My daughter and I spent 1 week at Sonesta St. George and had a wonderful experience.

The rooms was of a high standard of luxury and comfort. We had a Nile view Balcony and I recommend this because the hotel is located directly facing the Valley of the Kings and gives an exceptional view each evening when the sun sets and the feluccas are sailing home in front of the hotel.

The hotel is immaculately presented and maintained throughout. There are plenty of staff on hand to keep the place spotless and the pool is constantly attended so that the water and the sides of the pool are always clean which you can't say about all hotel pools.

The hotel also provides services such as guest relations and tour booking. The guest relations is easy to find and they are always present to offer help and advice, if needed. We booked all our trips through the hotel - Valley of Kings, Karnak Temple, Aswan, Balloon ride, Felucca sailing etc. The trip organisation was seamless with guides arriving punctually and having excellent language skills. The transport vehicles were also of a high standard.

The hotel also has several restaurants including International, Japanese, Italian and Egyptian. The menus are very broad and the food is well prepared and plenty of it.

Overall, the Sonesta hotel provided the perfect home during our stay in Luxor.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Sonesta St George in Luxor and this time I stayed four nights. Both times I stayed in a Front Nile Room because the view from the balcony over the pool and the Nile to the West Bank is beautiful. Sunsets are spectacular, watching the feluccas sail past in the afternoon is entertaining and in the morning you can see the balloons when they fly.

Staff at check-in were friendly and we had a guest relations manager explain the layout and direct us to our rooms. Freshly re-carpeted (I think) the hotel has a clean look with other areas finished in polished stone, gleaming metal and decoration based on ancient Egypt. The lobby has enormous light features and ample seating for waiting. On the entry level there is a café with live singers in the evening, on the level above a bar and the breakfast buffet is on the lower floor. The buffet breakfast, starting officially at 6 am but seeming to be available even earlier, is extensive. It has an omelette stand (which we could also get poached eggs from), as well as eggs, hot meat dishes and Egyptian specialities from the bain-maries, dips and fresh vegetables cut for dipping, cold meats and nice fresh cheese, sliced fruit, fresh cucumber, tomatoes and olives, falafels, cereals, lots of pastries and bread with fresh juices and tea and coffee served at the table. It was my first taste of fresh honeycomb.

Our room was quiet with two comfortable chairs, good luggage storage with wardrobe hanging space, a large desk with chair and TV above and a comfortable bed. We had a mini-fridge that worked well. The balcony has two seats and a table and that great view. The bathroom is standard Egyptian shower over bath with good water pressure. The bath has spa jets in it but I didn’t try them out. The bathroom sink has ample space on both sides to put bathroom supplies. Wifi was pretty good for Egypt - OK for standard internet searching and calls and I even managed to upload quite a few of my photos.

Even in winter, the Luxor weather makes the pool a wonderful place to cool off and there are a number of outdoor areas to relax in. We had an evening flight on our departure day and Sonesta St George was able to give us a very generous late checkout. Even if that had not been possible, the hotel will hold your bags and you are able to access the sitting and eating areas as well as the pool, toilets and showers.

The hotel is in downtown Luxor about two to three kilometers from the Luxor Temple and Luxor Museum. We did a number of walks, one to the Museum and some other explorations of surrounding areas. We even found a small supermarket nearby with fixed prices to stock up on a few things. I recommend, on leaving the hotel, to cross the street and walk away from the Nile to the shopping streets about a block up. This will take you to the Luxor Market and after that you head back down to the wide Korniche on the Nile for the rest of the walk. Taking this way reduces being accosted by the felucca, horse cab and taxi touts and there are also some sections of the Korniche not directly on the road which were surprising free of it too and have some good restaurants.

