Stayed for 1 night after a dinner and show close by. We've stayed in various Sofitel hotels/resorts over the years and know what to expect of the luxury Accor brand. Service, room quality, decor were up to expectations, however breakfast was below the standards I've experienced from the brand. Yes it was buffet breakfast however the quality was fairly average. I ordered eggs Benedict with salmon and it looked like it was prepared in a rush with everything just thrown together with little care. The bread was soggy and cold; and the supposedly poached egg was hard boiled. I don't mean to be picky but I've come to expect much better quality from Sofitel. There was also a long queue for breakfast which again was unexpected from the brand. These were the only let down to an otherwise beautiful hotel.

The staff mbr who checked us in at reception was unfriendly, unhelpful and to be honest, quite snobby. I had been up since the crack of dawn, worked a long, busy shift in the emergency dept, went back home, up to the Blue mtns to get on a train to meet my eldest son to then travel into the city to watch my youngest perform at the Opera House. I was exhausted and I am sure looked a lot less a person than your usual clientele when they check in. She looked up and only asked "Checking in?" and then only said "Credit card and ID please". I am used to my card being used as a guarantee on check in and often charged on check out. She had said nothing else. I mindlessly entered my pin when she placed the eftpos machine infront of me. I only then realised afterwards that she was taking full payment then as she never said anything. She never confirmed the rate or advised she was seeking full payment. I had planned to use stay vouchers and at no point has she given an opportunity to present them. She thankfully voided that transaction and took my vouchers. I explained that I was beyond tired and I hadn't expected it, when she she abruptly told me you always charge coin check-in. This I do not mind at all and had no issue with, except it was never stated to me. I then misheard when she requoted as she had quite a thick French accent and when I asked for clarification, she seemed more than frustrated by me. Our beds were great and extremely comfortable. The Balmain amenities were really nice and didn't feel cheap and horrible. the lighting options in the room were also good. You could keep it dim or light everything up when you were looking for stuff in your bag etc. The location was also excellent. Just a few minutes walk from Martin place which easily connects to Central. Also about a 10min brisk walk down to Circular Quay. We were headed for the Opera house and so was an ideal location. Room service was in a reasonable time, but was overly expensive for cheesecake which did not even taste like cheesecake and the service fee was high. $40 for two scoops of ice cream and a slice of "cheesecake". The connection for wifi devices did not work and we were too exhausted later that night to call anyone. On check out, once again the attendant was not friendly and didn't even crack a smile. There was almost no communication whilst I stood there with her silence for several minutes, not knowing what she was doing. I later found that that another payment had been taken, the whole amount of my stay (the cost prior to stay vouchers). I tried to call the hotel. I waited on hold for 12minutes to be able to speak to anyone and as soon as I explained my problem, the call dropped out. It seems someone had realised and I later had that money refunded to me, but the whole experience with FOH staff did not leave a favourable feeling about the hotel. I appreciate everyone has had rough times. Everyone is doing their best. But even, in some of the most stressful working conditions and situations I continue work in, I still have to put on a smile and address my next patient or their family with kindness and positivity and a lack of judgement. After a long day at work, followed by a rushed and rare trip into the city, it would have been nice to receive the same. Even my teenage son who arrived still in his school uniform commented on thinking we were not welcome. I am not one to disregard a venue based on one experience, but I won't be rushing to stay at the Sofitel again when I am next in the city.

We stayed for 2 nights on a short mini break. The hotel location is very convenient being just a short 7 minute walk to Circular Quay, or 20 minutes to Darling Harbour. The hotel itself is good, if looking somewhat slightly tired and in need of an update. It appears the bathrooms may have been renovated recently. The overhead shower bath combo is small and the water pressure and temperature was poor. Breakfast was amazing with a large variety of food and beverage available. The staff at reception, concierge and breakfast were all friendly and helpful. There was a slight issue of annoyance when we returned to collect our room card the receptionist appeared to be unsure of the process, asked if I went by another name despite the fact she had my driver license in her hand. Collecting our room card took longer than actually checking in earlier. 4 out of 5 points for our experience at the bar, Soirée. Received 2 complimentary cocktail vouchers as part of our package. Very poor service, Totally ignored once seated on Friday whilst other tables being over-serviced, and while the service was better, the cocktails on Saturday were terrible. Overall I would recommend this hotel.

We enjoyed a one night stay. Beds were so comfy and majority of staff were lovely. I found prices of food and drinks within the hotel to be a bit high. Would recommend if looking for a high class hotel prepare to bring extra spending money.

This was a real Jekyll and Hyde stay. The good; Nice big room (suite) and great value Told at check in that upgrade was complimentary Lounge is good, with good choices for afternoon tea and evening drinks and canapes Breakfast day 2 was great with excellent service and great fresh choices. Friendly waitress at Soiree Lounge The poor; Cockroach found on cheese platter sent to room. Room and corridor smekt musty and stale Hair found in bathry (not ours!) Breakfast day 1 service was sooo slow and slack Rude host at Soiree Online check in says just go and collect key but it was useless and had to go through all usual processes I was charged fornthe "complementary" upgrade. Lounge furniture is in poor condition So overall, it was a pleasant stay but could be and should be so much better.

