Arrival: Quick, Courteous, no concerns. Room: Clean, Interesting, Well Put Together for Historical Significance. The bath water refused to get hot, and I'm not picky, but it was barely warm. Service: This is where it gets interesting. I booked the "Scandelous Experience", which comes with a bottle of wine, popcorn, and a few episodes from the show Scandal. When I called to inquire about the wine, I was abruptly told there was no wine with my package. When I referenced the website directly, I was told that the deal was pre-covid. Now, this rate was $70 more than the base rate, so while I didn't argue the point, I considered making sure I got the rate reduced on my departure. Then, 10 minutes later, a manager arrived with a bottle of wine for which I was grateful. When we ordered room service dessert, we were quickly told no room service during covid. I called back to speak with a manager, and I was not allowed to speak with the floor manager, was told to deal with it as its a covid rule that I need to go down to the restaurant to physically order dessert. I'm uncertain as to how it's possible that physcially going downstairs to order something is more dangerous than dessert being left at my door, but, those are the rules. My issue is definitely with the way it was presented, the righteous tone that was used, and the ridiculousness of the rule to begin with. Not to mention they brought ice to the room twice with no mask on. Amenities: Pool was the only thing open, EVERYTHING else was closed, and only 3 people could go in at a time (there were 10 when we went, so didn't go in). Departure: Smooth, other than being charged 32.47 for a "movie" that was never ordered. Best Part....Price: $1600, for a basic queen sized room (called a suite because it's the one they staked out in to nail Nixon), with no amenities, no dine in, no room service, no hot water, and rude staff....kind of unreal.…
My boyfriend and I stayed New Year's Eve in favor of a quiet but special evening to end 2020. The room was beautiful and the service was excellent. We were well taken care of by the front desk, and despite my fear staying in a hotel during covid, I felt they did a perfect job of maintaining CDC guidelines while still keeping to a high standard of service. They also have a heated pool that they max out to 3 people at a time so we were able to get some pool time in the evening. They also have private igloos which we didn't take part in, but they're definitely the nicest igloos I've seen in DC during the pandemic. Overall we had a wonderful time and I'm happy to see a hotel still in full swing during this time.
We enjoyed our first visit to the iconic Watergate Hotel! While it does show some signs of needing some updating here and there, the hotel is sparkling clean and the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. We had a very pleasant, quiet night with a lovely river view. Everything we might have wanted was in the room--even large umbrellas for strolling through Georgetown had there been inclement weather. We also took advantage of the igloo in the Next Whiskey Bar which was such a treat, so warm and cozy and festive. The food was good but it all came to us cold which was disappointing.
I have enjoyed staying here in previous years (usually 4 to 5 stars) so please note the two stars of "poor" reflects the lack of follow-through and contact from The Watergate Hotel In mid-March The Watergate Hotel promised a covid-19 refund for an early March reservation. I have called many times and left messages to no avail. Yesterday I spoke with a sympathetic ear at the front desk who _promised_ I would receive a call by the end of the day - nothing! Any help or suggestions would be appreciated as I see here on TripAdvisor that other have received refunds from The Watergate. Merci and thank you!
Just needed a change of scenery and decided to give The Watergate a try. I've driven by numerous times and never thought of staying until I saw other reviews calling it a quiet spot in the city. And that's exactly what it was. The location is close to everything but still off the beat and path. Check-in was quick and staff were polite and helpful. The hotel was clean and safety precautions were in place. I selected a river review with a balcony and thankfully the weather was unseasonably warm so I could enjoy it. Was extremely thankful for the mini in-room refrigerator. I also was able to take advantage of the indoor pool which I had to myself. The only drawback is the walls are thin so you can hear the murmur of music and conversations in the next door rooms. But this definitely wasn't a deal breaker and I will stay again. …
