For my first trip to America, as well as my first solo trip ever, I wanted somewhere that was super close to the attractions I wanted to visit, as well as somewhere safe and secure, and I definitely think I made the right choice with this hotel. It's located less than five minutes on foot from the National Mall and the Smithsonian museums, but at the same time is located just off the beaten track enough that it doesn't feel crowded and busy. The rate I booked included breakfast as standard - while breakfast is very busy due to it finishing quite early in the morning - 9 am on weekdays, but this is increased to 10 am on weekends, it was frequently restocked, so I could get what I wanted without it running out. However, not all room rates have breakfast included, so make sure to check that your rate has this if it's something you want. For outside the hotel, the food options in DC are excellent, whether you're looking for fast food or a more substantial meal - just a few minutes up the road is a McDonald's, for example. The hotel is very secure - you receive a keycard on booking, which is used to operate the elevators, open doors to stairwells, as well as open and lock the door to your room. Federal Center SW, the area where this hotel is situated, is also very safe, and owing to its proximity to the government buildings is frequently patrolled by several law enforcement agencies - during my time here, I saw the MPD, Protective Services Division, FBI and(!) the Secret Service's Uniformed Division out and about! I never felt at any risk during my time here. Pretty cool, if you ask me :) Now, on to the room itself. I booked a King Room on a high floor, and got my room right at the very top of the hotel, on the 12th floor. Housekeeping came to my room almost every day during my fortnight in DC, even when I was out exploring the city, which meant I'd always come 'home' to a very comfortable remade king size bed. The bathroom has a very large shower, with very good water pressure and temperature control. There's also a large television in the room with DirecTV and a nice selection of channels, which is perfect for relaxing when you come home after a day of walking around the National Mall. Despite my room overlooking the interstate, being situated directly above a fire station at ground level, and having a train station very close by, this wasn't very intrusive at all - I was able to sleep soundly every night. I have to dock a point from this review due to the Wi-Fi, or somewhat lack thereof - while the hotel offers free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, which was a nice touch, in practice it was extremely unstable and often non-existent in areas of the building above the first three floors. This should be an easy fix with the purchase and installation of some range boosters, or even by adding more hotspots to each floor. In conclusion, I really enjoyed my time at this hotel, and considering just how convenient it is with regards to location, as well as the comfort of the room itself, I reckon that I will be returning here again when the next time I visit DC comes around - it's a 4/5 from me!…
