Detailed Reviews
Hotel is currently known as LeafIN Hotel Beijing Minzuyuan. For the relatively inexpensive price, the room was well equipped, even if my view was the inner courtyard... Also, a rich buffet breakfast was included in the room price. Beitucheng subway station is a few meters away. None of the staff spoke English, but Google Translate did the work.

My family stayed here from Jan 3 to 5, 2013 for our Beijing holiday. The hotel seems new and clean. The decor was oriental but modern. The room was spacious with a sitting area. The beds were very comfortable ( with a choice of hard or soft pillows). The tv channels were all in Chinese though. The bathroom was roomy too. Breakfast was good with lots of fruits and juices, although the viands are not very western. Wifi is good even inside the rooms, but FB and twitter are blocked, of course :p I liked that the hotel is right beside a shopping mall where one can buy treats and winter gear. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends. I enjoyed my stay so much that I plan on booking with other Holiday Inn Expresses in my next travels.

good
near a metro station (subway) around 5-minute walk- this was very important for us
near a grocery
near Mc Donald's
there was a breadshop nearby which had yummy bread, cakes
there was a nearby restaurant which had yummy beef with soysauce (inside the mall)
not so good
not much variety - breakfast
room we had looked tired

This hotel is nice. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is friendly and speaks some English.
It is down an alley and if I hadn't taken a taxi there when I first arrived, I never would have found it.
I will say it is close to Beitucheng Subway line. When you exit the subway, take the SW exit, turn right. Turn right at the stop light into the alley and walk a short distance. The hotel will be on the right hand side. You will see the sign. Walk around the sign and up the ramp into the hotel lobby.
The wifi did not work in my room and I could not use my computer, except to upload photos.
The breakfast is nothing to brag about. I have stayed in other HI Express hotels, and their buffets were outstanding. This doesn't compare in the least. It is your basic Chinese breakfast, except for some cereal and bread to toast. They do offer fried eggs and hard boiled eggs, but no meat except in the steam buns, and some contain vegetables.
The breakfast buffet is from 6:30-10, however, I would suggest to wait til probably about 7 for the chef to begin making fried eggs.
It is not very far from Olympic Park, probably about 20 minutes; and it is located next to an RT Supermarket/mall. So those are pluses, as well as being close to the subway
If you exit on the opposite side of the mall, you will not be far from the hotel, and there is a McDonalds, bakery (very good) and the China Ethnic Museum (which I did not go to). If you end up on this side, take 3 right turns to get back to the hotel. The jewelry mall will be your landmark.

Receptionist could hardly understand English. It took over an hour and a half to be checked in.
Room was spacious, beds comfortable, conditioning working good, but carpet was disgusting to step on barefoot, walls dirty, bathroom really needs remodeling.
The worst part is breakfast area and breakfast itself (this is nothing like pictures you see on booking.com - I have uploaded photo how dirty it is). 90% of all food is Chinese (not a western style breakfast).
Hard to get taxi but Metro line is about 5 min walk.
Wifi is not working most of the time.

Stayed during October 2013 for one night business trip.
IHG Platinum member recognised at check in -free soft drink - not sure if upgrade - maybe as colleagues on 7th and myself on 8th floor. Considering this is Beijing the staff could not speak English.
Long room with 2 fair size beds -work table - free good wifi - small but adequate bathroom.
Could just see bird nests from room. Carpets had seen a better day - room musky cigarette smell. Ipod dock
Breakfast included in price - 80% chinese food - cereal and toast though.
Being only time there - it was about 5 mins walk from tube line 10 (D2 exit) on right hand side.
Hotel appears hidden down a less than popular road where taxis were few and far between - hotel did book taxi for us - beware taxi sharks pretending to drivers saying their official taxi is around the corner -its not.

