Pros:

1) friendly and very helpful staff
2) free breakfast was good - included omelets made to order and a tray of dried fruits and nuts with yogurt, veggies, etc.
3) Good restaurant (same as the breakfast room)
4) balconies
5) very clean rooms and soft towels/linens
6) fast laundry service
7) free transport to the airport (I think only one way is free)
8) room did NOT smell like smoke, which is great for Central Asia

Cons:

1) neighborhood is sketchy at night - front desk told me not to leave the hotel at night.
2) receiving a call at 9 PM asking if I wanted (girls, massage, sex). Maybe this is a Pro for some, but for me it was a Con
3) not quite in the best part of town - had to walk to everything, and the longer I stayed here, the more I wished I was about four blocks away

You can stay at a nicer place but it will cost you a lot more money. For Bishkek, this isn't a bad place for the money.

There are 2 totally different operations going on here. The old Dostuk Soviet Style hotel and the Club Dostuk Hotel 5th Floor which is renovated to European Standards and what this review is about.

When you go into the hotel go immediately to the elevator to the 5th floor. The bottom floor is for the rest of the hotel which is mainly used by locals or those on an extreme budget.

Once you get off the elevator on the 5th floor the check in desk is on the right.

The hotel staff speak fluent English and are extremely nice and helpful.

Try to get a room with an odd number so you have your balcony overlooking Victory Square and a beautiful view of the mountains. The back side even numbered rooms are the same, but just a view of other apartment buildings.

The room is small but clean with hot water and a very comfortable bed. The wi-fi works great, but keep in mind it's Bishkek, so it does go in and out at times. Nothing the hotel can do about that, it's just the way it is in all of Bishkek. The water was hot and the shower and bathroom clean

You have a small fridge with a mini bar in it that includes beer, water, coke, fanta and snacks.

The do have a night club in the hotel but I never went to it since it doesn't even open until midnight and doesn't get much or a crowd until around 1 to 2 am or so. At least that's what the night club staff told me.

The balcony is small but nice and you can take in a great view overlooking the city and Victory Square Park. The park has what we dubbed the "eternal flame", which isn't so eternal a few months back when the city didn't pay it's gas bill and it was shut off for a few days. Such is Bishkek.

Victory square is a popular place for many weddings to take place. It's worth a walk to view the eternal flame up close. If you continue to the left the Red Center is a nice shopping place. It has many different shops and even a liquor store.

If you want a really great meal within walking distance, walk out of the front of the hotel and take a left. Cross the street and just a little ways down is a LA'ZURRO RESTAURANT. It's expensive for Bishkek, but in my opinion one of the best places to eat or grab a couple of drinks and relax. They have excellent Lebanese and Italian food. When you walk in to the left is the nice more formal looking part and to the right is the more relaxed and cozy bar area with big screen TV's. During the summer you can also sit outside on the deck or under the patio.

Other points of interest nearby is a bowling alley, the Tsum or Zum shopping mall. Plenty of restaurants and coffee shops. Almost everything will be off of Frunze or Chui Street. Best to ask the staff for directions or take a taxi.

You should not pay more than 100 Kyrgyz Soms (KGS) (about $2 USD) for a taxi just about anywhere in the city. If they try to charge more and you have a local cell phone dial 156 for Express Taxi. Express Taxi speaks English and charges 100 KGS ($2 USD) or 400 KGS (about $8) to the airport. If you don't have a local cell phone have the hotel staff call Express Taxi for you.

Overall I think Bishkek is a fairly safe place compared to other major cities I've stayed at. Late at night though there are problems with drunks, muggings and prostitution and the city tends to turn off a lot of the street lights to save money on electricity. If you do walk late at night, stay on the main streets and avoid walking through the parks at night. During the day you should have no issues at all.

The hotel is located just outside the city-centre, near the WW2 memorial, on the 5th floor of a flat. To reach the hotel, just take the elevator up to the 5th and suddenly you're in a western style hotel.

The rooms are clean but not very spacious. The beds are good, as well as the shower and bathroom.

The neighbourhood is ok at daytime, but a nighttime not the place to go for a walk (or you must be in need of prostitutes..), the hotels warns you fot this.

The price of the room includes a taxiride to or from the airport, which is nice.

During our trip planning we chose Hotel Dostuk. We arrived in the city at about 3 am and arrived to hotel at about 5am only to find an old, dirty and smelly room. A total loss of time in any standard:(

Next morning we realised that there is an other Hotel Dostuk at the 5th floor of the same building : Club Hotel Dostuk which is only 10 USD expensive than the first one. You can justify this extra 10USD with the existence of free Wi-Fi.

