Hotel Realm is a very nice hotel with friendly service staff, the rooms are lovely and the location is very practical. Where the hotel falls short is on dining, the food options in the hotel and the nearby suggestions were very poor, luckily we found some decent options doing our own googling
We have been coming to the Hotel Realm for a few years and have their VIP rating. We always have a Realm Suite and stay 3 nights, loving the restaurant Buvette. However our Suite this time was definitely not even 4 star. I booked 1 month ahead and asked to have our previous suite. Our disappointment in Suite 320 which we were allocated on arrival, was such that my husband went down to Reception and asked to be moved. Nothing else available, all booked out. Reception staff were very pleasant checking our previous suite, 212, however this and our other previous suites were unavailable. The Receptionist offered us a complimentary breakfast, this was appreciated. The Suite downside: carpet was dirty, efforts made to dispel the stains did not work. The dining chair covering was coming undone. The couch needs recovering. The walls were bagged and sagging at the joins in both the sitting area and bedroom. The bedroom had approx 30 cms between the foot of the bed and the clothes cupboard. No chair but a black ceramic stool. It looked as though it had been reconfigured but not finished. Housekeeping kitchen: kettle flickering, one dinner plate, one b&b plate, no tspns, no teatowel, sponge, unpleasant odour in dishwasher. Bedside glass tabletops needed cleaning. Ipad dirty, one bathrobe. And the view was of the Press Club carpark. All this for booking one month in advance. The upside is the staff. They are and always have been outstanding, could not praise them highly enough. Buvette restaurant as always was fantastic, great food and impeccable service. Realm has been our go-to hotel in Canberra. Covid closure might have been a good time to take stock and redo those suites. …
Stayed upper penthouse which has lovely layout and bedding very comfortable. Let down from five stars is cheap toilet paper! Also coffee pod machine but no milk warmer. You have to order coffee separately on room breakfast so they add in the extra room service fees, just little things that get in the way of expectations that take away from the experience. Reported the leaking bathroom tap.
The upgraded room was very tired . We ate at Buvette for breakfast and found it empty and disappointing. My scrambled eggs were undercooked to the point of inedible. Both my husband and myself dislike the new Pepe Saya butter which just gives toast a slightly off taste . Then again we also dislike goat cheese which is hard to avoid these days. Staff were lovely.
A wonderful experience. Staff are exceptional and so helpful. From check in to restaurant to guest services..so slick and seamless in their everyday tasks. In today's COVID times it's so hard to get trained and dedicated staff who enjoy their jobs.. Hotel Realm seems to have all those who fit the bill at an international level. We loved our short stay. It was comfortable and generous and so pleasant we would book a visit...JUST to stay here again.