Having stayed in many hotels in Luxor this is simply the best. This will be my 31st time staying here so I suppose people may think I'm biased but this is a sincere and genuine review. We were upgraded to a Royal Club room on arrival, which was a lovely surprise. The hotel has undergone a significant refurbishment over the past few years and while we were there the downstairs restaurant was being refurbished and was closed. Breakfast was taken on the 9th floor which had terrific views. The refurbishment did not cause any inconvenience and access to the pool area was via the Italian restaurant. As usual, every part of the hotel was very clean and the staff always treated you in a professional and friendly manner.
Special mention must go to Usama in Nobles bar who is excellent at his job and a great ambassador for the hotel, and also to Nagha around the pool who provides excellent friendly service. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard every day and nothing was too much trouble for the cleaners. We ate in the Japanese restaurant on 2 occasions and on each occasion the food was of a high standard. There was a very good breakfast selection and you could order eggs cooked in a variety of ways. The hotel location is perfect and you can walk to many of the attractions on the east bank. The refurbishments should be completed in the next few months and I look forward to seeing the end result when we return in April 2024. Thank you to everyone at the hotel who made our stay so memorable and enjoyable. See you all next April.

Stunning location frontage doesn’t look anything special but out the back the pool area is stunning on the Nile with a swim up bar and I’d recommend eating dinner at sunset on the terrace there’s no need to have a Nile cruise if you do this. Prices are very reasonable including the gift shop you have no risk to leave this hotel unless sightseeing. However there’s a few people that are constantly want tips especially if you tips them once, the worst is the door guy who tried to carry a rucksack for us when all we wanted was to go for a drink after long day out and Nagha the Pool server, she does work very hard and is very friendly so in our first day we tipped her well, then the next day she only served us a couple of times and when we paid exact questioned it the n day 3 she was like a fly I wanted to squash. Peter who also works poolside was lovely, helpful and just the right amount of attentiveness and never expected tips so he got a nice one when we left. Be prepared for separate non moving beds and a weird pillow set up. Breakfast isn’t the best though.

The hotel is a real gem for travelers.

The rooms are spacious, stylishly furnished and equipped with modern comforts. Many have balconies with Nile views, which make every morning a special experience. The cleanliness and daily maid service are outstanding.

Several restaurants serve fresh, varied food, from authentic Egyptian cuisine to international specialities. The breakfast buffet is particularly varied and of high quality.

The pool area is perfect for relaxing.
Of particular note is the extremely attentive and cordial staff, who always strive to provide guests with an all-round perfect experience.

Whether for couples, families or solo travelers, the hotel is an excellent choice for an unforgettable holiday in Egypt.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a Saga package. We received a warm welcome on arrival and our party were all given a complementary hibiscus drink whilst rooms were allocated.

Our package included all meals, which were served in the buffet restaurant, although I believe some of the group opted to use the Japanese restaurant one evening. The buffet was varied and we always managed to find something to eat. The staff were friendly and obliging. One evening there was a pianist in the restaurant. We also received two free drinks with our meals as part of the package.

The rooms were spacious and clean, and we were lucky to get a side view of the Nile. The room was serviced twice a day, and our attendant would tip up toiletries, tea, coffee and also decorate with flowers!

The public areas were comfortable, with a pleasant bar/cafe area which was open 24 hours a day. Drinks and water were reasonably priced. The waiter staff were friendly and welcoming.

There is a lovely pool area, which large gardens to explore. The pool attendant was always on hand to provide towels and would obligingly move the parasols to give us plenty of shade!

There are a few gift shops on site, but we did not visit these.

All in all, this is a good base to start a Nile cruise.

