The hotel is quite clean, met my expectations, value for money. Breakfast is good, although like many tourists on the other side of the world, we would ask that they put more Western dishes. It seems the area is a little far from the center of Beijing, but it is a clean and safe area. It has its own subway station just below the hotel, which makes it extremely connected.

Superior double room was perfect for two friends. Plenty of space. Neat room, nice desk, clean, large bathroom, only good things to say. Laundry was easy. Breakfast was delicious. I lived the german espresso machine. And hot soy milk for breakfast was very comforting. We would love to stay here again. You should download a translator app to communicate with locals including hotel staff. Shopping mall connected to hotel (different entrance)!and has all kinds of good restaurants and cafes.

This hotel is a perfect business hotel if you have meetings in this area : practical, efficient, wifi and free unlimited Internet acess.
The surroundings are mainly local shops and simple restaurants. It is also only 30 mn away from the airport by taxi.
However should you wish to visit Beijing as a tourist it is then suffering from it's outcentered location : the closest metro station is 10 mn away by taxi and a metro ride to the forbidden city is 45 mn with several line changes.

It's around an hour, by metro, from BeiJing center. Metro station is right outside the hotel. Rooms are typical holiday inn rooms, comfortable enough. Breakfast with only Chinese selections. The hotel staff doesn't speak English!!!! Swimming pool closed. Right next to a nice mall. Price a bit higher than the average prices in Beijing.

We had a group of 24 that stayed in this hotel over the course of two weeks. The purpose of our trip was to conduct English camps so we were not looking for superb lodging accommodations. Therefore, our expectations were somewhat lower going into this trip of what to expect at the hotel. Here is the good and ugly of our stay...
The Good:
1. Our reservation was negotiated and confirmed five months in advance. Kathy Yang was wonderful to work with and when we arrived our reservations were correct.
2. The hotel has multiple elevators which make it easier to get to and get from the rooms.
3. The hotel has a restaurant (breakfast primarily) located on the fourth floor. The breakfast was adequate and far from spectacular. Rice, fresh fruit, cereal, and fried eggs. One juice was offered each day and the milk is always warm (yuk!) for your cereal.
4. The rooms were clean and no-nonsense. We did not have any significant problems and this is with 10 rooms per night over two weeks.
5. The hotel gave each room two bottled waters per day at no extra charge.
6. The lobby was bright and clean with at least three areas to sit with family and friends.
7. The employees were friendly and willing to help. At least one person could speak English at the front desk.
8. The hotel has a washer and dryer on two different floors. It cost at least $5 to do a load of laundry. Tokens are purchased at the front desk.
9. We had 22 large trunks for supplies. The hotel stored the trunks for us in the lobby which was a help!
10. We stayed in rooms that were in the upper floors and therefore had beautiful views of the city around us.
Bonus - The Internet is free!
The Ugly:
1. The hotel does not exchange money. This makes no sense! You have to walk across the street and wait in a very long line at the Bank of China.
2. If you do not like smoking, hold your breath in the lobby. There was always someone smoking and it was quite annoying; especially for those with asthma problems in our group.
3. The restaurant is dirty. Although the breakfast was acceptable, the restaurant could not receive an "A" in America. There were numerous examples we could give just know that there are better alternatives.
4. There was only one person that could speak English and if that person was busy you had to wait until they were available. No one else could speak very good English.
5. The taxi situation is deplorable! The hotel will not call a taxi for you. They tell you to go to the street (50 yards away). One evening I had a meeting I had to attend. It was pouring the rain and I asked the clerk at the front desk to call a taxi. They refused twice and told me to go to the street. I did and stood in the driving rain for 25 minutes. I was completely soaked and furious with the hotel. There was no call for this as they could have easily called a taxi. The taxi drivers do not like to come to the hotel because they have to go through a security gate. (Side note: a sweet older lady saw me standing at the street in the rain and brought me an umbrella - she was adorable).
General Information:
1. There is a Burger King and Seven Eleven attached to this hotel building. Both are very convenient as we utilized both.
2. There is a McDonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC, Starbucks, and Cold Stone Creamery within easy walking distance. We used all of the above at least once during our stay.
3. There is a Wal Mart within easy walking distance of the hotel.
4. There are two banks across the street that will exchange US dollars for RMB. The exchange rate in July 2011 was 6.369 at the Bank of China.
5. A small mall is attached to the hotel with different items. It is good for walking but not so much for purchasing anything of significance.
6. This hotel is just 15 minutes from the airport.
7. You would NEVER stay at this hotel if you were going to Beijing for sightseeing. It is not close to anything and with the taxi/bus situation, everything has to be done at the street level.
8. You would only stay at this hotel if you had business to handle specific to this geographic location. There are much, much better alternatives.
9. There is not a pool.
10. There is not a work out facility.
If you do need to stay at this hotel, make your reservations with Kathy Yang in sales. She will give you a better rate than the Internet.