We were booked at this hotel from May 24-27, 2013. It was our first time in Beijing and I must say that Holiday Inn Express Minzuyuan is a clean, basic, safe and comfortable hotel. It is a few minutes walk from Olympic Park where you can view the Bird's Nest and Water Cube. There is a mini supermart near it and a mcdonal'd and watsons and some bakeshops and noodleshops around the corner. It is not by the main road so it's relatively a quiet area which is safe at night.
The room we stayed in was a standard twin and it is spacious and complete with a couch, tv, cabinet, business area and a lot of sockets. The bed was comfortable, much to our relief as our tour involved a lot of looong walks :) Room temperature can be adjusted and if you're a light sleeper, this is a good hotel because it was quiet...at least it was in our floor (8th). The bathroom was clean and had good water pressure, and has hot and cold. They cleaned our room each day and replenished drinking water and the towels. This is a basic hotel so we pretty much carried our own luggage to the lift but bellhops are available on request. The front desk personnel do understand english and they gave us tourist maps of Beijing. Breakfast has an adequate number of choices, the thing is, it is more suitable for the Asian palate. Breakfast can be a problem for the Westerners, I think but the staple breakfast must-haves like bread and cereals, fried rice and fried egg, juice, coffee and tea are available. Vegetarians will not have a problem as there are steamed and pickled vegetables and soymilk. The porridge or soup they have is plain (no taste) so if you're going to try it, you have to add the pickled veggies to add flavor :) We liked walking to Olympic Park at night, that's where the locals go to fly kites with neon lights, practice some ballroom dancing, sing songs and just enjoy the scenery. It's where you go to get a view of the local culture. There are some vendors though when you get closer to the Water Cube and the Nest, so resist trying to buy anything from them if they approach you.
All in all Holiday Inn Express Minzuyuan did well and met our expectations for a memorable trip in Beijing.

I stayed at this hotel for 12 or so nights at the end of September. It is a typical Holiday Inn express, and so there is nothing particularly good or bad about the hotel. It is clean and the wifi and breakfast was free, with the latter being just about acceptable unless you were happy eating a Chinese style breakfast.
The rooms were of OK size, and to be fair I thought the shower facilities were good. There was a laundry room in the hotel which was a nice touch however it is a shame they don't have even a small gym given the size of the hotel.
The location of the hotel is very close to the Olympic park which was perfect for what we needed.

I had a group of 38 teenagers and sponsors. We stayed at this hotel due to an excellent price and the exterior of the hotel looked awesome. However, there were many problems with this hotel. 1. It was difficult to find; the entrance is in a back alley. 2. There is nothing within walking distance for a group except a McDonalds about 1/4 mile away. You have to walk in complete darkness to get to the McDonalds. 3. In multiple rooms the shower water drained back into the carpet. 4. The breakfast area is not clean! Very interesting breakfast choices and crowded every morning. 5. Perhaps the biggest was the failure of the hotel to exchange RMB. This made no sense at all. They ran out of RMB and would not exchange US for RMB for the entire stay.
The Internet was good for our group with multiple computers although the lobby was incredibly small for such a large hotel.

My first room was totally shabby and disgusting in a dirty and run-down neighborhood. I felt like I was back in the nineteen fifties. The sign of the hotel was even broken. I was too embarrassed to have my friend come upstairs to get their gifts, already feeling so awful about having them to drive to this rundown street with trash all over the sidewalk. I asked to be changed to a newer room after one or two nights. The newer room was much nicer. I don't understand why they would assign the worse kind of rooms to a loyal customer when much nicer rooms were available.
Breakfast is mostly cheap carbs.

This hotel is located in the city of Beijing, and within walking distance is a metro station and Beijing Olympic Park
There is a giant old mall right next door, and we found to our surprise that there were some really good restaurants on the first floor - walk in the main entrance and hang a left and walk down a long hallway. There's a dumpling shop mid-way down that was awesome - the atmosphere left a lot to be desired, but the food was good and they were very helpful. I was able to find options as a vegetarian, but all the places are very meat-centric. Other than that, jump the subway and go down a few stops to find restaurants. There's supposedly a few around the Olympic park area, but hard to find. It's easier just to subway down a few stops into the area around the Drum and Bell towers and there are lots of restaurants there.
