NOTE: Trip Advisor doesn't allow me to enter before December 2020. This is actually for October 2-8, 2019. My family traveled back to Washington, DC after moving a few years before for a visit. Initially, we planned to stay at a competitor down the street by Soho coffee, but on arrival, we discovered evidence of bedbugs on the mattress. In a panic, we contacted The Avery and Sansy was overwhelmingly helpful. They had a room available and instead of jacking us with the rack rate, they gave us one of the suites at a very reasonable rate. Overall, everyone on staff was overwhelmingly helpful and kind. From Sansy being so helpful to a couple and their small child, worn out from 12 hrs of travel and trying to recover from a hotel disaster at 8pm, to the rest of the staff and owner going out of their way to be helpful. Best service ever, full stop. Moreover, the location is ideal. You are close enough to walk to Georgetown and Dupont Circle with its key Red Line Metro, but far enough to be in a quiet neighborhood location. There is a small 24/7 shop across the street, a great coffee shop next door, and one of DC's local legend "Stachowski's Market" for takeaway sandwiches. If you have kids, Rose Park with its huge playground is a block away. We'll be back every few years to DC to visit folks, and we'll be staying here every time.

Small quaint hotel. Refurbished modern feel.Good location in Georgetown. Walking distance to the center of Georgetown. Continental breakfast in the front, very small area. If something more substantial is desired, there are restaurants in the area that serve a full breakfast.

Simple. low-keyed excellence, calm atmosphere. Easy, direct entrance and exit from room and hotel. The area is a walker's dream, with parks and fascinating row houses and elegant single homes everywhere. Cars not needed to see the remarkable sights. Food available everywhere, with excellent offerings in small restaurants. Due to the pandemic, everything is organized to provide easy take-out as well as outdoor dining.

My husband and I took our first mini vacation in over a year (fully vaccinated = some freedom finally!) to celebrate his birthday in the ultimate in charming DC neighborhoods: Georgetown. I randomly stumbled upon the Avery in my search for a cute spot to stay, and I am SO glad I did!!! The attention to detail, care taken of us, and total charm of the Avery made our stay absolutely perfect. I booked a “patio” room. I was blown away by what I had actually booked. A sweet, romantic room, complete with French doors opening out to its own private back yard, with a mature Cherry tree in FULL BLOOM, performing beautifully for us; raining its gorgeous petals down on our heads with every breeze. Built-in confetti for my husband’s very special birthday!!! We decided to stay close to “home” for our entire stay, as our location was perfection. Shopping, dining, and just happily wandering the stunning neighborhood streets was all we needed. We will be back again and again, and we will stay at the Avery!!! Whether it be a romantic getaway sans daughters, or a shopping/Smithsonian trip with them, the Avery will be our hone away from home.

Nearly two decades ago now, I used to live in Washington DC and Georgetown is a favorite neighborhood. If I'm not in the area visiting to attend an event somewhere else in the City, Georgetown is where I like to stay despite not having a nearby Metro stop. Pre-pandemic I'd never drive in DC and prefer utilizing public mass transit or walking. Note: There is the DC Circulator shuttle that has a route that serves Georgetown and is currently free to use. But we lucked out with the BEST Spring weather to walk and electric scooter around. What a bonus to support a small business hotel during the pandemic. For the loyalty reward points, I'd usually stay at the Rosewood but I am thrilled with our stay at The Avery Georgetown boutique hotel. I felt like I lived in the neighborhood again. The hotel is located on a currently quiet residential street with a convenience store across from it and nestled among beautiful restored historic homes. There is a very cute butcher market (Stachowski's) nearby as well for lunchtime sandwiches. And it's only a short walk to the hustle and bustle of both M Street and Wisconsin Ave (the main streets of Georgetown). Another reason I chose this hotel is because it is only 1-mile (5-minute drive/20-minute walk) to a Tesla Supercharging station and free Volta charging station (located in the free parking garage of a Safeway Supermarket). Parking in DC generally is not easy, there is metered parking outside the hotel, and surrounded by residential parking only. Currently, the hotel cafe is closed due to the pandemic but we were offered free drinks in our room's mini fridge and tea/coffee across the street at the convenience store. The front door is looked 24/7 and the lobby is unattended, but despite us arriving about an hour later than our initial ETA, mask-wearing owner, Justin welcomed us at our car and took our bags directly to our room. We stayed in Room 9 which is up some stairs and in the back facing the backyards. The room sleeps 4 with the pullout sofa but for two of us, it was nice and spacious! With a large separate bathtub in the bathroom. I'm not sure how many other guests were also there but we never heard anyone from our room. We did hear the airplanes but otherwise a nice peaceful environment. The Avery Georgetown is a one-of-a-kind accommodation in Washington, DC and I'm so grateful to have stayed like a local at this gem in Georgetown.