We stayed two times at the elegant Sonesta St. George hotel in Luxor first for one night on arrival to Egypt and then for three nights after a Dahabiya cruise. We appreciated having our standard room upgraded each time at no extra charge as we were fortunate to visit in a not busy week. All of the staff were professional, courteous, friendly, respectful and helpful. Our morning wait staff included Tarek who always had a smile and extra napkins for me and also Eman who kept our tea cups hot and filled and served us an excellent sandwich and chips poolside one afternoon. I highly recommend this hotel for its beautiful decor throughout, outstanding breakfast buffet, the food was fresh and high quality. We enjoyed the Italian restaurant one evening and had the option of several local restaurants and pubs directly across the street. We paced our days to 4-5 hours of visiting the many Luxor area archeological sites in the mornings, enjoyed the pool through the afternoons and relaxed with dinner enjoying the live music provided by a very talented and lovely singer from Ukraine each evening in the cafe/bar area May 17, 18 & 19. We enjoyed breakfast in 3 different locations - original area on bottom floor, then in Italian restaurant and then in the 9th floor Nefertiti banquet room as the hotel was doing small renovation and then hosting a business conference on our two last days. We certainly enjoyed the perk of the 9th floor view over the Nile that morning. Mr Hany Nabil at the excursion desk helped arrange a car and driver to meet us at the Luxor airport the first night of our arrival which went very smoothly. We had booked excursions with different guides but I know Mrs Nabil would be able to assist us with any additional needs or excursions. We are celebrating our empty nest but this hotel would be a good choice for families with children as well. The hotel management was very responsive in their email communication and provided names and WhatsApp contact for excursion manager.

Stayed 3 nights and 2 days before a Nile Cruise. A good place to aclimatise prior to the cruise. We had a side view Nile view room looking over the Nile towards the Valley of the Kings. The daily dawn Hot Air Ballons, too many to count, were a special sight as the sun was rising.
The Buffet restaurant was well stocked for our full board option. We were part of a group so had allocated tables for meals. We were advised not to drink the local water and even to use bottled to make tea/coffee in the room.
Overall a nice hotel with very helpful/friendly staff. Clean uncrowded pool area again serviced by helpful/happy attendants.
The reason for the visit was the Nile Cruise and this gave us a good starting point in Luxor.

No hotel is perfect, and the Sonesta does have a few weak areas, but the overall standard is very good.

Let's start with the not so good. The Wifi is a bit patchy and struggles a lot in the early evening. It can also randomly die a death on your phone, requiring a few additional expeditions to reception to grab a new password and username. But, despite its limitations, it is generally adequate to the task.

The Sonesta is also an adopter of the infernal room keycard technology that loses the ability to open your door when held within throwing distance of a mobile phone. Sadly this seems to be true of most hotels these days.

Everything else, however, ranges from good to excellent.

The beds are comfy and the rooms are served with a genuinely good air-conditioning system. Cleaning is well done, with Sabrey doing a fine job and generally being extremely helpful and cheerful whenever we met him.

The breakfast is well worth it, with omelettes cooked freshly as requested, an impressive fruit salad, and plenty of pancakes, cakes, cereals, and juices.

The swimming pool is of a decent size, and once again is well attended by a good company of very pleasant and genuinely helpful staff.

The bathroom is a good size, clean, and contains an impressive shower.

Overall, a very good hotel in a good location with great staff, and at a very reasonable price.

Wonderful stay for 2 days this hotel made our trip perfect. Even on check-in my disability was taken into account with a free upgrade of our room. I really couldn’t have visited all the historical locations without the amazing spa bath to relax in at the end of the day. It was a stress free stay further enhanced by the Guest Relation staff, especially Maviey & Catherine who were oustanding - courteous, polite, & so helpful in every way. Nothing was too much to trouble at all and always with a friendly smile. They both deserve recognition by senior managers. Nardine & Cathrine’s sister also deserve a mention, a really professional but friendly customer service team who work well together. The housekeeping, breakfast & dinner staff couldn’t have been any better with delicious food and drink. Location is perfect sitting on & overlooking the Nile with views of the West Bank, really relaxing and worth every penny. Will definitely return for a longer stay and highly recommend!

I've never asked for smoothies, but I'm sure if you explain what one is they would do their best. Fresh fruit juices are served every day, and they really are fresh.
