AJWA Sultanahmet enjoys acclaim for its central location and opulent atmosphere, with guests reveling in the traditional décor and Ottoman-inspired touches. While the luxurious amenities, including a praised spa and swimming pool, receive high marks, the limited access to some facilities and lack of alcohol are noted drawbacks. Guests laud the exceptional service, though opinions on value and room attributes vary, with some dissatisfaction regarding room size and natural lighting. The hotel's cleanliness is consistently celebrated, adding to the overall positive experience.

We had a three night, long weekend stay in this luxurious 5* hotel in the SultanAhmet district of old Istanbul.

The whole hotel is exquisitely decorated and stylish. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a ritual of dates and holy water from Medina to welcome you to the accommodation along with an explanation of the history, mission and architecture of the hotel and it’s founders.

The rooms were tastefully decorated with luxurious furniture, comfortable king size bed and modern bathroom with robes, slippers and a variety of fluffy luxurious towels. All the soaps, shampoos, shaving, dental and other supplies are from Molton Brown. No expense spared.

As noted by other reviewers, there is an abundance of free refreshments, sweets and snacks in a well stocked mini bar, which is replenished daily. Two TVs, plenty of charge points, USB sockets and network connection if required. Free WiFi is also included.

Overall the hotel is a lovely mix of old luxurious charm and fresh modernity. It’s in a quiet residential area but usefully close to all the ancient sites, mosques and grand bazar plus a main shopping street. Lots of places to eat are nearby as well as tram, ferries and buses if you want to travel like a local or cross the Bosphorous to Anatolia, the Asian side of Istanbul.

The breakfast is included and plentiful. The food is authentic, varied and delicious. The waiting staff friendly and ready to oblige. The view across the Bosphorus is fabulous.

There is a beautiful spa and pool area with add on treatments available . Our only misgiving for the stay is that men and women are not permitted to use the facilities at the same time due to the traditionally religious ethos of the hotel. This means couples can’t swim or sauna together unless they rent the space exclusively as an add on to their stay. The price quoted was more than 100 euros for a late night 2 hour session which felt just a little excessive given the overall cost to stay here. Maybe it’s more suited to families who not unreasonably would like pool time together. Nevertheless, we respect the hotel’s ethos and so reluctantly used the pool separately from each other.

Lastly, we were provided a personal minibus to and from the airport at a minimal charge. Perfect.

All in all Ajwa is a fabulously stylish hotel in a well placed location. It certainly deserves its 5* status and we’d be happy to visit again.

We had a lovely 5 day stay here during the rainy winter season. Location is no more than 10 minutes' walk to the main sights (they offer a free hourly shuttle but walking is often quicker due to traffic). The room was luxuriously appointed with mother of pearl furniture and silk carpets. By far the best perk was the free minibar. Not having to pay for water/beverages and snacks during our entire stay was worth this hotel alone. Service was prompt and courteous. Bathroom amenities were Molton Brown, and included many wonderful extras such as bath salts and exfoliating pads. Chocolates for turndown service, and a New Year's dessert were provided free of charge which were very nice touches.

A few small things that may take away from a truly 5 star experience include the fact that the bath/shower drain was extremely slow to the point where at first two people could not shower without the entire tub filling. I had to call housekeeping to look at the drain. Also, the design of the shower is such that water leaked all over the bathroom floor (the glass curtain does not extend very far). Lower floor rooms are right across from office/craft workshop buildings which means you need to keep the curtains closed unless you want people looking directly in your window. The hotel offers a complimentary one-way airport transfer for reservations of 7 nights or more and it would have been nice to receive that perk for a 5 night stay, especially in the winter season.

The restaurant had beautiful views, but the breakfast was 25 euro per person. Thankfully, Mivan Restaurant and Cafe right next door serves outstanding breakfast for less than $5 per person.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay.

The hotel is a ten minute walk to the Topkapi Palace and all the major sights in Sultanahmet.
Our delux room (108) was on the first floor on the corner of the building with no view. The daily complimentary chocolates and fruit were very much appreciated. The room and bathroom are beautifully furnished and equipped; it is a pity the sink area in the bathroom is cramped and why does the sink plug not push down (this is not a haman)?
Four stars for the room but a definite five stars for the staff and the restaurant. Everbody working in the hotel went overboard to make us welcome and nothing was too much to ask of them.
The restaurant in the evening on the top floor serves delicious food from Azerbaijan and Erol, extremely professional and helpful, patiently guided us through the exotic menu on the three evenings we ate there; all the dishes are reasonably priced. The breakfasts are also excellent and Emrullah with his big smile was there each morning to greet us.
Also special mention to Volkan and Ferhat in the lobby and not forgetting beautiful Negar who all went out of their way to make our stay a very special one.

This is a fantastic hotel! Everyone at the hotel is extremely nice, hospitable and wonderfully professional. From the moment we entered we were greeted with such respect, and were in awe with the aesthetics of the hotel. It is decorated with a really traditional Turkish feel, and the hotel, from the lobby to the room and the bathroom, is always kept extremely clean. We particularly loved the little amenities we were given throughout our stay like the dates to greet us. They even offered transportation to the main square in the old city. Nevertheless, the location is perfect for seeing everything in old city, including the blue mosque and grand bazaar which are within walking distance. Anyone visiting Istanbul should stay at this hotel!!