The foyer/front counter area is immaculate, very impressive as soon as you arrive. The room I was in was clean, a bit small, but lovely. The step-in bath/shower combo may be difficult for some, even with a handrail. There was no bathrobe and slippers, so I ordered them via the app-thingy. I feel this should be in each room, waiting for the occupant. Service was quick and lovely. The bathrobe however was in such a state of disrepair, see photos. There were holes in it, the back part was ripped. I didn’t bother asking for another one, however it was not a 5 star experience. Part of the joy of staying in a very nice hotel is the fluffy and luxurious bathrobe, and this was certainly not. It was disappointing. Also, probably very petty small thing, but that message on the TV welcoming you by name was missing – its always a nice touch. Breakfast on level 5 was frustrating. Mid-week, with a line-up back to the elevators of people at a conference waiting to have a quick breakfast – and the Sofitel staff showed no sense of urgency or alarm at keeping people waiting so long, despite there being plenty of empty tables and seats. Once we were finally seated we found both the scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon stations to be empty, with 3 people already waiting around with plates in hand for the top-ups to arrive. One lady waiting said drying to me “I told them..... I’m still waiting”. When the food finally did arrive the chicken sausages were so blonde and unappealing, they were not worth the wait. The barista coffee service was as slow as the seating, again, no urgency shown by staff, and the coffees we ordered when we were seated arrived, post-food, when we were ready to leave, nearly 30 minutes later. I don’t believe this was due to a lack of staff, there were lots of staff, they appeared honestly, to be fluffing around, slowllllly, doing very little. Positives – luxurious common areas, the conference food was excellent and plentiful, the Sofitel service (apart from the slow breakfast crew) was very good, the car parking experience was good. Some parts of this hotel require upgrade and improvement for it to be a proper 5 star experience.

We had a 2 night stay for our anniversary and stayed in a king deluxe room on the top floor. The room was clean and comfortable and good size for two adults. We also enjoyed access to the club lounge where we had unlimited free canapés and drinks at night as well as free afternoon tea. We had the buffet breakfast as well which was great. They can cook eggs to order which was nice. Location is perfect- short walk to Pitt St and to darling harbour. Short walk down to Circular Quay as well. Staff are friendly and helpful. Some reviews have stated this hotel needs a freshening up - it is an older hotel but we had no complaints about the cleanliness and the facilities. Would recommend staying here.

We stayed here for 3 nights in a Prestige Suite with access to Club Sofitel and had a great time! Given we arrived about 10pm, check-in was seamless and staff were lovely from the second we got our of the car. I don't think there was a time throughout the three days we were not greeted (and in French) when we walked in or out of the hotel. Big shot out to Vanessa in the Lobby who was super-helpful, making sure we checked out quickly and helping me locate the headphones I had forgotten in the room. The room was on the 16th floor on the corner and was a great size with three separate rooms: a living room, bathroom, and bedroom. We were also welcomed with a fruit basket and sparkling water which was nice. Although wouldn't mind two sparkling water's so we can each have one next time. TV's were located in both the living room and bedroom and the bathroom was huge with double sinks and a bath and shower. We also appreciated the great range of amenities provided. I've noticed that these are lacking recently in other 5-star hotels but Sofitel provided everything I could think of, including shampoo and conditioner from designer brand Balmain, and I very much appreciated the nail file. Our only tiny complaint is that the TV in the bedroom is a bit small and hard to see from the bed, on the positive side there was a big wardrobe and heaps of storage in the room. We had room service a few times and it was super easy! Most menu's are now on the TV which is quite annoying if you're trying to watch shows, but Sofitel's was on the phone by scanning a QR code in the room. We really loved the convenience of ordering off your phone. In addition you could also order any additional things you needed like toiletries. However, we wouldn't mind a bigger selection on the room service menu. A greater range of share plates and starters would be great as unless you want a huge meal it's limited. Club Sofitel was great too, but recommend getting there early for the evening drinks as at 5:50 we got the last table! They provided table service and served Piper champagne, as well as any spirits you wanted, and two cocktails - I recommend the Classic Wentworth one. Canapes were also nice although not extensive. It was just some sushi, mini pies, mini calzone, and a cheese selection. Only issue was the cheese wasn't re-filled for a really long time. There was also a selection of soft-drinks if you did not want alcohol. We also had the afternoon tea which was a great range of petit-fours which were all yum! The breakfast buffet definitely has some room for improvement. More condiments would be appreciated, only Vegemite and peanut butter were available and there was a very small bread selection and pastry selection. There were just 3 small baskets of pastries which seemed to run out quick, one day we couldn't even get a small croissant. Otherwise it just had the stock standard buffet selections of some cheese, cereal, yoghurt, eggs + bacon etc. You could order eggs anyway, and meals like waffles, crepes, pancakes, eggs Benedict etc. I can confirm the pancakes and crepes are delicious, but they are just served plain with a small jug of maple syrup. It would be nice if they implemented something small like adding berries or offering Nutella crepes to lift it a bit which is similar to other hotels I have stayed at. Overall, I would definitely come back!

As usual the excellent Sofitel service and signature smell was clearly apparent. Reception service was friendly and welcoming with accessible and helpful concierge services. The housekeeping was efficient (to order - via the app) and thorough. The lobby presents well and the large upper level balcony was being upgraded while we stayed. Having said that the corridors and rooms are definitely in need of refurbishment. I was surprised that our twin room had small single beds as opposed to king singles but the linen was excellent quality and the bed was super comfortable. The location is excellent for sightseeing as well as business travel.
