This is a courtyard house several hundred years old (Zuo Zongtang once lived there in the 19th century). It's bang in the middle of Beijing, just off Wangfujing, the main shopping street in the centre of the city, but surprisingly peaceful. Rooms are good value. Bathrooms perfect. Excellent simple breakfasts, very friendly staff. A home from home.

If you are looking for an old Beijing courtyard hotel, this location is for you. We just stayed here for 6 nights in one of the premier business suites. Bustling Wangfujing Street is just steps away; however, the property is tranquil and a great place to rest and reflect. Please understand that the courtyard hotel experience is very different than a regular hotel and we loved it. Simple, traditional Chinese breakfast, limited TV selections, and replica historical furniture are just a few of the highlights. If you find the bed too hard, they will graciously add an extra layer. The location is very close to bus and subway. Taxis are also easily accessible. After a long day of sight-seeing you feel like you are coming home to a quiet respite in the middle of one of the most interesting cities in the world. For a change of pace from modern, chain hotels in China, give this Beijing courtyard a try. We believe that you will not be disappointed with your choice.

We were received by Mr Wang when we arrived. Was given a free upgrade to a VIP Triple Suite. The room is big, clean, toiletries available, rain shower, tv. It was one of the coldest night when we were in Beijing and there was a portable AC that has heater function, so we were toasty in the room. I did not even feel like going anywhere, just happily stay in the room. Bathroom all in working condition. Outside of the room, they look like they were upgrading some stuffs, but it did not affect us in anyway. Breakfast was free, simple home cooked food that warmed our stomach. It was a wonderful experience.

This was an awesome place to stay, it felt like a little bit of the old China. The room was large and comfortable, warm the staff were friendly and very helpful. The outdoor courtyard was beautiful with it's flowers and trees and different areas to sit and enjoy. It was close to the shops. My stay here was pleasant.

A lovely low key hotel with simple amenities, great for people who prefer a fuss free stay in Beijing. Its situated right in the middle of Wangfujing so you can access to all the eateries and shops around. The staff are efficient and polite but I learnt that they work crazy shifts (morning 8am to next day 8am??) but still they remain professional and friendly. The breakfast spread is mostly local cuisine but there are toasts and sausages and fruits and yogurt available. The coffee is instant but there is Starbucks nearby. I stayed at the large room with 3 single beds and it was a comfortable stay overall. Many reviews shared that the place is worn out but I do note that this is a residence of a former high ranking military figure from over a 100 years ago so please don't expect a Hilton :)

Loved this hotel! The staff was friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was a good mix of traditional and westernized food. Rooms were spacious and clean. Location was accessible to touristy things (walking distance to forbidden city) and easy to get taxis.

Needs renovation. Not properly maintained. Dirty bathroom. Quite expensive. Only good things are: nice staff, location, just few minutes walk to Wangfujing, and the feel of traditional Chinese house. Deceiving pictures!

A gorgeous, literally hidden gem right off Wangfujing. Siheyuans will soon be a thing of the past, and this one has well-kept garden courtyards yet relatively modern facilities. We stayed in one of the cheap rooms shown in the photos and did not encounter any issues with cleanliness that past guests seem to have had. A big plus for us is the opportunity to handwash our laundry; hotel provides complementary detergent, wash bucket, and clotheslines. The hotel appears to be owned or at least associated with a local YWCA. Rooms are on the pricey side for the quality, but in my opinion worth the opportunity to stay in a quickly fading Beijing architectural icon. Included breakfast was relatively spartan (but free coffee always a plus in China). Only two issues with my stay was mostly out of the control of the hotel: (1) construction outside could be heard (faintly) as late as 11pm, though it would have been nice for hotel to provide rooms with a notice as other hotels I've stayed in have done, or provide complementary earplugs; (2) other rooms seemed popular with Chinese families with children who can be somewhat loud, disrupting the otherwise tranquil atmosphere. The hotel still gets full marks from me, however, because service here was BY FAR the best I've encountered anywhere in China. The front desk lady who checked us in worked at 24-26 hour shift (!!!) yet was unfailingly polite and always helpful. I will definitely come back and stay for at least one night next time I'm in Beijing--if it's still here =/ Overall, highly recommend staying here at least one night to anyone who remotely cares about history/culture, is relatively low-maintenance, yet doesn't mind upper-mid range prices.

Very typical courtyard Huton hotel. Beautiful gardens. Rooms are typical, but old (sometimes stuff is kept on with tape), and unclean, especialy under the bed!! Sea of dust, and dead coackroaches... But the worst was to have the biggest coackroach we've ever seen, living in our bathroom. The hotel accepted to change our room. In the new one, a dead smaller cockroach is under the bed. Just keep this place clean and without coackroaches, and it would be great!

Don’t be fooled by the pictures this hotel has not been refurbished in many years and our room was in no way quaint. I would say that it is an excellent location and we had absolutely no city noise. It was very clean. I was puzzled by the YWCA insignia on the slippers and linens. We arrived in the middle of a freak cold snap and Temperatures were in the mid 30s. The heater in the room took hours to warm the room to a minimum standard. The breakfast buffet is pitiful except for the fresh fruit and they overcharged me.
