we stayed at the Riverview Hotel, which is located in Hamilton, Brisbane but I believe there is also a Riverview motel in the same area so perhaps this is why you are confused.

Unsure because it's further away from the city centre. You may be able to see the fire works from the sky but may need accom closer to Southbank eg Mantra or Rydges Southbank or North Quay for full action eg Oaks Casino... More

Yes, quite far. And taxis are expensive in Brisbane. But it is really doable if you have other reasons to stay in the Hamilton area.