We had a great experience at Ajwa hotel on our trip to Istanbul, stayed from 16th-20th December, our arranged airport pickup was there to greet us on time when we reached from Chicago
On arrival at the hotel, check in was quick and efficient. Aseda welcomed us with Zum Zum drink and Ajwa dates, explained amenities, gave detailed information about the city and sightseeing options and took us to our room
We stayed in Family suite as our son was also with us, room was spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated, well stocked with complimentary snacks & beverages. Hotel location was ideal with walking distance to all major attractions in Sultanahmet district but away from crowded city center.
Breakfast was included in our package, had a lot of variety and great service, everyone in the breakfast area was courteous and helpful and made it a very pleasant experience. Enjoyed beautiful sunrise on Marmara sea while enjoying sumptuous breakfast
Though all the staff at Ajwa were extremely helpful and professional, we want to especially mention Aseda, Kerem and Emrah, who were always pleasant and went over and above to help out.
Loved our stay at Ajwa, would definitely recommend to everyone

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed, given some complimentary dates and water and told a little bit about the hotel by the concierge. The room was beautifully decorated, luxurious and spotlessly clean. All snacks and drinks in the minibar were complimentary - there was a wide variety and everything was replenished daily. A variety of lovely toiletries were also included - it had everything that we could need. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Room service was good and prices were very reasonable. The only thing to note is that we chose a wall garden view room and there was hardly any natural light getting in at all. We would choose a different room next time for that reason. However, overall our stay was absolutely wonderful and we will definitely be going back.

1st impression is always key but I must say, when we arrived I thought we have chosen a wrong hotel. However, it is completely the opposite.

Friendly and warmly greeted by the front desk with easy check in. We booked 3 rooms (2 connecting + 1). Lobby is small but we didn't really need one or stay long at all.

We liked the designs which were traditional and authentic. All in-room amenities are there and sanitized with individual packing e.g. towels are individually packed with cloth bags and cups are cleaned and wrapped. No problem with wifi and internet.

Great service at the front desk, concierge and guest services and they gave good advice on all tourist information. A point to mention is the recommended restaurant - Efendy - we had a fantastic lunch at this restaurant run by a local celebrity chef.

Breakfast is served at R floor overlooking the sea. We also tried their dinner, and it was surprisingly beyond our expectation. Services are excellent and pricing is very reasonable.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Excellent location to all tourist spots. Finally, I must give Salih (concierge) special praise as he was always there when we needed him, always smiling, friendly and helpful. He's a big credit to this wonderful hotel.

Hospitality and service from the staff was second to none, genuinely lovely people. From the cleaners to front of house, they remembered every detail and accommodated our every request. Kerem on concierge was especially hospitable, lovely man.

Breakfast was brilliant, massive selection and so many little touches, like exquisite homemade sweets and halva. Something for everyone, buffet and a la carte menu to choose from.

One thing I felt uncomfortable with was the over use of plastic and as this is a point of contention on the world stage now, I feel this should be addressed. Plastic was used to cover every single teaspoon, glass, cup in our rooms on a daily basis. Quite unnecessary and I hope they change this.

Some things in the room could have been better designed to make us feel more comfortable. For example, there is no cupboard space or anywhere to unpack and store clothes so we had to live out of the suitcase.

The pool area was lovely, very clean. The use of this is divided into male and female sessions which suited me very well. I was able to swim with my child comfortably because of this.

The food menu prices are inflated. I usually don’t mind this as it’s expected with the calibre of hotel, but the food wasn’t good. I avoided eating at the hotel because of this.

Overall, I would probably look elsewhere for a place to stay in the city. There are so many options and with the price paid for this accommodation, I could find something which would suit me better. I do feel this place is not the best value for money.

I never usually write reviews but I felt compelled on this occasion due to how good the experience was.

Location
The location is excellent. It is nearby many popular sites such as the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazar, Sultan Ahmet square and Topkapi palace. There are also many shops and places to eat in the area.

Interior design of hotel
The hotel has a beautiful design and it is very clean. It looks like an old Ottoman building whilst having a modern feel also.

Rooms
The rooms are very well equipped. They had everything you require in the bathrooms so you won't even need any of your toiletries. Also if you need anything else (like an iron or a plug adapter) the staff will arrange this quickly.

Housekeeping and room service
They will do housekeeping each day and re-equip the room as if it is your first night. Room service is also quick and very helpful.

Staff and customer service
This has to be the highlight of the hotel. The staff are unbelievably friendly and helpful. You feel like you can ask them for help with anything and they will do everything possible to assist you. They are willing to go out of their way to ensure the guests feel comfortable and have a good stay in Istanbul. They also have an excellent concierge service which can arrange excursions for you. They also have a shuttle service which can take you to any part of the old city for free.

We had an issue with our flights and Mr Kerem and Mr Volkan went out of their way to sort out the problem for us. They literally spent a full day arguing with the airline for us until the issue was resolved.

Mr Kerem, if you read this, you are truly the king of concierges!

Sometimes you get what you pay for but in this case this 5 star hotel provided a 7 star service. Ajwa hotel is the best in Istanbul.

All manner of Turkish goodies. You’ll love it. Fruit, sweet and savoury pastries, omelette, cold cuts, every kind of white and yellow cheese imaginable and lots of varieties of bread and rolls. Juices, squashes and vegetable drinks. Tea and coffee and other traditional Turkish hot drinks. You can request a few additions (like scrambled eggs, Turkish sausage etc) at an extra charge but there really is no need. The buffet is really varied and quite abundant.
