We have lived in DC Metro area for four decades and we love the fireworks on the 4th of July. To celebrate a special birthday, my husband and I treated my daughter and her family to an overnight stay at the State Plaza. Our planning research showed us this place was walking distance to prime fireworks viewing near the Lincoln Memorial. We had a 1BR suite and a twin queen suite to accommodate us and our daughter, SIL, and three boys. The desk staff arranged for our rooms to be side-by-side. We checked in with a few clothes plus lunch and picnic dinner to be enjoyed on the Mall while we waited for the big show. The kitchenettes are well stocked -- just right for carry-in food prep as dining options near by were hard to access, especially holiday hours and three young boys in tow. (Out of town visitors would do well to check out and shop at the Whole Foods or Market at Columbia Plaza which are 3 to 5 blocks walking distance from the hotel). The rooms are very comfortable, especially the bedrooms and bathrooms which have been modernized and updated fairly recently. Everything is clean and functional. The furnishings in the living room of our suite had seen better days, but passed this fussy grandmother's cleanliness test. The staff on site are friendly and enormously helpful if difficult to reach in advance. Once we got near our check-in, I was able to get from the staff the kind of detailed information I wanted to ensure we'd be able to get a parking place, preferably a convenient one, for both of our vehicles. in the end, the doorman personally escorted our two drivers into the parking garage. We had a wonderful relaxing afternoon in our suite with our grand kids while their parents, both DMV natives, scoped out a spot for fireworks viewing. They found a fabulous and sparsely populated spot on the Mall with monuments framing the fireworks. After the show, we walked back to the hotel in about 15 minutes and crashed in our comfy beds. We really enjoyed every part of our stay. The State Plaza is an excellent value for the dollar and delivers quality accommodation and service. No accommodation in downtown DC is cheap or easy. State Plaza does a great job of delivering a big bang for the dollar. I gave the hotel a 4 rather than 5 rating to signal that this is not a luxury hotel like many other downtown properties. It is a great place to stay in a location that is hard to beat.

We booked this hotel for its location and price, compared to near-by hotels. It was one of the more affordable hotels in this general area (about 3 block walk to the west end of the National Mall). The hotel looks fairly new, the rooms do reflect that with very new-looking furniture and fixtures. The room is very spacious and the bathroom was even more so. The bathroom was very clean (it passed inspection from my very picky spouse). The bed, a King, was super comfortable and so were the pillows. Coffee maker is a Keurig. The issues are: (1) no mini-frig in the room, (2) parking: we had to park in a private residence parking garage, but to get in or out, you have to be escorted there by the doorman, (3) the lobby is small with no amenities, and the elevator does not go to the lobby. If you are disabled, there is one set of steps to get to/from the lobby, and (4) there is no driveway to the front door when you check in. Instead, you have to park in a no-parking zone, also used by taxis, at the front door. The hotel assures you that you can park there until after check-in, however.

Great hotel, the staff was so pleasant and very helpful with tips and directions, the room was nice and clean. The hotel only a short walk to the metro station, and several great restaurants. This was a really great place to stay

Great stay - a comfy bed with lots of fluffy pillows and a view, too. Best of all, the room had a HUGE bathtub! Amazing - it was perfect to soak in after a day walking around DC. Great desk staff too! Great location to walk to Mall & Lincoln Memorial and such.

This is a very good choice of hotel if you're visiting on business or here on vacation. It's within easy walking distance of all the monuments and museums, as well as the major federal government buildings and George Washington University. There also are transit stops nearby. The hotel itself is in a quiet neighborhood, is comfortably furnished, and has a friendly staff. Room rates are very reasonable for downtown DC. Note for disabled visitors: Because of the age of the building, access from the lobby to the elevator and guest rooms requires either going up several stairs or going outside and back in through another door.

I enjoyed a clean and comfortable room on an overnight business trip. Staff were very courteous and helpful, and my suite included helpful amenities. It was close to CVS and Starbucks. Easy walking distance to attractions, including the double-decker bus routes - a great way to sight-see on quick trips.

This hotel is very well situated, the rooms are large and comfortable, there is a kitchen area, the bathroom is a good size, there is a dressing side area and so it has the potential to be a very good hotel, especially for the price. What it knocks it down and for which I wouldn't stay there again is the lack of a little more attention to small but important things: the coffee machines (cuisinart) date from pre-historical times and are completely broken and useless; the cupboards get stuck, the TV control doesn't work, the wifi is of the level of a few decades back, doesn't work, the people are at the receptions on both sides are friendly but I had to carry my own luggage to the taxi and couldn't change the coffee machine or fix any of the other issues... I had one breakfast and was almost alone in the restaurant area and still they got my order wrong ! And the parking is overpriced... Also, they wouldn't do room service, so I had to go buy my own food in the next door CVS one evening... To get from one building to the other you also have to go through the lower level parking ! So, if they don't ramp up their act, I'm not going back.

Just returned from a two night mom/daughter weekend stay. The hotel is conveniently located in a nice quiet area but close to the mall. The rooms are spacious and clean and the beds are comfortable. The staff was helpful and the price just right. So glad we stumbled upon State Plaza in our search!

Very convenient location, a few blocks from the metro, a few blocks from the Mall. In anticipation of a slightly longer stay, I wanted a place with a kitchen, and State Plaza delivered. Separate kitchen with a full fridge, microwave, stovetop (no oven), sink, all the required dishes/pots/pans. Small dining table in the kitchen as well. Room was normal, not super modernized, but large enough and had everything needed. Free wi-fi, all the usual cable channels. The picture on the tv was not amazing, but it didn't bother me. TV was also modern enough to have an HDMI port for me to attach my amazon firestick. The hotel is actually two buildings, with the gym in the one farthest away from E street. Gym was small, but had sufficient cardio equipment/etc for an average person. There is a cafe in that building as well, but I did not try it. Had a business center with two computers and a printer in the front building (the one with checkin). Only small quibble is that there is no self-service laundry. You can have the hotel do it for you, for the usual expense, but for a more extended stay it is preferable to be able to do your own. In this part of DC there aren't any nearby coin laundromats.

This boutique hotel is well located - near the Mall, Smithsonian museums, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, etc. Easy walk to Georgetown, restaurants, shopping (if interested). The hotel has been recently renovated and most rooms have a small, well stocked (stove, microwave, full size refridgerator, pots/pans, utensils) kitchenette - a definite bonus! The staff were all personable, friendly, and helpful.
