We chose this hotel due to its location for Summer Palace and Great Wall and also based on several recent rave reviews. This is not a bad hotel but somehow doesn't quite tick the normal Shangri-la boxes in terms of luxury and ambience. Our room (on top floor) was small, especially the bathroom, and felt autdated - and despite booking for 2 came with only one set of towels! Breakfast was OK but on one day was not ready at start time of 6:30. Reception and concierge service was helpful. I was offered a birthday cake, which was a nice touch, but administration of the gift was a bit haphazard. Unlike Shanghai (our home) and many other locations this hotel still takes COVID-19 very seriously but this is also a feature of Beijing. We were given toiletries on request at reception - for environmental reasons - but every time we returned to our room, our lights and aircon had been switched back on! The Shang Chines restaurant, including Peking Duck, was very good. Immediate surroundings are a sterile but a good location if you are going out each day.…
Spent a night in one of the Executive suites in the Garden Wing, the original building. There is a certain warmth about this wing that I find really endearing. Firstly, I got an amazing rate on the hotel website as a Golden Circle member, the hotel's reward program. Secondly, the Club Lounge really delivers with a fabulous group of staff. I have to single out Phyllis, manager on duty during my stay for thinking out of the box, Jet and Summer, for consistently engaging service and Sara, who was simply wonderful in dealing with whom I perceived to be an impolite guest. Also, Alan Wang from housekeeping who serves with such joy. Lastly, it was good to see the hotel almost back to normal with many services available, post-COVID. For example, what a pleasure it was to have a coffee at 10h45pm in the Club Lounge. For me, value for money and warm, personalised service matter and that is what I had this time. I will be back and back again.…
I've stayed in the Shangri-La Beijing a couple of times, and whether I'm traveling for business or for pleasure, it's always my first option! For a city that prides on its heritage and tradition, the Shangri-La fits perfectly in that regard. Both wings (Garden and Valley) of the property are fantastic, and they preserve cues of a very traditional Shangri-La elegance, yet modernized for our current days. The suites are very well equipped and make you feel at home, but with a big touch of luxury and tradition. I usually joke that hotels are either a play on familiarity and repetition or novelty and newness, but somehow this hotel manages to position itself right in the middle. The restaurants are modern and offer fantastic courses, whether you're up for Chinese, French, or Japanese style meals. Their live music in the wine lounge as well as the Azure restaurant is a great complement to the service and atmosphere. The gardens in the property are very calm and they turn into very fun experiences at night. Even part of their parking lot turns into a farmers' market on the weekends. I could go on and describe all the different bits of the hotel that make me feel happy, but I think I'll switch to tell you more about its people. Everybody: the doorman, to the attentive staff in the reception, the friendly cleaning crew, to the smiling room service staff, and the impeccably-dressed General Manager are always wearing a smile. Even during COVID-19 times, you can tell by looking at their eyes how pleased they are of having you around. Expect to be offered help as you navigate their huge property. Expect to be asked if your food is good. Expect to be greeted by the walking staff as they move from one part of the building to the other. Expect to feel welcome no only when you walk in, but through your entire stay. I already miss Martin, the GM, and his lovely crew. Looking forward to another escape to the capital!…
Stayed I we the weekend together with family, including 2 teenagers and a 10 year old. The staff was absolutely amazing! Very attentive and friendly, always sincerely wanting to ensure that our stay was at its best. We went to Beijing with a packed schedule, with the only thing in mind to tick off as many attractions as possible. We are used to travels, and unless you head for a tourist place and resort, we have little to no expectations on hotels as it’s primary everything else you head there for. Shangri-la in Beijing is different! We ended up wishing we’d stayed longer in the hotel and less on tourist attractions. When it was time to go home to shanghai, the kids didn’t even want to check out :) It turned out that the stay at Shangri-la was at Least the same memorable thing as the attractions themselves, which i don’t think my family has ever come across before. Head there and you won’t be disappointed!! …
Stayed in a lovely suite that comes with access to their magnificent club lounge. The splendid lounge comes with marble coverings which was really beautiful. There is also a garden at the hotel that is in traditional Chinese architecture. Can’t ask for more.
My husband and I stayed at the Shangri-La for our birthday weekend. Rooms were clean, staff were friendly, grounds were beautiful and the breakfast buffet was delicious. But what impressed us the most is that upon check-in, we didn't mention it was our birthdays. The next day, Jet, Phyllis and Maggie from Guest Relations surprised us with a delicious chocolate mousse cake and a homemade birthday card. Such a small gesture made a huge impact on our stay there. Thank you for a memorable staycation!
The breakfast was good, the room cleanliness is beyond my expectation, the hotel crew is also very nice.. Mainland people were so different with another chinese people in Hongkong... and also the most important thing: this is the only place with a lot of people who can speak in English very well😂 Thanks Shangrila Beijing!
Shangri-La is always on top of its services Perfect location. Service is efficient. Very good service, staff at the lounge are superbly attentive and chatty. Rooms are spacious and clean. Breakfast has large variety of food and taste decent.
This hotel is massive, good, friendly and well worth staying in. Olivia at the guest services took us aside and made our check-in hassle free. The room was set up for our three small kids and they felt immediately at home. Room a little dated but competent, the west building has newer rooms. The breakfast buffet is the biggest I’ve seen, (it even had sushi for heavens sake!) with the freshest soup bar, and many other hot dishes as well as more European offerings. It’s includes a kids breakfast zone too. After breakfast head to Beijing zoo, as it’s a must with kids because of the Panda bears. This was their highlight. The lounge at level 12 helped me cope with travelling with kids. The pool is cold for the kids but has a great spa for adults. Overall a good stay, excellent service team especially the Lounge staff. …
We actually stayed in April 2018, but as I lost my father shortly after, I did not write a review at the time. We stayed 4 nights in a lovely suite with access to the Executive Lounge. The hotel is beautiful and the staff exceptional! As we were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary, Phyllis and her team Rebecca and Chico, all from guest relations, surprised us with a bouquet of beautiful red roses and the most gorgeous cake in the shape of a heart. They went out of their way to make us feel really special and make the day happy and memorable for us. They even went so far as to take photographs to mark the occasion and e mail them to us. Thank you so much Phyllis and the team, your efforts were very much appreciated. In the Executive Lounge too the staff were exceptional, in particular Jet. He was polite, friendly and very professional. He advised us on places of interest, restaurants and much more. Nothing was too much trouble! He bent overbackwards to accomodate our requests and by the second day knew what our drinks order would be and was ready with it, as soon as we arrived in the lounge. We loved the personalised service and being indulged! It was a fabulous stay in an amazing city and we hope to return to your hotel. The staff mentioned are a total credit to the Shangri- La Hotel Beijing and we hope you go from strength to strength in the New Year. Surekha Gooneratne (London)…
