Yup Matachica is paradise on earth: the beautiful Casitas just sitting in front of the sea, the waves the crash metres from you! Everything in the hotel is perfect: complete relaxation! No telephone or TV but a very good WI-FI allow you to be in touch. The pool is great and the

Thank you so much for your kind review. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the sea, the pool and the rooms and most importantly, that you took advantage of our vision of leaving TV and home behind, and enjoying a unique experience away from 'reality' in a very special country. Indeed, the Sargassum has been a recurring issue, off and on without warning. We have gone for months without any sign of it, and then, without warning, we awake to it. As you kindly point out, our wonderful maintenance staff works diligently, beginning early each day, to ensure that our guests enjoy the beach during the peak hours. Again, I am so glad that you had such a positive experience with us and I hope to see you back soon. Thank you for taking the time to comment. It is most appreciated. Warm Regards, Daniel Lighter Owner

We stayed at Matachica for 10 days of restoration and relaxation ... we did not want to leave! Cannot say enough about this resort. We have never been anywhere like it. The quiet, the service, the food, the people (too many to mention, but Margret, Ernesto, Robin, Godwin, Edwin,

Had a marvelous dinner at Matachica. They picked us up and dropped us off by boat and it was a wonderful ride back and forth. Party of seven, we had very tasty appetizers and I had a seared tuna steak that was the best I have ever had. Dessert was spectacular. Highly recommend.

Thank you so much for your review. It's always wonderful to hear from our Mambo Restaurant guests who took advantage of our great menu, fresh ingredients and surroundings. And yes, the boat ride back and forth is just gorgeous-especially under a full moon! Regards, Daniel Lighter

Stayed here for 4 nights at the end of a busy tour of Guatemala and Belize. We had a sea view bungalow which was a generous size, clean and comfortable. The A/C worked well but I have to ask why the duvets need to be so warm in such a climate? The bathroom was lovely and the

Thank you so much for taking the time to review the hotel. I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay. You are absolutely right about 'secret beach', a spot that I personally don't recommend, though some of our guests seem to enjoy the 'action'. Matachica, as you point out, is definitely NOT about that, but rather a quiet get away from the bustle of both San Pedro and of course, home. I'm pleased that you were able to take in the relaxing experience that we work so hard to deliver and that you had the chance to enjoy those amazing loungers on the pier! Thank you again for your comments, Daniel Lighter

No. When we visited, the beach was covered with thick seaweed that had to be cleaned up every morning. Most people can't swim at the beach and have to take a kayak out. Not sure if you can fish off the dock but we didn't see anyone doing that. You can email the resort, they are very responsive.

The seaweed (sargassum) is a real concern (very thick and VERY smelly), that said the Matachica does have the cleanest beach area of what we have seen (they seem to have people working on it all day). It kind of depends on what kind of holiday you are looking for - if you are planning to be snorkeling/diving/kayaking/sailing and being out on the reef (like us) the seaweed isn’t a big deal, but if you want to lounge on the beach, I would give it a miss. Hope that helps!

In my experience, rain was not a problem. We had one early morning rain storm. The other days may have had a short shower. The only thing we were worried about was with the formation of any hurricaned off of the coast of Africa. It was very warm, however. They supply bug spray in the huts but the mosquitos are impossible to escape in the huts located off of the beach.