Club Dostuk is definitely a value for money hotel to stay with clean and tidy rooms, a superior looking restaurant and all-day long wi-fi.

This place will satisfy the lesser than Hyatt standards...

I need to revise my former opinion about the Dostuk hotel. One thing though....
Before I stayed in the Kyrgyz part of the hotel (reception downstairs) and which is NOT the CLUB hotel Dostuk situated on the 5th floor. I believe it is still bad!
Club Hotel Dostuk is a very nice hotel and we already where afraid that we would have to take this hotel again (there was no other hotel available). But fortunately it is OK now.
Nice and clean rooms, only need to ask every day (we where there more then one day) for more towels. Only one set of towels for two persons is of course not nice. But good speaking English staff and very friendly.
Breakfast was reasonable and enough for me. Coffee is instant coffee, but not too bad. Omelet, porrigde or sausages can be ordered and only the fruit was of an inferior quality. However for Kyrgyz standard sufficiently to my opinion. I was never in Hyatt but for 300$ / night I cannot agree in such countries.
Nice to know: They have there own hot water supply so we could have a hot bath. At the time we where there, the city was without hot water (maintenance of District Heating System).

There is nothing to say good about this hotel except the people at the reception. They really try their best but there is not much they can do. I guess the good comments here are for the club hotel which is a floor in Dostuk Hote. The ordinary hotel is very very old. This is the oldest one I have ever seen. I do not mean old in age. Nearly all furniture are broken.
Dostuk hotel is 70+10% dollars per night. This is for foreigners. If you are a Kyrgyz citizen you pay 45 dollars.
I have to accept that it is close to city center but at night you cannot go out. Even the garden of the hotel is completely dark!

First thing to know here is that there are two separate enterprises going on under one (very big) roof: the vintage Soviet-era Dostuk Hotel operating to all appearances unchanged; and a separate hostelry being called the Club Dostuk located on the 5th floor (the subject under review). A strange arrangement, or part of a trend conjured up as a b-school textbook exercise, the Club Dostuk is everything the larger Dostuk is not: renovated, small-scale, equivalent to an IBIS in style, comprised of about 30 rooms, two of which provide the space for the (included) breakfast service, which is varied and will be prepared to request. Just ask. You can't turn around in the small hallway without bumping into hotel employees: ubiquitous security patrols the space between the elevator and the desk, which is staffed by English-proficient youth rotelike, a preview of what Kyrgystan will be like if/when neo-liberalism ever arrives. Room itself is small, cozy -- apparently comfortable bed space the key asset here, and sleeping conditions are good. Bathrooms with fully-functioning systems are another selling point. Side of building facing away from Victory Square was quiet. Included with internet and Cable TV that has one channel of each language, although most guests appeared to be biznesmen, Russian-speaking. For guest to visit after 11 pm, charge is twenty dollars. Airport pick-up and drop-off is included in the $90 room rate, or it may not be. A good place to stay if you're romping a weekend in Bishkek. Dostuk nightclub not especially popular, but others nearby although you'll need to rely on cabs.

First of all this hotel was listed as a four star hotel in the site I used to make the booking and I’m sure that it’s not a four star hotel, it’s not even a three star hotel, if I’m generous I will give a two star only.
This hotel strangely is on the fifth floor of another hotel. The elevators are extremely slow, I think they might be from the Soviet era.
The rooms are small, dirty, and not well maintained at all.
The bathroom is extremely small especially the shower space, you really have to squeeze your self into it.
All TV channels are in Russian.
The breakfast is extremely bad and not worthy at all. You can till that the cucumber is couple of days old, and when I asked for egg omelette it came with egg and milk only, no option to add anything at all.
Now some hotels compensate for all of the above with good service, but unfortunately I can’t say the same thing about this one. The service is completely bad from all the front desk staff, it seems that all of them are forced to work their. I didn’t see any of them smile during the entire 5 days I was their, they were not helpful at all.
The only good thing about it is it’s location, it’s just a cross Victory square.
For sure I will not stay at this hotel again.

Dostuk used to be a old-style cavernous cold Soviet hotel. The new Club Hotel is the opposite, personal, charming, welcoming and warm, excellent staff, well-appointed rooms. The Club restaurant, Prego, serves a first rate breakfast and also tasty fresh hot dishes at noon and at night, although mostly we ate out at night. For anyone on a first or later visit to Bishkek (and the city is beautiful and well worth the visit) I recommend this hotel enthusiastically.
