2022 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
The Villa Brown Jerusalem, the newest addition to the Brown Hotels group, is a 24-room boutique hotel that redefines contemporary hospitality in the holy city. Just a five minute walk to Jerusalem's old city sites and situated in the heart of the bustling city center. Known as the 'Grande Dame' of the Brown Hotels collection, the Villa Brown Jerusalem is housed within a one-time private villa from the 19th-century. The hotel's distinct aesthetic is a multilayered interpretation of East-Meets-West, merging Neoclassical British Mandate, Ottoman and Eclectic-design-styles with contemporary interior influences, exemplified through velvety pigments of red, emerald and mauve that adorn the public and private spaces throughout the property.

Started off badly when we were invited to upgrade our room to a deluxe through the website. After we checked in and got to our room we found it was small, threadbare carpets, stained upholstery, cigarette burns and not what we thought we had booked. When we questioned this at reception we were told the room we requested was never available and the hotel was fully booked so we should lump it. BEWARE - we asked the upgrade fee be refunded and it hasn’t. Contrary to many of the reviews we found the staff unhelpful, surely and disinterested. In the mornings we would come drown for breakfast and find them spread out lying over the chairs in the restaurant: our presence quite clearly a nuisance. One evening we came back to the receptionist smoking and drinking around a fire pit outside - less than professional. Everything we ask for help with didn’t happen. Because we were going to Jordan for a night we asked if we could leave our bags with them for an extra day when they would be collected by our other hotel - we were told no. We asked if we could have a couple of breakfast bits put in a bag on our final day as we were checking out before breakfast started - we were told yes, then on the morning we again disturbed the staff who were laying in the restaurant that no, that wouldn’t be happening. Generally speaking, the property is poorly maintained and the rooms are extremely poor. Our experience was that the people working there were rude and generally hostile. One to be avoided.

I stayed at Villa Brown for two nights in May 2022. I booked a ‘classic’ room at a rate of over $300 a night. Unfortunately the hotel fell way below my expectations. As per some earlier reviews, my ground floor room was very dark and small. The carpet was worn and it felt very claustrophobic. There was no fridge or hairdryer provided, and nowhere to hang or store clothes. The air conditioner was also very noisy. The bathroom was tiny and so poorly designed that my partner banged his head on the sink while using the toilet. When I complained to reception, we were offered an alternative room, but this was even smaller and had a low ceiling with beams which also looked hazardous. On the plus side, the food and service at breakfast was excellent. However on our last day we had to leave early, before the breakfast service started. I asked reception if it would be possible to arrange a takeaway breakfast on that day, and they agreed - and yet the following morning, we were told we could not have this. Generally the attitude of the staff seemed disinterested and apathetic toward the guests, however certain members of the team were friendly and helpful. For the price paid, I was expecting a lot more from Villa Brown, and left disappointed. I would not recommend this hotel, unless they seriously reduce their room rates.

I will am not going to have a never-ending list of pluses and minus. The only thing I can say is that I had my concerns about this hotel. I was about the cancel it because every time I called the front desk, the staff would not pick it up or would put me on hold forever. Thankfully all my concerns vanished when I met Ofer. Ofer is the manager, a truly dedicated individual that wants to make a difference. He and the spectacular breakfast is what makes this place special. I was truly not able to eat anything till Dinner time. The amount of food and quality of the Breakfast is just beyond. Shalom

This is a trip I will never forget. Villa Brown Jerusalem was an amazing hotel. Their staff is the sweetest staff I have ever met. Salomon and another staff member (I don’t have his name) we’re both caring and made sure we were well taken care of. They went out of their way. Thank you so much. I will make sure I stay in Villa Brown the next trip to Israel.
