early 20th century must have been like. Food in magnificent dining room was perfect in service, presentation , and taste. What a traveler's dream.
This hotel exudes bling and tackiness from the moment you walk in. The lobby is grand an impersonal and completely over powered by the expanse of the atrium (which is quite spectacular). Reception is tucked away managed like railway ticket office. While the check-in staff certainly know their job the experience was somewhat, well, "state owned".
Room was big and ostentatiously designed and just missing the attention to detail needed to pull of this design. It wasn't elegant but wasn't wholly unpleasant. Bed was comfy though. The bathroom was again big but in trying to offer super convenience it ended up added a particularly ugly manual curtain winder, quite bizarre.
Breakfast was really not good. Service was terrible - had my table taken away while I was in the queue for eggs (which are cooked in advance and consequently cold and hard). Food quality was very average, nice to be finished and out of there.
So, it wasn't unbearable, it was clean and the staff were not unpleasant but it was definitely missing something. If pushed or if there was nothing else in the area I would go back.
negativity : it was too hot in the room and the windows can not be open, little outdated but looking stilll pretty good.
Almost Nobody speaks English, but this is common problem in china,so we took e sim and had non stop internet and we used translator .the sauna and steam bath was not very hot.The massages was very expensive. The location is very good, very close to forbidden city
Overall the hotel was very nice.
Our visit was 10% business and 90% tourism. Had a wonderful time and made new friends.

The employees from the bellboy to the room attendant are just great. They could not do enough for you. Ciara and Richard at the Guest Services desk were always there in the lobby to greet people. Doorman was always nodding and happy. The rooms are comfortable and the atmosphere is clean and comfortable. I will be back!
"Be very very careful crossing any street or intersection in Beijing. Getting run over by car, scooters, bikes is very common."Read full review
