Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

We used the hotel when attending the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My only gripe was that the bar and restaurant situated within the hotel was closed on the Sunday night as we wanted a quick drink and meal after a long day at the Albert Park Race Track.

The Heritage King Suites are scattered throughout the Heritage Building and some overlook leafy Queen Street whereas the others are laneway facing. You can request a street facing suite however we cannot guarantee this will be possible. If the outlook of the room is an important factor to you then we would recommend that you book a Loft Apartment or Balcony Suite to guarantee a street view.

For the breakfast that is included in the booking, how good is it in terms of quantity or quality?
Hi Jason, The breakfast comprises a moderate sized buffet which offers hot items such as freshly made scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, baked beans and tomatoes. There is also Carmens bircher museli, freshly chopped fruit salad, fresh whole fruit, yoghurt, some 8 different cereals, 4 varieties of toast, pancakes, pastries, muffins and Franke coffee machines that deliver the highest quality coffee of any automatic machine. Generally this is far more than expected when included in the rate for direct bookings. It also represents excellent value at $18 for those who book through other sources. Hopefully you can now decide whether this type of breakfast is appropriate to your tastes.
