The Palau Vacation Hotel is a hotel built by Chinese for Chinese tour groups and has very limited capability to serve the needs of Westerners or business travelers though I am sure that the Chinese tourists that it is built to accommodate find it quite nice and generally a good place to stay. But for the business traveller, it is not recommended. The rooms have no central lighting and only two small LED table lamps are present, it is so dark that it is difficult to find things in bags let alone sort out materials for work. There is no work desk or chair where you can put a laptop on top of the desk and pull a chair up to comfortably work with the computer. Electric outlets are a strange combination of a Japanese/American style socket on top and an Australian standard socket on the bottom. They will not accept US plugs that are polarized either with three prongs or a two pronged plug with one prong wider than the other. Fortunately I have an adapter for Australian sockets so was able to plug in my computer. The staff was very helpful and brought me more lamps (and turned them upside down so they illuminate the white ceiling rather than the dark colored table — that made a huge difference). They also managed to jury rig a sort of small desk with a folding chair that was ok for working with my computer. The WiFi was awful and I was only able to consistently get a reasonably reliable (but very slow) connection in the back of the restaurant. It was unusable in the room. For reasons that are not clear, there were very few visitors resident in the hotel and at breakfast (a decent buffet style Chinese breakfast) only one or two tables were occupied by persons not part of my 10 person conference group. It was possible on some days to order food from the menu for a few hours in the evening, but it had few selections of interest to me though the menu may be great for the Chinese tourist. Fortunately there are many small restaurants near by so that was not a problem except when it rained. The location of the hotel is fair, though about a 30 minute walk ($6 taxi) to the main shopping areas on Koror. I stayed a week and for the first few days, there was plenty of hot water but after mid-week that luxury disappeared though the water in the shower was never really shockingly cold so it was ok. In summary, as a business person working attending a technical conference that was being held in Koror, the Palau Vacation hotel was not a good choice and after the conference was completed, I also changed hotels to one of the many small hotels on the island that cater to business persons and other island visitors traveling alone or with family members. I do really appreciate the staff — all from the Philippines —for their efforts to make my stay a good one and to try to meet my needs. Without them helping me get the room well lit and furnished for work, I would have had to move, I could not have done my work properly. One caution, the restaurant tables in the back of the restaurant that are in outdoor area of the restaurant have a nice breeze and are quite pleasant in the morning. But after dark they are plagued with mosquitoes.

We stayed here our last three nights in Palau. This hotel is right on the main road but we were on the other side of the hotel so its was quiet. There is no access to the water at this hotel. Across the street is Long Island Park for swimming and snorkeling. We were allowed early check-in which was nice. Our bags were delivered to our rooms. We went into town and came back for dinner. There were very few guests. There had just been a large Chinese Holiday and the restaurant was out of food and alcohol. Every time we tried to order the waiter came back and said they were out. It was getting to the point I was starting to feel sorry for the guy. Anyway, that wes the last time we ate dinner there. Breakfast was included in the stay. There was tea, juice, toast, lettuce for salad, made to order eggs (were out of eggs one morning), bacon or wieners, one kind of fruit, and some kind of Chinese soup. Really rather sad compared to the other large resorts. This hotel truly caters to the Chinese. One front desk person had a very hard time understanding English on the telephone or in person. She did try. Several other front desk young ladies were very well read in English. The rooms were clean but the halls smelled rather musty. Won't be surprised if this hotel is gone on our next visit.

Decent hotel. Caters mainly to the mainland Chinese group tours. Wifi only in the lobby and very weak at best. Nice area on the water to have breakfast. The lighting in all the rooms are the dimmest lighting I have ever experienced in any hotel. Turn the lamps upside down to get better lighting but still will be dark in your room in the evenings.
