Detailed Reviews
I have been staying in Jardim Do Vau on and off with my family of all ages for the last 18 years and absolutely love the place. We finally got back there this year again and it was the best holiday we have ever had. Everyone is treated with the utmost respect and the Staff are just brilliant. We deal with the lovely "Elsa " at reception a lot and nothing is a problem for her. She has a solution for all our requests. She books and recommends fantastic restaurants and goes above and beyond with every request to make our stay as happy and enjoyable as possible. Bia, Martha , Nuno and the lovely Zena are the best ever as well. We had a few small Medical Emergencies over our time there and they ordered taxis and arranged our visit to the Hospital without any panic and with a sense of calm. The cleaning staff clean the place to perfection and the Hotel are very covid conscious . The minute anyone leaves their lounger by the pool (which are also well social distanced) it is sanitised to perfection.
The local shop on site in the hotel is also very well run with very friendly staff and have all the basic requirements for any holiday visit with good prices.
Everyone is given pool towels which can we exchanged daily if required for fresh ones. The pool is also spotless.
The location is the best ever. a few steps off the Beach. There are also a good few very good restaurants within a few metres from the pool .
The apartments are very spacious especially the 2 bed with huge balcones , mostly all have seaviews.
All in all just wonderful .

We were scheduled to spend a week at this lovely resort, but due to a storm and delayed flights, we only got 3 days there. We were so disappointed because 3 days was enough for us to fall in love with this place. The location was practically on the beach, and the resort had everything. Our ground floor unit was a nice 1 bedroom with a nice kitchen and living room and wonderful patio. We looked out onto the pool area and could see the water in the distance. There is a nice restaurant, a small grocery store with very reasonable prices. They have an indoor and outdoor pool and even a very reasonably priced laundry service. When we checked in late and got to our room we were very pleased to find a bottle of water, some eggs and milk in the fridge awaiting us. Very nice and much appreciated. The resort itself was very quiet and it was a short walk to some restaurants in Praia do Vau or another 20 minutes walk would get you into many restaurants and bars in Praia da Rocha. We had a rental car to enjoy some of the farther areas, but next time we wouldn’t bother as there was everything we needed right in the vicinity. There is also a shuttle service at the resort that offers trips to different locations throughout the week. We went for long walks along the cliffs and enjoyed the peace and quiet. There was maid service daily and the place was very clean. We definitely want to return to this place next year so we can get a full week, or maybe more.

Praia do Vau Beach is smaller and more family like than the larger Praia da Rocha (beach), which is a 20 minute walk east. Both beaches have plenty of restaurants and bars. Be wary of the tide times if you want long walks along the beaches.
The Hotel staff were pleasant and attentive. There's a mini mart to get basic needs, including alcohol and plenty more smaller markets in walking distance. Laundry was $5 EU and they were kind enough to accommodate us as our wash conflicted with a planned trip.
The pool restaurant and main restaurant are open at separate times so at one point neither are open. It's a little more pricey at these restaurants than the others nearby for any meals.
The rooms are marble like tile everywhere and ours had 2 single beds, almost like cots, separate and low to the floor. However I found them firm and comfortable enough. There was also a small fridge, microwave and stove but no oven.
The Hotel is in 2 sections. One nearer to the pool and beach than ours but ours seemed quieter.
Stay here and party in da Rcha was our theme.