Several persons not wearing uniform were outside the hotel front entrance directiing traffic. We wished to unload luggage and asked that we park in front of the entrace and not block the road way, but we were told we could not park there even for a minute or two to unload. However, we saw an Audi and another vehicle parked in front of us unattended. We therefore asked how come those other cars could park there. We were told in a condescending and rude manner that those cars had made reservations 7 days prior. Are you kidding me? You'd have to make a reservation to stop your vehicle just to unload your luggage? The answer was a firm yes. The person added, you'd have to make that reservation 7 days in advance. We went inside and complained to the front desk and the person greeting us told us there was nothing they could do about it. Right. We canceled our stay right away!

I spent 5 nights at this hotel in Early December 2014. It is a newer hotel, but there is already considerable wear of furnishings. The hotel is connected to a small mall with restaurants and grocery store which is quite convenient. It seems like most of the patrons are Chinese middle management types. Breakfast is provided, but there isn't much for the Western palate. I was not too excited about the location. The nearest subway station was about a 25 minute walk away, but they were constructing a new subway line with a stop right outside the hotel. I don't know when it is due to open. The existing line that you can walk to requires 3 train changes to get to downtown Beijing. My biggest complaint was temperature control in the room. With the sun shining in the window in the late afternoon, the room would get very hot. The windows only open slightly and it was impossible to cool the room down. When I did open the window, it let in more noise (construction next door) than cool air. But at night the room would get very cold. There was a thermostat on the wall, but it did NOTHING. I asked them to come to the room to fix it twice, and a guy who spoke no English would get his tools out and pretend to do something and then close things up and smile and walk away. Whatever he did made no change. There was neither heating or cooling, and the temperature was down to 22F (-5C) outside at night. Finally after 4 days they brought in a portable electric heater that helped, but the room never got comfortable. My company secured this hotel for me, and if I had a choice I would never choose this hotel.

The rooms was awful. The ac didn’t work any suddenly the temperature went up to 28 degrees. I Complain in the reception and the only thing they provided was a portable ac which didn’t cool down the room either. The only way was close down and keep the window open. Breakfast poor of choices.

Like so many hotels in Beijing that carry International Group Branding, they just don’t get it or simply don’t care that the quality of the room is only half of the story and is not the only reason someone chooses to stay at IHG hotels.
It seems that the owners are only interested in saying they’re a global brand and nothing else. The Holiday Inn Express Huacai has nice, spacious and comfortable rooms but that is where it all stops. The IHG brand is supposed to stand for good customer service, smiles, quality in all areas and above all, superior customer service. It seems that today only the Marriott group of hotels has managed to achieve that lofty goal around the world.
Customer Service does not exist at the Holiday Inn Express Huacai. Everyone has a sour look on their face, they never smile, seem to look at foreigners as bothersome and they do not know their product. When I requested an IHG membership brochure they had no clue what I was talking about. I had to search their front desk counter and show them the membership brochures.
However, I did manage to find a bright lite and smiling face in all of this and that was Charlie, the F&B manager. I had a small issue one day and Charlie did everything in his power to make a customer, me, happy. My commendation to Charlie and please let him know how pleased I was to meet him. Use him as an example for the rest of your employees.
My suggestions,
1. Always strive to have at least one staff member on duty at the front desk that speaks good english. During my stay no one really spoke English except for Charlie the F&B manager. Again, Charlie seems to understand the IHG brand concept.
2. Train all employees to smile.
3. Train all staff on how to solve issues.
4. Have a staff member who is assigned to perform quality control and make sure all employees follow the IHG brand standard.
5. If you cannot do 1 through 4 above, then I suggest that IHG corporate take away the IHG brand name from your hotel. Hotels which behave like yours damage the brand.
Regards,
A very disappointed customer

I have stayed at many hotels in Beijing and if you are on business and need a good priced hotel in the northeast area of Beijing, this is the place to stay if you want great value.
The rooms are first rate and clean. I judge a hotel by the comfort of the bed and the Quality of its air conditioning and this place scored a 10/10 in this category.
The breakfast is standard Chinese and the lobby is very basic which was acceptable for the price of the room. The hotel is attached to a mall where you can find anything you need.
Unless you want to stay in Beijing center, have all the standard western hotel amenities, western style restaurants and menus and pay more, stay here.

Hotel is bang next door to Donghuqu station on line 14.
If I remember correctly, they should be open around 7:00AM but if not, there is a Starbucks around the corner on the ground level. The Holiday Inn Express breakfast is a basic Chinese breakfast, minimal but adequate.
