spacious, bed was the most comfiest I have ever slept in, staff are great and location excellent! The MTR is literally just round the corner on the doorstep. What I really liked is that the hotel is eco friendly and a recycle bin for plastic bottles etc is in you room. Would definitely stay here again although if it wasn’t for Covid, I’d imagine prices would be expensive. Upgrade to a premiere room!

Just welcomed by a very unfriendly staff member who was not able to use the Credit-Card Terminal. A friendly requested 'early check in' was used for a more expensive room instead of letting me three hours earlier in. Noone knows where the swimmingpool and gym is. Internet was not set with no privacy standard (room number and name). So they know what you do in the Internet. Old furniture, the TV has no HDMI. The room for this price was build for children, not for two adults. Cleaning stuff and door opening guys were all time very friendly. Nice welcome hall. But anyway.... not recommended at all.

Dear tripadvisor member - rwagne615068, First and foremost, I would like to express our sincerest apologies on behalf of The Cityview, for not being able to provide the early Check in service and the information that you need regarding the service availability of the Swimming pool & Gym. Our sincere intention is to provide only the highest quality of service and hospitality, we truly regret to learn about your experience which led to this unpleasant circumstance. In regards to the issue of Credit card terminal, Please do understand that the credit card should be attached with the terminal during the process of holding the incidental deposit and I believe that our front line staff could explain more in details in order to avoid the misapprehend situation. Different room categories vary in size; we have rooms in larger scale with different layouts namely Deluxe room, Premier room and Premier Suites that may cater different needs and budgets. All these come with considerable room space, enhanced in-room facilities and amenities that will make your stay even more comfortable. We hope this incident would not hinder your intentions to visit as we look forward to welcoming you back to witness our improvements in the near future. Should any assistance be required, please feel free to let us know and we will be most pleased to assist with.

To date, my stay at The Cityview hotel is the worst!

Very rude reservations staff. Andrew if I am not mistaken and the manager at that time (Jan 16 at 4pm) were so rude and very unaccommodating!

I paid for 2 rooms but initially, they only gave me 1. I checked with my travel agent and she confirmed that I paid for 2 rooms. When I went down to check and clarify things, Andrew mentioned that it was all my fault as I only gave him my own passport. In the first place, cant they even check the reservations made under my name that was paid way ahead of my trip? They didn't even apologize! Hello, Customer Service? Missing this BIG TIME!

The shower area of my room was clogged! I can't even take a decent shower! Is this really a hotel with a 4.0 rating?

Yes, the hotel is old and needs to be updated. Very few channels to choose from. The mini fridge needs to be replaced and the electrical sockets, I think, there's only 3 and all can be found at the side table.

Very sad for this kind of hotel. The only good about this is the location. They also gave a free cake as a family member celebrated his birthday in HK.

I stayed in this hotel for 10 nights for work. It's in a convenient location and it's well connected by local train (MTR), the staff were very polite and helpful and the hotel is very clean and tidy. This place is great for people who likes the night life in Hong Kong and who has to travel daily for work.

It's a 5 minutes walk to Yau Ma Tei MTR, with 2 convenience stores downstairs and 1 supermarket within 10 min walk. Unlimited choice of food in the surrounding. However, the rooms are really small which makes me feel sort of locked up but if you are just looking for a room to sleep after a full day of work or activities, it’s really a great choice with good value for money.

Moreover, there are 3 restaurants within hotel and I would highly recommend the "AMAZING" restaurant for Thai-style cuisine. The food is so delicious and nicely presented. However, the "City Café" restaurant breakfast was kind a boring and basic whereas it lacked the standard the hotel tries to maintain in all other aspects.

The cityview is probably a great hotel if you're put in the main wing of the building. It's in a good location, close to the MTR. The big problem comes if you're put for some reason in tower that also has floors for the administrative offices. It's served by a completely separate bank of elevators which you need to walk the length of the restaurant from the checkin counter to access. I only discovered the brand new larger wing of the hotel when I got lost and went up the main bank of elevators. Im not sure why the hotel would choose to put me in the administrative building as hotel occupancy should have been quite low throughout Hong Kong when i stayed in Dec 2019. Alas the tower i was put in had cramped rooms, elevator, room doors, ceilings, furniture, did not look modern at all, and had only a small window facing another building. Hardly a city view at all. The rooms probably had a wierd design because the tower itself had a triangular floor plan according to the fire emergency diagram on the door. Anyway I only stayed two nights and it was fine for the location and the cleaniness. But make sure your room is in the main building for a much better experience (probably) than I had.

One of us was with wheelchair and the staff were very welcoming and polite to us. I would say the food quality at dinner buffet was great considering the relatively cheap fees we paid. We stayed in connecting rooms on 19/F and had fun. The TV model was new. We were able to connect Nintendo Switch to the TV. It was a pleasant stay. The only thing I want them to improve is pillows being too soft and some visible dirt on bedsheets.

Their rooms are pretty small. We were in fact given 2 single beds instead of 1 double because of unavailability despite our request. It's up to you how expensive you are willing to go for comfort. I suggest going for a family room or if not write a note on your booking stipulating you have a 2yo.They might arrange ssomething for you.

Not recommended for 4 people, the room is vey small, the size is only 4x4m including the bathroom and toilet and the bed size also small. I stayed with my wife and 2 y.o son, need to find how to sleep on that bed 😅 I recommend to get family room or connecting room if any or maybe another hotel which have bigger room and bed.
