We have just spent an extraordinary weekend with Friends at the Château de Palaja. Catherine and her husband are great hosts where the well-being and satisfaction of their customers remains their priority😘
The rooms are all different and decorated with great taste...the bedding is very comfortable and the linen pleasant.
Everything is very clean...
Catherine prepares cheese/charcuterie boards accompanied by good wines to share in the park👍
You can also swim, do fitness and a sauna.
You also have the restaurant “S comme” adjoining the hotel which is excellent and no need to take the car 😉
And I forgot to finish, the champagne is very good 😂😂
Thank you 2 of us 6!!!

This small 4-star hotel located in a green countryside is a great discovery. It is a haven of peace where you can hear the birds singing when you are comfortably seated in a deck chair in the fragrant garden with its superb rose bushes.
The house is sober and elegant in length, you have to go through the living room to leaf through one of the comics in the owner's collection.
The room is very spacious, the bed a little marvel, a beautiful bathroom with separate toilets. The decoration is current without being flashy, modern but also practical for the traveler. Our beautiful room with a view of the park also had a beautiful abstract but colorful and warm contemporary work on one of the walls.
The breakfast and we should say the “big” breakfast is absolutely perfect. Nothing is missing and the cold meats and cheeses from the region are a delight. Enough to gain strength to visit the region and follow the wise advice of Catherine, the hostess.
A character Catherine, in love with her house and her region. She will tell you lots of anecdotes about the work on the castle and she will tell you where to go for a walk.
Passionate and exciting, she and her husband Eric give a real soul to this place.
Don't forget the beautiful steel sculptures in the garden and the magical cedar 🧙‍♂️…. Yes yes…. There is a magical cedar tree that you must go and caress in the park before regretfully leaving this beautiful house. Only one desire, quickly return to Palaja Castle for a short weekend.

Very nice hotel, lots of charm, nicely decorated, not too large (12 rooms), which allows a warm welcome and real exchanges with the hoteliers.
Very pretty rooms, large and bright, with excellent bedding, everything has been thought of, even the flat sheet under the duvet, very pleasant when it's too hot!
Really close to the citadel, which doesn’t spoil anything!

Given the wonderful reviews of this hotel, I had expectations for the place. Reality proved me wrong. For 132 Euros a night, we had a very small room at the top of the house with a tiny bathroom and this bed pushed near the wall made me rather claustrophobic. No desk and one rickety chair we shared.
With COVID, the owner explained to us that the room would not be cleaned for the duration of our stay (3 nights) and that we would have to request clean towels. That was not a good surprise.
I was very underwhelmed on the whole and I will let you judge with my pics.
Two positives: nice location near Carcassonne and lovely breakfast.

Very average room. The bedding is very soft and hello to back pain. The mini bar offers you a few drinks in the room including a 50 cl bottle of crystal water for €2. (generally free in all hotels). Parking is free and quite extensive.
The restaurant nearby (a few meters is very good and at a very reasonable budget).
To see if the guest room atmosphere suits you. This is not at all our case. We will not return there.

Palaja Castle is a sure value, a place to come back for several reasons: the warm welcome of the owners always available and good advice, well decorated rooms with quality bedding. This large building near Carcassonne is surrounded by gardens and the whole is perfectly maintained. 4 stars well deserved. Sale of carefully selected local products. Very good address. We love it.

Small 4-star hotel managed by a very charming couple in the bed and breakfast spirit, a rare pearl!
A stamp of authenticity in a green setting less than 10 minutes from the medieval city.
Spacious room with all the required comfort
Very good breakfast and very good plates of tapas to enjoy in the magnificent garden

Near the great walled fortress of Carcassonne, nestled in the small community of Palaja, this hotel surprised us with its friendly owners, comfortable accommodations and lovely setting. It deserves its four stars. Breakfasts (included) were always fresh and delicious. A separately run restaurant in right next door and not to be missed.

A truly lovely hotel and beautiful surroundings. Catherine and her team were wonderful and extremely helpful. We received great suggestions of activities/restaurants around the area, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast delicious. Although the weather was not good, we still managed to relax for a smidgen of sunshine by the pool. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Near the City, a haven of peace in a setting of well-kept vegetation. It’s a very beautiful place: beautiful, authentic, very clean, breakfast to die for!
The bosses are quite simply fully invested in everyone’s satisfaction. I will come back there with friends to go for walks in the surrounding area.
Beautiful address! Thanks to Cathy and Eric.

I confirm the previous replies - the Chateau is a great hotel choice, Catherine is a most friendly and helpful host, (as are the rest of the staff) and parking around the Cité is plentiful but in great demand, though inevitably a bit easier in the evening when many day trippers have gone. My tip: If you are looking for something different for lunch away from the main tourist honey pots I recommend La Rive Belle at L'Ecluse d'Hermanis. Hermanis is a small village 2-3 km out of town on the D38 the Route de Bram which runs along the north side of the airport runway. Follow the signs 1km or so down to the Canal du Midi (L'Ecluse = "lock") and you will find a simple, unfussy restaurant where you can sit out and people watch the canal activity, both in the water and along the towpath. Not at all pretentious, a shortish menu and wine list. Just different on a nice sunny day.