I am writing this review at the end of our 7 nights stay.
What is good: friendly and helpful staff speaking English, the hotel is close to the beach, beach towels that you rent €10 each and you can exchange for the clean one as often as you want, clean towels and toilet rolls supplied in the apartment, three pools, two good for children, playground for children, basic equipment in the kitchen, close to supermarkets and good restaurants, the hotels adapted to covid-19, requests guests to wear masks and hand gel is available.
What is not good: dirty plates at breakfast, flies on the food, food on the floor, low quality food at breakfast- e.g artificial juices, small selection of food for breakfast, the hot food is cold, people smoking at the tables during breakfast, cleaners not cleaning apartments properly - e.g for some reason they never wipe the table or kitchen sides, they don't swipe balcony floor, no life guard at the pool, pots and pans too small to cook for the family, no bottled water, tea bags or instant coffee in the room, even for the start.
Overall, you get what you pay for.
I don't understand the 5 star reviews nor the certificate of excellence.
I would not stay here again.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review and for highlighting on your first paragraph only some of the reasons as to our 5 star reviews resulting in the recently received accolade ‘Best of the Best’. We note that you mention “hotel” in your title and would like to inform you that Jardim do Vau is in fact a Holiday Resort with self-catering apartments. We do supply starter packs with bottled water, tea bags, coffee and other items but only on request, which was not your case. Regarding the breakfast, these meals are usually served in our main indoor Restaurant but due to the COVID-19 situation and following the “National Health Board” safety and health recommendations in Europe, we have transferred these service to the outdoor Pool Bar, which we believe best serves the interests of our guests. As you may appreciate, being in an outdoor area has its advantages such as enjoying the wonderful scenery and tranquillity but being in nature also means that you are not alone and you might be inopportuned by its smallest inhabitants, such as insects. Regarding our smoking policy, we would like to inform you that smoking is permitted in outdoor areas. Notwithstanding, had you informed us at the time that you were being disturbed we could have suggested that you try our Room Service instead, which would have given you the opportunity of enjoying your breakfast on your balcony overlooking the ocean. We trust that you noticed the various signage on the pool deck displaying the rules and safety measures and which also included the information that there are no life guards on duty. With regard to the daily cleaning of the apartments we would also like to inform you that our cleaning staff is not permitted to touch or remove any of our client’s belongings and more so now in light of the present circumstances. We do understand that holidaying with three children is challenging and appreciate that the logistics of 5 people in a one bedroom apartment with a kitchenette (which is actually intended for 2/3 persons) must be difficult but it also makes it hard for our cleaners to work countertops and tables when these have not been freed for cleaning. Being in a one bedroom apartment also means that you would require more pots and pans and had you mentioned this to our front desk at the time we would have been most happy to have provided you with whatever you required. We believe that you would have been far more comfortable in a spacious two bedroom apartment, which is equipped for 6 people. Unfortunately, any complaint received after your departure leaves us with very little alternatives and also does not give us the opportunity to work towards the enjoyment of our guests whilst they are still on holiday. At the end of the day, we are pleased to know that you got exactly what you paid for. All the best, Jardim do Vau

We came originally in 2018 and really liked the location and apartment, so we wanted to return to PDR so didn’t worry about finding another hotel because this is reasonably priced and we knew it.
We came for a week and were again not disappointed, it was all as before. Good pool area with not too many of the towel brigade and we could always get a bed.
The apartment has a separate bedroom, seating area, kitchenette and table which is very spacious. There is never noise coming from adjacent rooms, although the road is noisy it doesn’t disturb whilst trying to sleep as you become accustomed to it.
The location is great as it is a lovely walk into PDR which we did approximately 3x in and out each day. If the tide is out you can walk along the beach to the castle and Marina and also the other way although by road to Alvor.
We would not hesitate to return again in the future.

We stayed here from the 11th April having requesting to move from the hotel we had originally booked.
Karen the jet2 resort rep went out of her way to get us moved within 24 hrs and she did just that. So pleased she chose this hotel, from the moment we walked in the staff were attentive, explaining abt the hotel and the area. Even gave us a safe key for the inconvenience and cost we had suffered over the last 24hrs.
They allocated us a 2bedroom apartment with a side sea view large patio area. We also had an ensuite bathroom off the main bedroom. Separate bathroom which my 2 boys used, separate kitchen area and spacious longe area. My inlaws got a 1 bedroom apartment which was also very spacious.
All staff did an excellent job and were always pleasant and always said morning or hello depending on the time of day.
The restaurant was lovely with a choice of salad, fish meat or pasta dishes every evening. Breakfast was yr usual cereal, toast , or bacon and eggs. Pedro made sure everything was topped up and always had a joke or.story to tell you. Keeping everyone happy during their stay.
The pool area was kept clean and tidy and more sunlounger were been added each day as the temperature improved over the week of our stay. The only downside was you had to purchase a swim hat at 4euro per person for the inside pool. So remember to take yr own.
Lovely beaches and a pleasant slight uphill walk into praia de rocha. Takes abut 15-20mins to walk.
With some lovely breath taking views along the way and lovely restaurants, snack bars to sit and enjoy the view or sunset depending on the time of day.
All I have left to say is don't dismiss this hotel with it not being all inclusive, it is a lovely hotel and we would definitely return again. Thank you to all the staff for making our holiday a happy experience.

Spent a week there in April. Place was very clean and cleaning staff were really super at their job. The receptionist was spotless and those at reception were very helpful. Pool area was clean, could do with a few more umbrellas as we had young children and had no umbrellas so had to leave early as the Sun got very warm. Pedro was a gentleman and was very helpful throughout our stay. We had breakfast a few mornings in the hotel. Their was a young waitress who was not very nice. Breakfast was from 8am to 10am and on the 3rd morning they started clearing everything at 9.55am by 10am everything was gone and coffee machine turned off. We had a 2½ year old and a 4 year old we arrived at 9.40 and didn't even have time to finish our breakfast but we were charged €10 per adult and €5 for the 2 children. Didnt get value at all that morning. Didn't go back down again. Beware everything is cleared by 10am. So breakfast 8 to 10 is a bit misleading. We had dinner 2 evenings in the hotel. First evening we had A la cart and last night we had a buffet. Both evenings food was very nice and good value for money. Would recommend there for food but that waitress would need to be trained on how to treat people. There was 7 in our party and had taxi booked both ways they were brilliant. A taxi to Praia de Roche was around €6 to €8.

We booked in January to go to Praia do Vau for our anniversary in May but the pandemic put paid to that ! We rebooked and up to a week before thought we wouldn’t be allowed to go then the government ok’d it and off we went . We have stayed in the area before but it was our first visit to Jardim do vau , hopefully it won’t be our last . We had a lovely apartment with 2 bedrooms and 2bathrooms and a lovely sea view. It was very roomy and the kitchenette was separated from the lounge , with a hatch through. We had all the usual utensils, a kettle , pans , toaster and coffee filter machine . The lounge area had a good tv which I don’t usually bother with on holiday but it had a good selection of English channels. The WiFi was ok in the rooms and on the balcony . The balcony was big with 2 full size loungers , a side table and a bigger table with 6 chairs . There was a dining table by the kitchen too. The whole place was spotless , there was always room by the pool and easy access to the beach . There is a mini market on site and a few other shops nearby for groceries . Staff were always friendly. Nothing bad to say about this place.

Hotel frozen in time. That's right, if what you want is a hotel from the 90s, you have an excellent hotel here. If, on the contrary, you want a modern hotel, then forget it!
Hotel WITHOUT air conditioning!! But it has fans :)
Antique furniture. Poor wifi quality. Only 1 TV in the living room, and small (there is no TV in the bedroom).
Pool towels are provided, but you must provide a deposit when ordering them...
Price does not suit the conditions offered.
Positive point: distance to the beach.

Very comfortable, clean, apartments in a great location overlooking the beach. We were upgraded to a two bedroom apt. with a very large balcony and seaview. Our unit had A/C but we didn't need it. The kitchen was well equipped, and had a full sized fridge. We shopped in the mini market and loved the hot rolls and baked goods. Prices were reasonable.
We loved the pool area, umbrellas giving shade if wanted. The pool bar/eating area served the best French fries we found in the area.
All staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The receptionists provided information on bus routes, booked a day trip for us and were instrumental in getting us a rush taxi when our scheduled "airport transfer" did not arrive. (Thanks to Elsa, Marta and Sina for all your help).
We liked the proximity to Portimao, Alvor and Praia de Roches, easily reached by local buses.
Yes we would definitely come again.
